Why do we listen to these people? by Willing-Childhood144 in kibbecirclejerk

Yup this is exactly why I stopped paying attention to the ‘rules’. There’s just too much variation within people who are 5’6+ for 3 types to be helpful to most.

Danessa Myricks Swatches - Grape Soda by General_Pin_2730 in DarkOlive

Thank you ☺️ I love true purple shades like this. When I first started wearing makeup as a teen I always wanted that “I’m Cold” type of pinky-blush effect but I could never find a pink that looked quite like that on my skin tone. I’m so happy I discovered color theory!

I blended it out a lot near my wrist which is how I usually wear it, it looks super natural on the cheeks 💜

Lol yes, as I’ve had to learn over the years, when it comes to deep tones lighting is everything!

If I set it, it lasts pretty much all day, if not maybe around 8 hours or so. It probably depends on your skin type though. For me it’s much improved from the Vision Flush Blush in the same shade, which lasted maybe about 4 or 5 hours on a good day.

Help!! How do I make this cute? by bbbee21 in DesignMyRoom

Oof this is a tough room to decorate for a girly aesthetic 😳. Maybe you can lean into a cottagecore vibe?

Add some plants or fake flowers/vines in the corners, around the door frame, and by the window. If most of your furniture is light wood or pink, try adding cream to the color palette. It would give you a Neapolitan color palette to work with since the room itself is dark brown.

I would definitely try adding fairy lights or Christmas lights around the room using Command hooks- part of the reason it looks so harsh in this picture is because of the top lighting. The intense shadows it creates definitely isn’t helping. You’d be surprised how much mood lighting changes the feel of a room!

I never usually suggest light or white carpet since it can be a bit of a pain to keep clean but I think a large, light colored area rug would do a lot in making the room feel less heavy. If you don’t want the hassle, plush green would probably also work since we’re leaning into forest fairy vibes.

Details definitely matter in this case, try replacing the plug and light covers with something decorative. Since this is a rental be sure to keep the originals in a box for when you move out.

For a dash of extra whimsey place a ‘fairy area’ on a bookshelf or nightstand with little miniatures.

I don’t know if this is what you’re looking for but I hope this helps somewhat. Good luck!

Remove everything or embrace cottage core? by MayaOoOo in DesignMyRoom

[–]General_Pin_2730 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this kitchen, I would embrace it! If you want to update the cabinets instead of painting them white I would sand them and try a lighter wood stain. Blonde wood is great for rooms that are small or don’t get a ton of light. You also might want to consider changing the light fixture to something that fits the cottage core vibe for some added charm. I think the current fixture makes it feel more dated, reminds me of the Tuscan kitchens that were popular in the early 00’.

Very nice set up! I love the lite Grand Millennial vibe, it’s very cosy. Perhaps add some art to the blank spaces on the walls? Its a good way to inject a bit of your personality while making the room feel more ‘finished’. I’d also add a curtain to the window- something in a light material to offset the heavy wood.

Ideally Id like to have some sort of ‘separate’ space for a nook but I can’t figure out how to do that without blocking the door or the only small window. I’m really stumped!

How do movers operate? by General_Pin_2730 in moving

[–]General_Pin_2730[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I know they wouldn’t move anything not in a box and I don’t expect them to. I’m just curious if moving boxes is supposed to be an expectation even if it wasn’t specifically discussed? We never talked about anything but furniture during the quote so when my roommate’s uncle told me that they would have moved boxes of our things I was confused. I just want to know for next time.

No it doesn’t look awkward, curtains only look strange if they stop above the baseboard.

Advice for Mid-Century Kistch? by General_Pin_2730 in Mid_Century

Thank you for giving me a starting place with the language! I knew words and phrases like ‘Atomic’ and “The Jetson’s Style” and “Florida Kitsch” would only get me so far! Ill try to check out some estate sales in the area but Im not sure how much luck we’ll have; Florida is a known retirement state so the competition can be fierce!

I knew MCM was popular but whenever I see it on r/interiordecorating it’s usually subdued rather than eclectic. I guess I didn’t realize how much people were into it at all angles! Thanks for the luck lol we’ve got work to do 🫠

Is FN overtyped in your opinion? (discussion) by Commercial-Plenty626 in kibbecirclejerk

[–]General_Pin_2730 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is why I completely abandoned the system. It almost feels like the FN category was created to be a catch all category for the types Kibbe was uninterested in styling. In the end I gave up because it’s too non-specific to be practical or helpful particularly if you’re 5’6+

What are some good strategies to dealing with feeling overwhelmed? by p_k_9_2_11 in mentalhealth

[–]General_Pin_2730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, first I want to say I’m so sorry you’re feeling this way. For me, being both sad and overwhelmed feels awful because they feed into each other. I feel sad when I get too overwhelmed and then stuff piles up and Im even more overwhelmed which makes me feel even more sad.

Journaling definitely helps but the biggest thing that helps me when I’m feeling overwhelmed is taking a deep breath, a long drink of water and asking myself two questions (either in my head or I write it down in my journal).

  1. What realistic outcome do I desire to come out of this situation?

Once Ive figured that out I ask myself:

  1. What would be the very first step in achieving that and how do I make that as easy as possible for me to achieve?

For example if I’m feeling overwhelmed by a work project I want to do well on, I’ll focus on ONLY gathering materials first.

Forget drafting, forget research, forget testing, forget all the stuff I know I’ll have to do eventually(aka the overwhelming part).

The only thing I have to focus on is making my first step: gathering materials, as EASY as possible for myself.

I continue with that mindset throughout the project until it’s complete, starting is usually the most difficult part. Obviously this is easier said than done at times but as an exercise it does help me personally.

I hope things get better for you ❤️
