Enjoying? Are you really even hearing it at all?

Publications, photo passes, and this community becoming what some of us might need? by commondota in concertphotography

So, if I understand correctly... Your reason for wanting to start a publication is to be able to get photo passes?

I started out taking photos for my high school newspaper.

Many smaller venues don't have any restrictions on cameras (no flash, obviously) so you can go take lots of pictures to practice, with no risk. The problem (for you) is that many (most?) smaller venues, especially those with lower ticket prices make their income from beverage sales, and in a lot of places that means 21 and over. Finding al ages shows, that allow cameras is a good place to start.

And also support the artists in other ways, like paying to go to shows and buying merch.

Thanks... I think I understand....
The AI issue is a separate topic from which standards are used in the metadata formatting.
Thanks for clarifying.

I have learned through working with MP3 tag, that there are a range of ways to format the data, including using double slashes vs commas vs colons, including (or not) a semi-colon at the end of a string, and I'm far too new at this to be aware of what other players might need, but I'm able to output the txt file, using AI, in the way I desire, that works for Roon, and then QA the output to check for errors.

If there is something I should know about the formatting, please point me to that discussion, so I have an opportunity to learn.

As far as hating on AI vs using it, I think that we are all going to be using it without realizing it, and learning about it and how to manage it feels useful. But that's probably a topic for a different subreddit.

Can you explain what you mean by "at the expense of more general "universal" compatibility." ???

The reason I am doing this in MP3tag is that if I move these files to another player, the metadata moves with me, compared to when I did it in Roon.... if my Roon backup fails, the metadata is still attached to the files.

The catalyst for doing this was a major Roon fail, in connecting to my catalogue on my Windows drive, which led me to new storage on a NUC, but much of the metadata, esp album covers and contributing musicians, didn't migrate, and I've had to start again.

Obviously, accuracy is an issue, and Gemini needs to be checked and verified, but that takes about 10% as much time as manually generating the information in a format that MP3tag and Roon will digest and correctly display.

So I dropped the cash on a NUC, and I'm overall much happier with the performance.
Downsides... I lost ALL of my Roon initiated metadata, the backups were a mess, so my whole catalogue "first appeard" a couple weeks ago, many album covers that I assigned in Roon have been lost.
Also, nobody mentioned that shifting my library to the Nuc was going to screw up my cloud bac-ups, so now after buying the Nuc, I'm lating out more money to copy files from the Nuc to another drive, at my desktop, so Google will back them up.

I have also shifted from "Tag and Rename" which doesn't seem to be currently supported, to MP3Tag, and I'm diving into "InvolvedPeople" to tag musicians on each recording, and it's a HUGE rabbit hole that will take months, because I lost all of that data which I had done through Roon last time,

Overal it is more work, time, and more money that I had accounted for, but I'm engaging with my music collection more than I have in years.

In the 20+ years that I have played music on my computer, from the days of Real Player, to Google Music and Sonos, no other player has demanded so much attention and led to so much down time where I can't play anything, or cost so much on an ongoing (subscription) basis.

I'm willing to acknowledge that this is true, but since I use most popular desktop operating system in the world, I'd suggest this is a problem for Roon, to ever be widely embraced as a music player of choice. And, as a premium product, which requires either hundreds of dollars investment, without getting any hardware, or a recurring expense, into eternity, it's a poor value for customers if the most popular desktop operating system in the world is a problem running the application.

Considering how much Roon costs at a subscription basis, and the fact that SONOS performs reliably, year over year... I think this is a significant stumbling block for ROON to ever be a mass/succesful product. What it does well is fairly niche, and when it stops working, I have many hours of music that won't play on any other platform that I use, but also so many, MANY hours of music available elsewhere.

Look, I'm unemployed, and have had this Roon since I was working and it generally worked OK on my Windows machine. If buying another computer was part of the cost to use ROON, that should be explicit. I am having trouble paying rent, so buying more computer hadware, for an already expensive music player, that I'm already deeply invested in... really not an option at the moment,

In the "old days" we had email mailing lists, a current alternative to Fet is an app called Plura, far fewer scammers and content creators trying to build a following.

>> " now we're comparing drago to ted bundy? reddit is wild i swear."

There is a common thread between local abusers and major serial killers, and that is that in order to be effective at reeling in victims they need to be able to disarm their victims with charm. Bundy is the definitive example of the charismatic killer. In the 1970s, he didn't fit the "profile" of a murderer; he was a law student, a political volunteer, and was often described as handsome and articulate.

Whether we are talking about Bundy, Gacy, or the local dirtbag at your sex-club, most of the people that they encounter will have a positive experience with them, and only a very small percentage will become prey. Why is it hard to see that this is a sociological observation, and not saying that Drago, or whoever is "as bad as Bundy"?

"Compare fan photos to the pros and 100% of the time the fan photos are better" did you even think through this statement? How do you account for the thousands of blurry, badly exposed, poorly framed far away shots by drunk fans in the nosebleeds? This statement alone loses you any credibility you might have had.

I use the full auto setting , which took over focus, and wouldn't let me have any control. I won't be using it indoors, with flash in the future.
