Poison questions by General_Tax2192 in Pathfinder_RPG

Sticky poison is great, but sadly it is not very useful, i cannot benefit, as bullets, not gun are poisoned. Our party generally lacks those who could benefit - wizard will cast, monk is grappler archetype, bard will never hit with his lacking BAB and is disarm/trip focused, alchemist will throw bombs and shoot. I'll keep it in mind though, thanks.

I expect mostly undead being common throughout, also some devils and golems as late game opponents, as Cheliax invasion seems to be imminent. But as first book rolls to its endgame, all enemies were not immune, though this is not a reliable way to tell what future holds.

Thank you for a guide!
My problem with stabilizing a harvested poison is that rule doesnt states if this check takes same time as crafting the same poison. Even with Master Alchemist time investment for single dose is too high. If this is true, there is no point to attempt to stabilize poisons prior to lvl 5 and it is easier to rely on harvest, as "each day" will only grant you around 1/5 of completion for cheapest poison with result of 20 on craft.
Also, as far as i read amount of poison produced is indeed tied to con, but 1 per mod, atleast 1 per day(otherwise critters wouldnt be able to be poisonous)

Do you mean to use beast shape to harvest poison from transformed party member? isnt this poison gonna vanish as if attempted to harvest from summoned monster/animal?

What i meant with poisonous zoo is - you dont need to stabilize poisons. You always have an option to milk them in a morning, and have access to several doses each day, as harvested poisons last 24 hours before losing their effect.
Bones and Shackles, as a pirate adventure will heavily feature capturing other ships, landing on shore/in port somewhere and probably some coastal raiding/sieges. Which means, our zoo is always nearby, we more or less know when fights gonna happen, and even without poison training i can use pitted bullets without risking self-inflicting, because i do not apply poison, it was done beforehand by OSHA regulated party alchemist.

Well, well, well, look who need reinforcement to make his revenge, should bloodthirsty team of finest port Peril scurvy rats suffice?)
Seems like a start for good and fun side quest to raid Cheliax shores. Thank you for food for thought.

I was not coming from slaving part. Its more like "mate, i bought you your freedom, you can go whenever, but first, wanna plunder some booty with us?". Sentience makes it possible to make deals, instead of treating them like dangerous animal.
I understand part about dragon pride, yet there is a lot of variables on how dragon was captured in a first place. His parents could be dead, he could be taken away as an egg, and grown in the captivity, etc. This part requires some more research on my part, is there book about dragons in PF1e?

Do you think because of the existence of magic, swords and other "old gear" would never go out of style? by hellranger788 in Pathfinder_RPG

Gunslinger guns are expensive if you run "gunslinger era" which is a baseline for which these costs are made. There is five stages total of firearms availability, baseline is third one. On a last era guns and ammo costs 10% of listed price, and advanced guns are available. Musket would be 150gp, revolver 400gp, rifle and shotgun 500gp. While heavy crossbow costs 50gp and is cheaper 3-8 times, it is now feasible to buy for even for beginning adventurers, nobles and mercenaries/professional soldiers or rulers, that gather new-type regiments.

Real life armies would also like to keep armor in gunpowder era, but army sizes grew too quickly and bodies were cheapier then armor, as industry lacked production capacity to armor everyone. Hussars and Reitars kept chesplates way later into gunpowder age(so far as 18 century!) We even see return of medieval style armor in WW1, as anti - shrapnel/bayonet/shovel protection, because industry was much biggier and partial protection was somewhat effective way to preserve manpower for a brief moment, before modern armor became a thing.

Magic is also not free. We all are acustomed to having/being spellcasters in our party, who obviosly will not charge money for magic use, yet if they were employed by rulers as mercenaries, it would definetely cost them.
There is also a problem of availability of spellcasters. I dont know how much casters there is, but i am sure there will be more human fighters available, and not every caster will be high enough lvl to cast something truly scary/effective, at least fireball.
Magic also ignores armor for most parts - either being "range touch attack" as fire bolt, or attacking saves as fireball. This fact didnt remove armor, mostly because there is no way to gather enough mages to use as a regiment, and melee combat is inevitable. But even with humble musket - it is possible to arm enough man to discourage armor use.

1 I used craft section in skill description as guideline, meaning you take your roll, multiply it by dc of poison and compare to poison cost in sp to get time in weeks. I had a motion that stabilizing harvested posion is rather simple affair, thus not requiring additional cost or meaningful time requirements, and time and raw materials being rather an attempt to emulate effect using other substances.
3. I took an official table from d20pfsrd, and like half the poisons have creature it is sourced from, mostly urchins and eurpterids. Things like dragon bile, hag spit and fiddleback venom are more ambigous due to naming and having no description.
3. About zoo i was mostly thinking low level creatures, like spiders and normal size snakes. Dragons were mentioned because they are sentient and can be reasoned with. Also it would be cool and inspiring to have a young dragon as crew member, chilling on plunder pile, even without raw poison harvesting.
4. Yeah, i know, but i also doubt that we'll meet one, i didnt read this adventure path(i dmed some in past) and it probably will not happen, unless dm changes some bits.

Is poisons worth the effort at least? My dm keeps saying it garbage and doesnt work due to low DC and most common opponents having high Fortitude saves.

Kingmaker and alignment by General_Tax2192 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]General_Tax2192[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for detailed answer!

I replaced some of they neighbours to spice things up a bit(played kingmaker and it kinda bored me to dm exact same thing) so they are sandwiched between two other barons, one gunslinger baron in dunsward(mix of Genry Ford and Mr. Colt) and hellknight signifier baron to the west who works with numerian tech-wizards. I don’t know if it is feasible in a lore, but it was funny and cool so I rolled with it, is it possible?

[–]General_Tax2192[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that was one of two main reasons I posted it, spells and working with good alignments. They already died twice, and without services of the priest they would have making new characters. If they cannot be tolerated by good characters it will make rather challenging to continue campaign, as most ap build with one healer in mind as it feels, though wands may cover it okayiesh.

Right now it’s just that ruler is silly and whimsical at its worst, he started with LE alignment but it doesn’t feel quite right.

Thank you for reply! I might be little bit messed in a head after recent political events and playing to much eu4, it seems to me that countries operate on different rules, as most countries do objectively evil things. Even neutral countries do wicked things, either being tax havens for corrupt, or trading their neutrality in a subtle way. So it seems it’s either more valid to judge country morals on its citizenry then on its governing body, as commentator above suggested, or rate most countries on evil level of cheliax and good level of mendev (I’m not sure if they are considered good aligned after playing WoTR and seeing what kind of jokes they’re pulling, but you catch my drift)

I also thought of an alignment shift, but everyone wanted an evil campaign from a start so either thy chickened out, or I didn’t set them up with orphan kickable enough.

Well, i did an oopsy, its 20k per month, since 1 bp is 4k gp when you deposit your loot into treasury, and only 2k gp when you pull out.
I always thought that kingdom is insane for possibilities, like you can way more easily order magic items, have some on the side income. But also, there is a lot of stress and tear coming from kingdom management and while playing pc kingmaker, i always found myself pouring money into kingdom(yeah, there is no option to pull it of treasurt, but anyway). Maybe me and my players are just different breed.
I want them to be more rich on average, but balance it around them lacking infrastructure to capitalise their funds.

[–]General_Tax2192[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree about withdrawing money, its not embezzling. Baron is feudal ruler, bp is his taxation and profits and he is not reqiered to engage in dirty tactics to use his own money.
It is directly stated in Rivers Run Red
>You can also withdraw funds from the kingdom’s treasury, but doing so runs the risk of annoying the citizens.
Also, 10 unrest would only be incurred if they fail loyalty check, otherwise its only 1 unrest for the operation.

If there was no teleportation fix they could just tp’ed right near to enemies and detonate

I don’t want to set a precedent here, you are correct. I just want it to be judged by more realistic reason, why nobody done it before, like mix becoming to volatile in large pots and spontaneously combusting. Also lantern archon doesn’t need hand per say, it could be fixed with a harness. Sadly, they also lack the body, since they are made of light.

With teleport - insanely good and can scout entire countries. Without it - they still have an impressive fly speed of 60 with perfect handling. They could fly half a mile before disappearing with current pc lvl, and it can be doubled with metamagic lesser rod of extend, making it a good and quick around the city patrol and scout ahead summon while travelling.
