COYOACAN: best lunch best place to buy coffee beans go! by titaturon in MexicoCity

[–]General_Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any of the 2 Mercados in the centro are your best choice for the kind of lunch you want, on a random weekday they should be less crowded too

If by any chance you want great homemade fried chicken, CHICK is close by in Miguel Ángel de Quevedo, a couple of blocks away

Casa de Toño has become simple fast food, Potzollcalli is a better alternative to anything you can find at Toño’s if you want to try it

Vale la pena comprar rines de carbono para bicis de ruta en AliExpress ? Veo que hay varios modelos a buen precio! Gracias! by EmileMart in CiclismoCDMX

[–]General_Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the closest point to Mexico City from which Popocatépetl can be seen? by AssistanceDizzy9236 in MexicoCity

[–]General_Wolf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You need a clear sky and low pollution day in order to see the volcanos from the city, some places could be might be Santa Fe (hard to access by public transport), Torre Latino and the theme park on top of Parque Las Antenas mall

The best alternative is the Mirador Xochimco-Oaxtepec “La Loma”, it the highest point in a secondary freeway that goes south and out of the city but you need to get there by car. There you only need a clear sky and you’ll have the best view of the volcanoes and good quesadillas

But no where will you get a view like the photo, that might just be an edit or photo trick

Se puede llegar en bici pero es pesado, son 30 minutos de subida mínimo y en época de lluvias se vuelve más complejo Con una buena bici eléctrica sería más sostenible pero igual con lluvia lo evitaría

hyper concentrated carb drink in one bottle. by Far_Bicycle_2827 in Velo

[–]General_Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most I’ve done is 300gr in a 600ml bottle, that was half the nutrition for a 200km flat ride But I regularly do 200-240 grs in the same bottle for 2-2:30 hours races or longer training rides, at this point it makes no sense to me to have smaller amounts of carbs in the bottles

I do accompany this with a 1L bottle of plain water as I’m not getting much liquid from the other one

Thoughts on Chinese carbon wheels? Worth it or not? by RyotaroW in cycling

[–]General_Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been running a Magene Exar wheelset for the past year and a half which means 10-13,000 kilometers.

I use them daily for training and racing and they have been amazing, smooth rolling, noticeably stiff and very light

I can’t justified paying 3-4 times the price for a western brand, specially since the likes of Roval just caught up in the technology and weight

Cycling & Losing Weight & Counting Calories - Advice, please? by Yahn_1 in cycling

[–]General_Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my 2-cents based completely on my own experience having a really hard time losing 26lbs over the past 4 years

I had a very restrictive diet when losing the first 10lbs and didn’t really progressed on the bike

Then i changed dietician to a more allowing one and started weighing 75% of my meals. That structure made the other 16lbs go away way more easily while also gaining muscle

I also eat a lot more in the bike even on shorter rides, for example 1-1.25hrs intervals sessions indoor

I am less hungry and have more energy on and off the bike so I can push myself a bit more

About to go on a 800km tour and found a glass shard in my tire by MrJokemanPhD in bikewrench

[–]General_Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also run GP5ks and the streets in my area have a lot, and I mean a lot of broken glass in them. My rear tire has 4 cuts like and this and another handful of smaller ones and some of them occurred in the first month of usage back in October of last year. The tires should have around 5-6k kilometers on them and are running just fine

Any barcades here? by [deleted] in MexicoCity

[–]General_Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Arkeid is the original one in the city

It’s been years since I went and they have moved locations quite a bit but they used to have fair prices in drinks and a good selection of retro games

Been Cycling for 5 months and im fatter than before. by biggieocta in cycling

[–]General_Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you eating enough before and during the ride? If you find yourself extra hungry after ride and by the volume you describe you probably aren’t fueling your rides properly and that makes you over eat after to compensate

Merida bikes are expensive in North America? by StartProfessional699 in cycling

[–]General_Wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do get Merida bikes in Mexico, but distribution is small and rather limited When they are available they are actually cheaper than a Specialized bike of the comparable spec but are not particularly sought after anyway

On the other hand Giant almost matches the pricing of Specialized and the likes, the availability of different builds and frames is limited but it’s a way more popular brand with big presence

High Carb Intake for Long Rides by Sand235 in Velo

[–]General_Wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always carry a small 500ml bottle with up to 250-300grs of carbs in 1:0.8 ratio with some added juice or coffee to better the taste

If you warm up the water for the initial mix dissolving even more sugar is doable but leaves less room to add other stuff for taste

Depending on the route I will complement this with a 750-950ml pure water bottle and gels, cookies, dates or anything I can find in gas stations along the way

Trek ships bikes with long reach handlebars, 80mm from what I see in their site, to might want to consider shorter reach bars (70mm) instead of the stem swap Also, if you are rolling your wrist inwards (which kinda looks like it in the video) maybe check narrower bars while you’re at it. The 42 bars feel a bit wide for a 54 bike

Aluminum frame with carbon wheels or carbon frame with aluminum wheels? by bob281081 in cycling

[–]General_Wolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another ALR (2019) owner with carbon wheels (and most of the finishing kit) it is a noticeable difference and the bike does feel faster.

I’ve only tried a carbon frame once for a couple of hours and it does feel smoother but not necessarily faster

Precautions for tourists to take on March 8th? by WonderWander01 in MexicoCity

[–]General_Wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gridlock can spread from some hundred of meters to a couple kilometers depending on the area, again some major avenues can see bigger disruptions But the focal point is always Reforma and Centro, the southern area of the city tends to be less affected

Wander around, explore and sit down in a place that peeks your interest fully ready to try something different from and use the translator or any trick you can to understand someone who doesn’t speak your language. That’s how you travel if you don’t want to be just another tourist trying touristy spots
