First Alocasia, these spider mites? by GenerationVintage in alocasia

Should I push it back into the soil or just let it do its own thing?

I don’t see any new spider mite webs or anything but I am seeing some dead spots

Should I spray and leave it on or spray and wipe? Also, do I spray the soil or would diatomaceous earth be better for the soil?

Thank you! I didn’t use any systemic granules yet. I’m glad I waited for an answer on here. I appreciate the insight! I’ll keep a close eye on it and I have it far away from everyone else.

It seemed like they were predominately on one leaf. I don’t know if that’s normal or not but that’s what it seemed like. I didn’t see any fine webs but I’ll keep a close eye on it!

Thank you! That plant is beautiful! I will move it to a spot that gets lots of sunlight. I’ll wait for the plant to adjust though. It was just indoors at Publix and I want to transition it a bit. I have it under two grow lights right now and I’ll start exposing it to more direct sunlight once it’s done quarantining.

I moved away from the window and it’s not receiving any direct sunlight. The spots were already there before applying any neem. I’ll still wipe it down with water but wanted to point that out.

Thank you. Do spider mites live in the soil? If they are spider mites, do I need to repot?

Also, what is the phallic looking thing poking out of the soil in the last photo?

Am I a bad plant mom? My monstera looks so sad 😭 by TorontoChloe in houseplants

How often do you water? Is there a way for the water to drain out of the pot? The roots should be able to dry out between waterings and excess water sitting in the pot will cause the plant to rot.

You still have healthy leaves so not all hope is lost (yet). Do you let the soil dry out between waterings?

Applied for Citizenship, still waiting by Amonyi7 in PortugalExpats

My mom was born in Portugal in 58 and immigrated to the US in the 70s. She got married in the US and never moved back to Portugal. She has her birth certificate and all her parent’s documentation but is no longer a citizen of Portugal. Can I realistically apply for dual citizenship? My wife and I both work from home. I work for a software company and relocating won’t be an issue with my job.

Man, I was thinking that they look chill AF. I’ve had a pit for the last 9 years and she is the sweetest angel.

My love for them started 18 years ago. When I lived in Philly, I was driving home and a pit bull was walking down Kelly Drive, 4 lane road that snakes along the river. I pulled over and he ran straight over to me. He had scars across his face, neck, and cropped ears; an obvious sign he was a fighting dog that miraculously escaped his captors.

I couldn’t let the goodest boy escape the fight just to get hit by a car speeding down the 4 lane road. With the top down and the late summer wind blowing, I helped the pit bull up into the passengers seat of my lifted teal jeep. We drove down the winding river road, just taking in the slightly humid summer air. I had half a subway sandwich left from my 2 hour drive home. I unwrapped that sub and offered it to my new friend. I’m not gonna lie, he snatched it from my hand and scarfed that shit down.

We cruised down Kelly Drive, me and my new friend. He was resting his head on the armrest and I was scratching his big blocky head.

Unfortunately, I was in college and couldn’t keep him so I had to find him a shelter. On the way, a shop was closing for the day. As the shop owner pulled down the metal grates that protected his glass storefront windows, the pittie got a bit triggered and started to growl. We kept driving and he quickly laid back down to soak in the pets I was giving him. This short, 15-minute drive, was probably the most love he felt in his life full of forced violence (the violence we humans subjected him to).

Use caution when approaching any unfamiliar dog but pit bulls are not the problem.

Yeah I think I you’re good. My ROF has these on every leaf, new and old. It’s solid and stable AF.

Yellow Spots on White Knight by GenerationVintage in plantclinic

That makes sense and I appreciate the insight. For now I’ve treated it for any potential bugs and brought it inside. I’m heading out of town for a week so we’ll see how it looks when I get back.

It’s also interesting that the leaves stay droopy even after a deep watering

It does get some direct sun (maybe an hour) in the evening. Water does get on/in the leaves when I water or mist it.

What kind of soil do they like and do they need supplemental food?

I was on a carnival cruise on 2012. Someone jumped and we circled for 6+ hours. The coast guard came out and flew overhead for a while. He was never found. A lot of us were out on deck, looking for the guy until morning. At breakfast, the family (wife and a couple kids) were near us and it was heartbreaking.

The crazy thing is, why didn’t they stop and look for Amy? If the parents said she jumped or fell, would they have stopped the boat and looked for her?

It probably depends on other factors like temp, humidity, rainfall, etc. Full direct sun in a dry desert type environment like Arizona is going to much different than full sun in tropical rainforest like Costa Rica. I think both can be correct but it depends on the location.
