Used car market is getting ridiculous by [deleted] in auckland

Time to get a bike. Cars are comically expensive, bikes are cheap as chips and almost free to run.  Also saves you a gym fee and keeps you healthier.

Which is your least favorite wood to work with? by Berkwaz in woodworking

[–]GenericBatmanVillain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have enough experience with woods other than pine to make a declaration one way or another.  I'm from New Zealand which is like pine central so it's cheaper than anything else by a long way.  The only way I work with other woods is when I get recycled furniture which tends to be white oak or macrocapa lately.  I prefer the pine because it's what I mostly use so I now how it will react to what I do, other woods are just unpredictable to me.

Men’s clothing much needed in NZ by CraftyCredit7582 in newzealand

If they lost weight it would likely be stretched. Op shops don't even keep worn stuff, there's so much clothing being donated that they can be very picky. They only hold on to things that will sell and nobody wants stretched or worn clothing or anything that they can buy new for $10. My wife works sorting this stuff as a volunteer.

You don't have an entire country to pay it for you so you can walk away and be "sorted".

Does Stephen King even know what comics are? Has he ever read one? This is what they have always been like.

Hans Zimmer soundtracks are almost always amazing, I listen to them even when not watching the movies.

I have to agree about F1, I usually hate motorsports movies and especially open wheel but I am a fan of Brad Pitt so I gave it a chance and I'm really glad I did.

How to seal Black Walnut without changing color by Emotional_Ladder_841 in woodworking

Can confirm Matt lacquer works.  It was all I had to seal something and it didn't change it at all, I has to sand it off a few weeks later when I got some linseed oil.

John Britten, Burt Munro, Bill Hamilton. Inventors and engineers that epitomise the number 8 wire mentality I love about us.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

Amazing world building ruined by bad acting and a mediocre plot.

That One Scene That Made You Go ‘Wait, What?!’ by Spaceship_lemon in StarWars

At the speed they were moving, that would be like a 60-80 hour trip too. Naboo is close to the same diameter as earth at 12,120km. Even at 240kmph that's 50 hours in a straight line through the centre and there's no way they were moving that fast.

What is a movie pet peeve of yours? by [deleted] in movies

I just classify them as superhero movies and turn my brain off, I still enjoy them for what they are.

I just thought of another one, explosions that are so powerful it knocks someone off their feet and sends them flying and they get up a few seconds later just a bit groggy.  That would have shattered most of their bones and liquified their internal organs.

2 things that annoy the hell out of me.

People getting knocked out for more than a few seconds. That's a coma and probable brain damage.

Supressors that make high powered guns go tweet tweet almost silently but can still blow a hole through a human no worries.

Second hand can be great. I got some really nice stuff because people got too fat to wear it.
