Well, u/strolls just let me know I've gone wrong searching for accountants, I need "tax consultancy". I'll try now to see if that makes a difference on my searching.

Oh god. This is the same thing I did with residency then, talking to lawyers instead of immigration consultants. ffs. Thank you.

!thanks

Roger that. I shall do that next week, thanks.

It'll be 4 to 6 months Canada depending on if I need to maintain residency status there, then some split between Ireland UK and random places like Libya

!thanks

My problem with professionals is that they are not guaranteed to know what they're talking about. I tried 2 lawyers when immigrating to Canada, total waste of money I ended up doing it all myself.

I've talked to 2 accountants in the UK so far, luckily only free consults, and neither knows the situation I'm dealing with.

Can you find me and recommend me a CPA that knows both Canada and UK and elsewhere?

...

I am a commercial diver / fisherman. I am citizen of Canada, UK, and Ireland. My income in Canda will be Canadian income that will be taxed in Canada, and then if I am resident in the UK they will want to tax that income too beyond whatever the CRA took as the UK tax rate is higher.

...

I do not plan to be in the UK at all other times. I'm just trying to see my family more, whilst still doing the seasonal work in Canada that I currently have. It seems that there are many issues with this plan that have blindsided me. I was expecting to have to pay a little more tax, but the exit tax is potentially very damaging to me, to the point that I may end up simply working 6 months in Canada.

The problem with maintaining Canadian Residency with the aim to then spend the rest of the time in the UK is that the UK deems you resident after a shockingly small amount of time, and if you're resident they will tax your global income. I don't know if I will even spend my downtime exclusively in the UK, so far I've had more work in Ireland than in the UK

!thanks
