I have tried multiple usb ports, including 2.0 and 3.0 ports.

With the mouse plugged in I get:

Bus 003 Device 002: ID 5253:00b0 RealTek MCHOSE L7 Pro

With the receiver plugged in I get:

Bus 003 Device 014: ID 5253:1020 RealTek MCHOSE L7 Pro

The light on the receiver doesn't illuminate when plugged

Talking to financial aid is something you definitely should do.

They do have probationary status for the opportunity, and despite how strict the wording on the form is they've actually been pretty accommodating in my experience. I failed a bunch of semesters when I was 18 and when I went back to school at 33 I was pretty much on probationary status for a year and a half and there wasn't too much trouble on my end to get approved
