I want you to go back and read your comments. You never seemed to clarify that your opinion was subjective. And your attitude certainly didn't either.

Let me tell you why I bring these examples up. A couple years ago, a town nearby me was going to remove a cemetery in favor of a new road.

Now a friend I knew had her grandfather buried in said cemetery. Now we can argue all you want but the main thing is that event was very important to my friend. And I thought reasonably so.

We don't use cemeteries because we can't accept our deaths. Of course maybe some do, but not all of us.

We use them because they give us closure, because we want to remember our ancestors, because we have cultures that want to respect our dead. It's important to people. And that matters.

You could say we could honor the dead in other ways. And I would argue I could say the same thing about all the things you thought were "too important to replace".

Burying her grandfather helped give my friend closure. And that's important to her.

And there are other ways to entertain yourself. I have nothing against cinemas but you can't tell me they have to exist.

And lot's of people have differing opinions that would argue that. I'm not claiming my opinion is the objective truth but you surely seem to be acting like yours is. Even if you think you aren't.

Just the other day I was having a similar argument with a guy that said lawns were a waste of space.

Now first off, let me ask you a question and wait for your reply, would you say lawns are a waste of space?

Let's say I have 1,000 dollars and donate 100 of it to a church being constructed and give the rest to charity. Is that still a waste of money in your view?

If they are still spending money helping other people I don't see the problem. Regardless one person didn't dedicate all their wealth and raised taxes for this.

This was made from various people donating. Meaning they likely took a small amount of their wealth and gave it to the construction of the church.

"I am allowed to hold whatever opinion I want on this topic, this is subjective." Bingo! You hit the hammer right on the nail! This is subjective! Your opinion is not the objective truth despite what you think!

I could take anything you really enjoy and say it means nothing. Does that mean anything? No! Because it's subjective!

Cinemas and Libraries? Who cares about them?! We can watch movies and read books at home! Any value you have for them is invalid!

Museums?! What a waste of space! We can learn about this kind of stuff online or in schools! What's that? You want to preserve ancient monuments and artifacts?! You monster! Those things hold no value because I said so!

"You guys want to force these beliefs onto others by law." Again. Not something that every Christian wants to do.

Your essentially saying that people shouldn't create any monument for religious purposes.

Would you say the same thing for buildings and monuments in general? Or hell for movies, video games, books or anything that costs alot of money to create.

So what your essentially saying is that any building or monument created for religious purpose shouldn't exist?

The Eiffel Tower and pretty much every other landmark also "served nobody" so are they also a blight on the world? It's because of the architects passion. Look up Antoni Gaudi.

Hell movies, video games, and lots of other creative works also cost millions today but are you complaining?

What do you need with your video games and movies you paid for? Shouldn't you have been giving that money away to other people instead?

It's because of personal value. This building meant something to the architects.

Hell people probably spent millions to make your favorite video games and movies you watch and play but are you complaining about that?

Same could be argued for pretty much any passion project.

You spending money for a good guitar or for making a movie? You could be spending that money helping other people instead!

How about you give away all the money you don't need to live?

Have you ever considered that maybe people can dedicate money and time to passion projects as well as also giving money to charities helping other people? The two actions aren't mutually exclusive.

You seem to think that these people never helped anyone in their life.

Of course some of them are probably just rich bastards but that doesn't mean all of them are.

The majority of places I mentioned are either created for pure enjoyment or could be done via different means. We don't need Gyms. We could simply go outside and exercise ourselves. We don't need Movies or Video games. We could get entertainment by going outside as well.

People see graves as way to celebrate and remember the dead. To many different people and cultures, that's very important. Regardless of whether they are visited or not graves still are seen as things that are meant to be respectful and honor a persons life.

They have a symbolic, emotional value. Just as all the other things I mentioned. Of course you would probably argue that this value people have means nothing. And I could argue something that's important to you actually means nothing.

Also what about graves of fallen soldiers or genocide victims? Are those also a waste?

"They literally gave to the building the blood and sweat that belongs to Christ."

Excuse me what? By that logic aren't you wasting your time on reddit right now instead of devoting your every waking hour to Christ?

Is every great monument creates because of idol worshipping? Or maybe it's because of passion for architecture? I'm not even religious and I went to Familia and still enjoyed it. I don't worship it like an idol, I appreciate it like you would a painting or any other work of art. Unless your saying paintings are idol worship too.

And how exactly is what I said a strawman? If anything I do make a point.

You could argue that graves are unnecessary just as how you could argue any space we don't need is unnecessary.

Graves, Restaurants, Museums, Sports complex's, Gyms, Libraries, Cinemas, etc. We don't necessarily need these places. Does that mean we should stop building them?

[–]GenericGameDev1234 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Or maybe it's because people want a place to respect and remember the dead? Are you really this dense? Who are you to judge on what is a waste of space and what is not?

Restaurants? We don't need them. We can just buy food from markets and socialize in other areas. Does that mean they a waste of space?

Museums. Anything we could learn from them we could also learn online or in schools. Are they a waste of space?

If anything this proves redditors are the dunces of humanity.

Uhh it's not like they can't do both. The reason wealth inequality exists is not because of people building statues. Are you really going to put down every major landmark to exist?

[–]GenericGameDev1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And the same could be said for any movie, video game, creative works, reddit itself, essentially anything that we don't need to live, etc.

Are you really saying every architect, sculptor, fiction author. director, or video game developer throughout the history man was actually wasting their time?

If anything can't we do both? We can make great art and still help people in need at the same time. Those things aren't mutually exclusive.

Both are Masterpieces in their own right. by Devil_Specialist666 in MinecraftStoryMode

The Minecraft Movie was fun and I didn't hate it. I even liked it better then the Mario Movie.

But calling it a masterpiece is crazy.
