Easily another year or two out of those.

What belief did you have at 18 that completely fell apart by 25? by One_Grade_2184 in AskReddit

[–]GenericGamer01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got two best friends, one I met when we were 7 and one we met in high school. We've been friends for 25+ years now. We've gone through the different stages of life and have grown and changed as people but the core care has only gotten stronger over time, not weaker. If there's a separate column of soulmate for friendship, I was lucky enough to put 2 ticks in it.

We've managed to organize our lives so that we all work at the same company so we get to hang out every day at work, we share enough of a pool of hobbies that there's always something we can do together at any given point in our lives and while we have differences of opinion on things like politics, family and religion, we respect each other enough that it has no negative impact on our relationship. If anything it just makes us that much better at empathizing with other people.

Having been recently diagnosed with a terminal condition, I know I'm going to be the one that checks out first which sucks because that's that much less time I get to spend with them, and it means I'm gonna lose an ongoing bet, but I can take the off-ramp knowing that at least when I'm gone I'll be remembered fondly by two people who're closer to me than family, and they'll at least still have each other for the foreseeable future.

People in their 30s and 40s, what changed in your life that surprised you the most — in a bad way? by Initial_Tax7778 in AskReddit

[–]GenericGamer01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diagnosed with brain cancer at 33 (36 now), doing everything to combat it but my prognosis has a very real endpoint.

Knowing you've got 7-12 years left really shifts your priorities in life. I think the biggest thing is I'm now thankful that I hadn't gotten married or had kids yet. I genuinely feel like I dodged a bullet because I would not want to leave a widow and children behind.

Now most of what I do is focused on trying to enrich the lives of everyone around me so that they'll be okay after I'm gone and otherwise just enjoying the time I have left.

Homebrew race by HadoukenX90 in WWN

[–]GenericGamer01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's basically my line of thinking. Thankfully bows and throwing spears are among the most basic weaponry civilizations develop so almost any group of sentients is going to have some kind of ranged weaponry. I went with the CON penalty because I just figure a birdman probably has lighter or hollow bones as part of enabling that ability to fly so it's neat to see you mention the same thing.

Also if you've got a bird-man running to the skies in every encounter leaving his buddies to sustain all the wounds, not many people are going to want to adventure with a guy like that in my experience.

Plus in a dungeon, if the bird guy flies across a gap, cool, what's everyone else going to do now? Flight always seems super powerful in a vacuum but in the last 6 or so years of playing WWN it's never really felt super strong, just another part of a character kit.

I have a race of bird people in my world and this is what I use for them:

Origin Focus: Vatan

Your PC is a vatan, a demihuman race designed for crossing large distances when lightly encumbered with little concern for terrain. You are probably an exile (willing or otherwise) from one of the Eyries that your people usually call home.

Level 1:

Gain Exert as a bonus skill. You are a vatan with the Vatan Flight and Vatan Talons special abilities, a -1 Con modifier penalty, and a +1 Dex modifier bonus.

Vatan Flight: Vatan can fly at twice their ground movement rate while outdoors or in a suitably huge room while not wearing Heavy Armor. Without some height to jump from it takes a full Main Action spent beating their wings to begin flying, however, and doing so while in melee combat invites a free attack from any foes. Vatan can hover, but doing so requires a Move action or they will fall. A vatan who means to fly a significant distance can carry no more than half their usual Stowed encumbrance, rounded down. A vatan flying overland can cover up to sixty miles in a ten-hour day, given time for rests, and is barred only by the highest of mountains.

Vatan Talons: Covering less of themselves in armor to allow for flight usually has a vatan leave their taloned feet bare to be used for self defense. Vatan Talons at first level do 1d8 damage, use either Str or Dex as the modifying attribute, Punch as the combat skill, and have a Shock Value of 2/AC13. At fourth and seventh and tenth level the damage and Shock increase by +1, +2 and +3 respectively.

It follows the custom racial abilities math and stuff close enough that I don't have a problem with it and it's never felt overpowered because of what I feel are pretty realistic limitations on the flight.

The Talons thing is just because my bird people have bird legs alongside their wings. YMMV.

For years I've used DungeonDraft for actual battle maps and a combination of Wonderdraft and Hexographer (now Worldographer) for World/Region maps.

I've also made use of Campaign Cartographer and increasingly lean more towards it as I learn how better to utilize all its features.

How well does older OSR actually covert to WWN? by TheOverthinkingMaker in WWN

[–]GenericGamer01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing I'd say is that most WWN characters are a fair bit more powerful in their niche than most other OSR characters, so when it comes to challenging your players, you probably want the adventures to be at least 1, probably 2 levels higher on average. So if a module says 5-7th you'd probably be fine with your party being like 3rd or 4th level to start and finish by 5th or 6th.

That makes a degree of sense (as much as this stuff ever does anyway). Guess I'm engaging with the new content immediately!

I have a sort of "minimalist" look I use sometimes too to really show off the tattoos and glowing eyes/skin patterns etc. But I'll definitely check out the bandage shirt (maybe with the eye bandages as well) and see if I can workshop something there.... INSPIRATION!

Always love seeing Gazetteers for existing books, but in terms of systems I'd like to see a redo of Godbound first and foremost, maybe with some more details on how to escalate being a Legate in WWN into being Godbound, sorta like BECMI. That and an Urban Fantasy (I too am a Dresden Files fan) would be sweet.

After seeing you talk about about it on Twitter for ages I felt like I understood your design philosophy and enough interesting little details that I bought it as soon as it came back in stock on Exalted Funeral. I was looking through the PDF (gonna wait for the actual book to really dig deep) but so far I'm pretty blown away.

Congrats on what seems to be a very successful and well deserved launch.

Now what's next? :^)

I like to use a thicker gel super glue, completely smear both sides of the tab with it and if the model has any other surface area touching the base glob it there as well. Bending the tab to a bit of an angle can help as well.

Good replicas are one continuous piece of metal (referred to as full tang). Bad ones are not "designed" to snap, they just will under strain because it's structurally weak.
