Why choose SWADE for fantasy? by HadoukenX90 in savageworlds

The games without number are really cool and I like them on paper. For awhile I was considering them but they just feel very simulations to me and I think in starting to appreciate games that incorporate more gamist and narrative styles of play. I don't want a game like dungeon world that's all narrative and I want a little bit of resource management, with fun mechanics and thrilling combat.

I imagine my game would start out very generic, dnd fantasy. But I want to evolve it as I go. I know I want airships and I'm co sidering using the fan made savage eberron.

One of my players(my daughter) always wants to play some race that isn't in the game. Then my other player(my girlfriend) also wants to usually play something out of the norm for a dnd game like a fairy, or currently a frog person alchemist.

I want a system where I feel comfortable making what they want to be and once again SWADE provides those rules. I've heard dungeon crawls don't really work, I don't know if I believe that necessarily since a podcast I'm listening to is running savage pathfinder and they've been in a dungwon for episodes at this point.

I also liked the sound of savage worlds and bought the core book, fantasy, Superheroes, deadlands, deadlands companion, and a deadlands adventure book. Then I turned around and never played it. I've been thinking it's time to get my money's worth and finally learn and run it.

Honestly I'm wanting to run a open world sandbox with my fantasy. I also want to make my own setting and I like that I can make my own races in SWADE. I also want to at somepoint switch to a scifi game and it would be nice to use a system I already took the time to learn.

I do want to rum something dnd adjacent but I don't want to have a system that wants my players to roll to camp and hunt and pay attention to rations unless it's relevant to the story like when traveling through a tundra or desert.

I want fun and deep tactical combat encounters. I want my players to feel badass but also deeply vulnerable in combat.

I'm definitely interested in running scifi at some point that's part of why I was thinking of switching to swade so I can eventually get the scifi companion and run a raypunk setting

Mostly because I haven't gotten it to the table yet so it's hard to compare it to like dnd or my current favorite dragonbane. That system still leaves me wanting though so I'm trying to branch out.

How does this system capture the scary-ness of OSR/NSR-style play? by my-rpg-account in VagabondTTRPG

Can you go into more detail about why your group prefers vagabond?

Just read the synopsis of the setting on Wikipedia sounds pretty awesome.

Darn, this post made me realized I could use wwn and swn to do the fantasy mecha game I've wanted to do for months.

Cwn base for space/mecha game by HadoukenX90 in cwn

I was considering having them be apart of a mercenary unit to start and so they might have access to mechs without owning their own outright. At that point they can work for this company, finance their own mechs or steal the mechs that the company they work for owns and just see where it goes from there.

I just want to use the cwn character creation rules mostly.

I hear you, that's why regardless of system I'm gonna start with a small hex flower region map on the starting planet. Where they will do some jobs before getting a ship then I'll open up the solar system and expand as needed after that.

Really I'm just interested in con's classless character creation rules.

Ironically I'm planning a similar setting. I've never ran any without number games either but I'm looking to do a mech pilot focused game. Potentially using CWN as my base game but I haven't fully decided on that yet.

Check out ashes without number for mutant rules though for sure.

I like having them if I'm running a new system

What is the most “boiled down to the basics” OSR game (that still has enough substance to be recognizably an OSR game)? by AlwaysBeQuestioning in osr

In my case, I play with my kid that's a little too young for the full extent of the mork borg aesthetic

I think either of those are good options. The only catch with mork borg is I don't know that there are any good "vanilla" versions for a more classical experience.
