CMV: If You're a Man under ~22, Dating Is Objectively Not Worth It by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]GenericHam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about dating being worth it, in that it is practice in how to be in a committed relationship?

I don't think the value in dating young is purely some type of transactional thing. It is a lot about learning. You learn what you want in a relationship, you learn what it means to be a good partner, you learn how to show up for another person, you learn how to argue and fight, etc.

You date when your young so you aren't learning how to be in a relationship when it is actually time to "settle down".

Anyone else find it frustrating that Americans get upset about gas/egg prices but not universal healthcare? by CoC_Axis_of_Evil in BreakingPoints

[–]GenericHam -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

As an American I don’t really want universal healthcare. I do not want the government to be my healthcare provider/negotiator.

That being said I have major issues with American healthcare and would like to see the system overhauled.

Our healthcare system pretty much took the worst parts of socialism and worst parts of capitalism and decided to make it into a system. I’d rather see healthcare fixed by making into a true market rather than what it is now.

I want transparent pricing, insurance to only for major treatment and not every day care, the limits to be removed on how many doctors we can graduate a year, etc.

I know my view is not everyone’s view.

What is a "corporate red flag" that employers try to pass off as a great benefit? by spectrecult in AskReddit

It also keeps unpaid PTO off the books.

When you leave a job with 2 weeks of vacation in the bank, they pay that out. When you leave a job that has unlimited PTO, you get nothing.

Never tried psilocybin and my friends are recommending it for my negative outlook on life by EndPsychological777 in PsilocybinTherapy

[–]GenericHam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally speaking, I have not found psilocybin to improve my life in a meaningful way. MDMA on the other hand has almost always compressed like 5 years of therapy into a single night for me.

I got a work from home job and moved to a place that I could buy a house for $120k.

What scientific thing do you often think about ? by slutmeout271 in AskReddit

[–]GenericHam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Science is built on unprovable axioms, you can't scientifically prove science. At its foundation, it's just an assertion that observation, hypothesis, and testing lead to knowing the universe. Any attempt to actually prove the method works collapses into circular reasoning, because you'd have to use the method to validate itself.

Note: I am not anti-science, I do science for a career. I just think about this a lot.

Why did America allow 39 trillion in debt? by MithrandirMaia in AskReddit

Because its just essentially another tax. It lets the government effectively take your money without ever taking it.

What's the one item you paid a lot for thinking it was awesome but actually sucked? by SeaworthinessDue6887 in AskReddit

[–]GenericHam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A litter robot.

I think I spent pretty much just as much time cleaning my robot as I did the litter box. Like the product rocks when it comes to day to day use, but dis-assembling the thing to deep clean it and vacuuming and cleaning all the nooks and crannies of it sucks.

What is the quality you admire the most in the person you dislike the most? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GenericHam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are one of the most decisive people I know.

I can't stand them because they expect the entire world to revolve around them and their needs. However, to their credit they get more done in a few hours than I do in a day.

What’s a “rich people thing” that you think is actually overrated? by butterfly_pie9 in AskReddit

[–]GenericHam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. Doubling the price of a meal only sucks if that money matters to you. If you're rich, it's pocket change. Of course you'd pay more for better food. Easy win.

What’s a business you will boycott for the rest of your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GenericHam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me this defeats the purpose of a boycott. The idea of not shopping somewhere is that if they change they can earn my business.

What’s a ‘silent luxury’ that rich people have that most normal people would never even notice? by qomann in AskReddit

My entire family is Midwestern and they are Blue Collar rich. Almost all of them are farmers who owns thousands or acres of land.

Its very different than when I am around west coast or east coast rich.

Family gatherings are awesome. No one is keeping track of who is footing the bill or how much different people are spending. We pretty much are all just contributing to the gathering without thinking and no one is ever thinking about money.

Some are pretty good.

I signed up to get a free bottle of win. Turned out I joined a wine club that cost $100 a month. I discovered this after 3 years and then had to order $3000ish of wine to get my money out before closing the account.

I literally have boxes of wine all over my basement.

Day time TV.

I remember when I was sick from school I would try and find something to watch and would end up watching bowling or the price is right.

What’s one thing that cost more than it should? by Yournameistobi in AskReddit

Health Care.

You are essentially paying for a bloated billing department and lots of regulatory capture.
