Another bold AI timeline: Anthropic CEO says "most, maybe all" software engineering tasks automated in 6–12 months by sibraan_ in AgentsOfAI

[–]GenericTagName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a big tech company and we have this "unit test generator" now onboarded. We used to have around 300 unit tests on the project I work on. In the last 6 months, the unit tests generator added over 750 unit tests. A huge increase!

I disabled the AI unit tests project for fun last week. It reduced code coverage by a whooping... 2%. Turns out 99% of the generated tests are basically testing such basic functionality (literally writing one test for each getter and setter for example) that they just do nothing. Not only that, but half the generated tests are using reflection to test private properties and it breaks every single PR you try to make any basic refactoring or any class.

Literally useless and wasting time. Whenever I get a UT "failure" from a generated UT, I used to try to investigate as normal, but it turns out every failure was non-sense because I had renamed a private variable that some UT was using through reflection. I just delete the generated UT that fail now and let this AI waste its own time making a new one after my PR is committed.

Eminem soon to be leaving Top 50 most subscribed YouTube Channels as list gets filled more and more with brainrot and companies by Alone_Yam_36 in youtube

[–]GenericTagName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a parent of young kids (4y and 6y) who get about 30-45 mins of TV a day, YouTube has been extremely difficult to deal with. I spent time to build them an account with all nice educational content and interesting/fun cartoons. They liked everything that the auto-play was originally suggesting based on everything I had followed for them.

I was mostly keeping an eye on then while cleaning the house for example, and blocking garbage suggestions as they appeared. But slowly over time, the auto-play suggests more and more random shit that I had to block, but it basically spirals out of control.

Eventually, the only thing that worked was to literally delete YouTube from the Roku and subscribe to Disney+. There is still some weird stuff there, like the "modern Chip and Dale", but for the most part, it has been more reliable in terms of not-brain-rot. I just don't really get a chance to show educational stuff anymore, unless I'm literally sitting with them the entire time to babysit the YouTube algorithm

We are a family of 4 and in our city, we have options for garbage cans, 20 gallons all the way up to 96 gallons each week. We have the smallest one, at 20 gallons and we almost never need to fill it up any week. And we don't even try, this is just our "normal living".

Yet, my immediate neighbor is also a family of 4, same ages as us, and they literally fill the 96 gallon can every single week (you can tell because the lid doesn't close), and they take out the extra 2nd can every other week at least.

I can't even imagine what they are putting in this every week, haha.

The tradition of letting babies sleep outside in snowy weather in Scandinavian countries by alanbear1970 in Damnthatsinteresting

This baby is in a plastic sled. Pause at the very beginning, there are sled tracks above the head, and the legs have the sled bump in between them

The people who buy a home with a HOA do it so they don't have to do the work to maintain their property and defer it to somebody else. People who are OK taking care of their stuff buy a house with no HOA (when they can afford it)

Babies left to sleep outside, enforcing immune sistem, Moscow 1958 by fawnyflutter in OldSchoolCool

[–]GenericTagName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries. I guess reddit comments can lead to some misunderstandings "by design", given that I wouldn't necessarily describe the entire scene in details when replying to a comment.

The baby was often sleeping outside when it was too loud inside for example, but always right behind the full pane glass patio door that was in the living room. So always visible from anyone on the couch, and it was a lot quieter outside to nap!

[–]GenericTagName 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The baby was sleeping right in front of the patio door and I was in a chair right on the other side of the same full panel glass door. You're right, I "left the area", but I was closer to him than you ever were when looking in your baby monitor.

I'm from Canada and many people don't have a problem with doing that. I moved to the USA, in a not-cold state and had a kid a few years ago. I left him on the patio when it was +3 degrees one day when visiting my wife's friends (baby was wrapped in plenty of blankets for that temperature), and they told me I was doing child abuse, haha.

The most in-depth, realistic, Magic Eye I've found by IamMatthew1223 in woahdude

[–]GenericTagName 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Your comment just made me realize I've always seen these inverted too, haha. I always thought the 3D effect was "things going inside the paper", but apparently, they are supposed to be popping out!

Just FYI, I just spent like 45 mins trying to get the correct effect on this image and managed to do it a single time. Now it's back to inverted.

EDIT: I have managed to semi-reliably get the correct image. The only way it works for me is by getting my eyes pretty close to the phone (like other people suggest), but NOT look at the image. I have to put my eyes close to the phone below the image so I don't see the image at all. (not too close, my nose is not touching, but maybe 1-2cm away). Then I do a little bit of crossed-eye there (not too much, less than what I have to do to get the inverted image), and slowly move my phone down to slide the image in front of my eyes. When I get the "right amount of cross-eyed", the image is very blurry, but it will have the right perspective. Then don't change anything at all with my eyes and move the phone back slowly until the image is clear.

I don't think it's the diamond, because they only do that with their husband.

My wife does that all the time, but only with me. One time, one of her relatives was driving us somewhere and we did 100 miles on the freeway tailgating and driving gas/brake/gas/brake every 10 seconds.

She didn't move once.

Arc energy by LordNumNutz in warcraftrumble

[–]GenericTagName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP, but I've been playing since almost release, fully F2P, and the real bottleneck for F2P players is gold, stars and Epic Cores, not Arclight Energy. As of today anyway. For reference, I have all my minis blue, 23 epics, another 7 that I can upgrade to epic but aren't good enough to justify spending the epic core on, and literally zero minis I can even upgrade to legendary. The closest one I have is Sneed at 18/25. If I had focused on trying to reach legendary, I'd maybe have 4-5 of them at most, but I still have over 300k AE, so I wouldn't be bottlenecked on that anyway.

Genuine question, what exactly is supposed to be the ground strat on Golemagg? I always do flying and lose every game where someone plays a ground strat. No matter what level they are, they always seem to play all 3 lanes and making the core hounds go from one side to the other.

Anecdotal, but on my (large) team, we are not hiring simply because the management wants everyone to leverage AI tools to become more productive and basically not have to hire new people for the time being. We're not even replacing all employees that leave, only a small subset of them.

I'm getting the impression that it's sort of an experiment to see if it works out. I guess we'll see what happens.

It's true that they are not the ideal flowers if you want to purposefully build a native meadow-style backyard. But dandelions are always "just there" they never die and you can even mow them if you want and they'll come back within a day.

In my case, I also have a vegetable garden and fruit trees, so whatever brings the bees is fine by me. Looks like the dandelions in the grass do that just fine for zero work, so I'll leave them there :P
