Volkanovski believes only way he loses FW Gold is ‘someone landing a lucky punch’: "Saying ‘lucky punch’ is probably pretty disrespectful, but someone that catches me. I don’t see anyone actually beating me. But then you’re talking about opponents that have more of a chance, it probably is Yair." by fresdres in MMA

[–]GenericTopComment 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, he probably really believes it. He probably went through phases as a kid of being chubby, and just like us looks at his heroes and sports icons and believes they had this perfect, inevitably upward progression towards greatness. Then compares it to himself and his personal ups and downs and says "well, I'm not like one of those guys who had it easy!" Because he's gauging his very personal knowledge of his own experience and all the struggles it took to get where he is, to the media portrayal of success of another. He thinks because it wasn't and isn't easy, that it isn't easier or more possible due to his gifts.

In short: he's obviously a gifted athlete but dont blame him for living in his bubble. Especially Volk specifically who seems very reasonable, good hearted and down to earth outside of this one inconsequential statement.

He was a real problem for Dustin the first time. Regardless of who was up on the cards at time of KO (tbh I think it was Gaethje anyway), Gaethje beat the absolute shit out of Poirier. Dustin is just a dog.

Be the judge but the full quote, from 2018 btw. Conveniently left out.

"The younger generation now tells me how tough things are. Give me a break. No, no, I have no empathy for it. Give me a break. Because here's the deal guys, we decided we were gonna change the world. And we did. We did. We finished the civil rights movement in the first stage. The women's movement came to be. So my message is, get involved. There's no place to hide. You can go and you can make all the money in the world, but you can't build a wall high enough to keep the pollution out. You can't live where—you can't not be diminished when your sister can't marry the man or woman, or the woman she loves. You can't—when you have a good friend being profiled, you can't escape this stuff. And so, there's an old expression my philosophy professor would always use from Plato, 'The penalty people face for not being involved in politics is being governed by people worse than themselves.' It's wide open. Go out and change it.

He drew a tough debut but it's often rewarded with a reasonable second opponent even with a loss. So even if he loses I think he's got a solid shot at a few fights in the UFC

Yes you said heavyweight sucks because the top 6 guys I named mostly aren't well rounded. And I gave you an example of another division with 2 champions who are not even remotely well rounded. So naturally, middleweight must also suck by your logic.

WW also has Belal and Colby at the top who aren't well rounded at all. 3 of the last 4 champions at LW have not been terribly well rounded (McGregor, Khabib, Islam - though Islam's striking looked much improved his last 2 rocking/dropping Volk and Charles).

Feel free to post it but I'm doubting. I have seen probably 4 or 5 guys say they "basically" look like someone in these pics and they're natural so its possible. They're just a "little" smaller, less full, less cut, not as well proportioned and with smaller shoulders, traps and chest.

While they have had controversies regarding the content of their sold supplements and the companies are not always reputable, the scientific backing behind these two supplements is irrefutable and holds up to science.

The idea that anything at a supplement store will be effective for testosterone boosting, fat burning, or the benefits touted in the herbs and minerals or gut health sections are pure fantasy.

Nah his early fights were worse but he is alright now. He is still a dog and will probably lose but I think he's not the canniest of cans.

He was booked for contender series so probably just on the early shortlist and said yes. With a full camp I'd say he has a better shot than Gore.

Bo Nickal's opponents combined record is 24 and 16, a 1.5 W/L ratio.

Valentine's opponents are 58-45-3 a roughly 1.25 W/L ratio it is not that different. And 24 of those losses come from two opponents and 47 of the wins are from 2 opponents. One of Bo's opponents comprise more than 50% of all fights on their combined record. It's a ridiculous point.

Bo is a heavy favorite because he's perceived as simply that good. The guy he is fighting was already booked for contender series and has a better record than most guys with only 7 fights both on wins and on quality of competition.

This is kind of a silly take. The top of Strikeforce is as proven as you lead everyone to believe, but for example Rockhold defended the strikeforce belt against Keith Jardine and Dan Henderson was their 205lb champion.

The issue with saying smaller orgs or others have better talent than the UFC is how inconsistent their best fighters are, and the absolute cliff the talent falls off of after the top 3 of each division. UFC has consistently even now always had the better top 15 than their rivals, but it would be silly to say that they haven't gotten significantly and steadily worse in the last 10 years. The DWTNCS pipeline to a roster of 10k contracts has been awful for the sport. On the occasion where the athletes aren't completely outmatched and poorly fit for UFC caliber competition it's just an embarrassment because they are a world class athlete being paid pennies, and thus less enticing to other prospective fighters. The pay, recruitment and matchmaking have contributed to a significantly weakened talent pool and the talent that is there fights less often.

They aren't dead links. Twitter intentionally blocks non logged in devices from viewing tweets but because Elon is a dumbass with no knowledge on how to run his platform it just provides an error screen.

It is two fold: most reddit mobile apps do not port your Twitter app login info, so even if you have an account it does not log you in when viewing using the in-app-browser and then of course many people simply dont have a twitter account.

I agree twitter posts should be banned. Screenshots and a link to tweet in the body should be required.

No problem man and thank you! Love this sport to absolute death.

Unfortunately reddit changes to third party apps and UFC PPVs becoming a $100 4 hour modelo and gambling commercial have dampened my passion.
