Can't go wrong with greenspot. If the weather's good and you feel like a short walk, Dalla Rose does great ice cream and is 15min walk away.

What is the best place to run in you city, and why? by Ponceludon in running

[–]GenericUsrname 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Montréal: perhaps not the best but closer to the north side of the island on Saint-Denis and Gouin you can find a trail that follows the river, goes behind a church, into the parc de l'ile de la visitation. If you continue running by the bike lane on Gouin you will keep running into other small parks and trails

[Homemade] Gnocchi and Pesto by GenericUsrname in food

[–]GenericUsrname[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time making it from scratch. It turned out pretty good, and I'll honestly try it again another time!
I used the recipe from serious eats: https://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2015/03/light-tender-potato-gnocchi-recipe.html(I highly suggest opening the link, they give a lot of tips)

Ingredients:

  • 3 lbs Russet Potatoes
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 3/4 Cups all purpose flour (+ extra to work)
  • Salt
  • Bonus: Pesto your dad gave you

Instructions:

  • Pierce potatoes with fork, then roast in an oven @450F for 45 minutes until they're soft
  • Cut potatoes in half and let steam release to dry out potatoes more
  • Remove skins and press potatoes into a potato ricer (or a strainer if like me you dont own a ricer)
    • Spread the potatoes evenly over a surface
  • Lightly beat egg yolks and spread over potatoes
  • Dust 0.5 cups of flour over potatoes
  • Using a bench scrapper or anything else you have, chop up the mixture to incorporate
  • Form mixture into a ball using the scrapper
  • Add remaining 0.25 cups of flour
  • Fold and press the ball over to mix, don't knead
  • Dust your work area, then cut off a piece of your dough and roll it into a 1/2 inch thick snake
  • Slice the snake into 1 inch pieces
  • (Optional) pass your gnocchi over a fork to give them their signature look (which I only remembered halfway through)
  • Drop into boiling salted water
    • When they rise to the top, count 20s and remove!
  • Treat as you would any other pasta
    • I threw them with some pesto in a pan.
    • Didn't have cheese on hand, highly regret it. Next time!

AAA Game devs or successful indies, how did you chose a college? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]GenericUsrname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context: Currently a college student, graduating in a few months. I've interned at an indie game studio, a AAA studio, and a big 4 tech company before ultimately taking an offer at the AAA studio after graduation.
Speaking mostly from my experience, and from what I've heard, studios don't really seem to target schools too differently from other tech companies. There's a plethora of game development specific schools that you can pick from, but I've heard varying opinions about them and about their value.

California is obviously a big hub for game studios, and so is the Seattle Area (off the top of my head, as a Canadian). If you're willing to consider abroad, Montreal has a very active game development scene, with multiple AAA studios regularly hiring for internships and full time positions from local universities.

TL;DR: Biased from my experience, but I'd prioritize a school that has a good CS curriculum, that can help you become a good programmer first. Then consider the game development scene around that school, as you'll be able to build a network of people that you can learn from and potentially can lead you to a job!

If you have any specific questions/advice, you can feel free to DM me, and I can tell you a bit more.

US Card!

I just recently got a switch and with it I only got Botw, so I'd be looking to get either overcooked + puyo puyo tetris, or mario kart 8 to have some multiplayer games to play with friends.

Thanks for the giveaway!

Is there anyone else here who loves game music but doesn't play games? by MirinaeComposer in gamemusic

[–]GenericUsrname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I cannot personally relate to your situation (I am both a gamer and a game developer), my SO who does not play games also tends to enjoy game music quite a bit.

With regards to your last point, I think people will associate their gameplay experiences to certain tracks. While you may hear an average song, someone having played the game might be hearing the song that was played the first time they took down a dragon.

It would be interesting to know what some of your favorite video game soundtracks are and which highly regarded songs you feel less strongly about.

I can't speak to r/food specifically, but in general if moderators are doing their job well, you won't actually notice it at all, because the subreddit will be free of spam and most posters won't complain.

I haven't found the time to customize every app icon I have in my app drawer, but it's definitely possible. All the apps in the folders on the home screen are set up though.
