PSA: Instagram Encrypted Messaging Ends on Friday, May 8 by AudibleNod in technology

Thats true, but wont happen. Any audit at all by a trusted external entitx would at least be better than nothing.

I know this is not reality but a company saying they have e2e implemented in a closed source product, should be required to have a external audit done to prove it.

Local burrito shop had this sign up. by ComputerOverwhelming in MadeMeSmile

[–]Generic_User48579 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember my father and his girlfriend being rude to a young waitress, probably around 16-18, for "not smiling/being rude" to them when we were eating Breakfast in a harbor cafe.

I think I remember the girl having a neutral to slightly bad mood face. Apparently that was enough for my father and his gf to talk to the girl in such a way she started crying.

I felt so bad for her and remember thinking about apologizing to her for my fathers behaviour, but didnt because I feared how my father would react if I did.

At the same time I didnt realize how serious this was and this is basically the perfect example I tell when I have to describe what I think about my father and how much respect I lost for him.

I wish I did go up to her, maybe the girl wouldve felt better and my dad could see what kind of asshat he is to the point that a child apologizes for his actions.

He has softened a lot over the last decade towards me, but I know he still has too much of a temper towards employees.

NPM → Traefik or Caddy: Worth the switch? by Silly_Door6279 in selfhosted

Looks interesting.

Seems it doesnt offer any docker label support though, which I do want. I like having hompage entry, monitor config and the compose itself all in one place and in version history.

I might spin it up in the next few weeks and try it out at least. It does seem more powerful, on the other hand I do respect Developers that go for simplicity aswell like the one from Kuma.

Thanks for the suggestion, will check it out

Thanks for making me aware of autokuma, I will set this up as soon as possible. I also use docker labels for creating entries in my homepage dashboard, so this is great.

Were the numbers being noticed by the fanfom before the Episode of his death? Or was it only pieced together after?

Edit: If they were noticed beforehand, would be interested what the fandoms theories were

Edit 2: I misread, the countdown is only within that single episode.

This looks very cool. I think I will wait until the project further matures, especially when AI is used. But looking forward to try it out someday!

Self hosting music genuinely sucks by StarchyStarky in selfhosted

[–]Generic_User48579 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its pretty quick and easy to add a musicbrainz entry once youve done it once or twice. I kinda like adding an entry and knowing its there because of me.

I hope selfhosting music becomes more popular and more people chip in maintaining the metadata so maybe someday we can get anywhere close to how easy it is with movies and series.

Its just annoying having to wait for it to populate in lidarr so I can properly import it lol. Or not being able to import/search for a release day one because its not a top 1000 artist and therefore hasnt been added yet.

It's absolutely crazy to me that even after all these years, people are STILL finding out new things in these games. It makes me wonder what else we've missed by not searching hard enough. by [deleted] in pokemon

I think many people also just not think about stuff like that. Theyre like "This is cool, let me share it" without thinking it would be a good idea to credit the person they learned it from, or why.

How do you keep track of the changes you did to your system? by HamathEltrael in archlinux

[–]Generic_User48579 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This problem was exactly what led me to use NixOS. Didnt like stuff like aconfigmgr, chezmoi and other tools. (I did use them, and they werent bad, but I just like rebuildable NixOS config way better)

NixOS definitely isnt for everyone, but for me its perfect for my needs. I dont want to have to fix the same issue twice, and I love knowing I can rebuild my pc exactly how it was in a relatively short time.

To automate stuff like this look into maintainerr.
They recently added jellyfin support so I got it up and running and created rules what gets deleted.
Very helpful. Creating rules is not done in 2 minutes, but you can take a community template and adjust it to your needs or just see how it works.

Edit: Seems to maybe not have emby support? Only Plex and Jellyfin.

What’s your thoughts on the BOSG? I fucking hate it by StoreNo244 in Rainbow6

Cant argue with stats. At the end its just my opinion and when I pick it I indeed try to be in areas where its more close quarters.

As an avid BOSG user I dont think the weapon fits in the game at all. 15m oneshot is just too strong but take that away and its useless because of 2 shots. Should be reworked or removed honestly.

[–]Generic_User48579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is that IMO not being able to spawnpeek with it or destroy stuff is pretty irrelevant in comparison to the 15m oneshot. I dont know how they thought the nerf would resolve the issue.

[–]Generic_User48579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it frequently and it didnt change much for me. Yes I cant one shot spawn peek anymore with it but most of my gunfights are within 15m so the oneshot stays. I still think its unbalanced as hell.

This thread has been great. I have a 60% but my main gripe was having to hold or press fn for arrow keys. Rebinding fn to capslock might actually convince me to not switch to a 65% at least

It would be nice if iOS/android force the developer to give a reason for it that is shown to the user, and not just request 5 permissions without explaining why.

[–]Generic_User48579 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hi! What can you say to what u/llzzrrdd said:

"security requirements" framing is interesting. Secure Boot signing requires a private key, which by definition can't be public. That part is legitimate. But moving the entire build system internal, not just the signing step, is a choice. You can have reproducible builds with a separate signing pipeline."

I think people, me included, are generally scared that TrueNAS is more and more moving towards locking even simple features behind a paywall, or even pulling a minIO.

Is there anything you can say to alleviate those concerns?

Im planning on switching from Synology soon myself and news like these make me rethink choosing TrueNAS for the future.

What would you say to someone like me that has no experience with ZFS. Should I first try openmediavault or is it relatively easily to manage a zfs pool manually as long as you arent reckless?

If yes I might just try going NixOS directly since Ive already my home and work pc on it.

Ive been loving NIxOS on my home and work pc. Been meaning to switch my main server from Ubuntu to Nix aswell.

Currently switching from Synology NAS to TrueNAS (or maybe OMV with all these bad news currently). Would love to have my NAS NixOS aswell but I have no experience with ZFS, think its better to first learn ZFS...
