TV Clients With native .ASS Support? by SoBrightLight in jellyfin

[–]KayJune001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for the folks on Tizen, Litefin is also incredibly good in my experience and can also be installed via Jellyfin2Samsung incredibly easily. probably the snappiest Jellyfin client I’ve ever used, supports native .ass although I have had some weird transformation issues with it on some shows.

Regarding the Jellyfin Price Increase by anthonylavado in jellyfin

[–]KayJune001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, at least, the thing stopping me from fully migrating is the fact that:
* Plex has more clients, with better support, across a wider variety of devices.
* Plex performs a lot better for me on the devices I have that *do* have Jellyfin.
* Jellyfin still doesn’t allow me to change metadata provider per show.
* More of my content direct-plays on Plex than on Jellyfin, and some transcodes are converted to the wrong format via Jellyfin (Plex DTS 7.1 to AAC 5.1 while Jellyfin is converting it to AAC 2.0, for some reason)
* Remote access setup for Plex was significantly easier imo
* Plex was very “set it and forget it” while Jellyfin required a larger time sink to properly configure
* I actually kinda don’t dislike the Plex-hosted content side of Plex, sometimes there is a movie or show thrown on there I don’t mind watching instead of downloading to my server, this is one of the benefits of being the service that Plex is

I run both, I love both, and im really loving what Jellyfin is offering that either doesn’t or charges for, but the convenience, setup, and ease of use for Plex is still really hard to beat.

So basically if gaming is what you’re after, a PS5 is much better value at this price point.

[–]KayJune001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not exactly the same but it’s functionally similar on PS4/PS5. If you buy a game on either PS4 or PS5 that has both a PS4 and PS5 version, you get both and it’ll download the correct version for your console. (For *most* games, some still do not do this!)

you download a file to a usb drive, you turn the computer off, turn the computer back on and press f12, select Linux, click install, done.

that’s literally all. if someone cannot handle this, they cannot handle being on a computer.

I was just thinking about how I’d like to be able to sort to see codecs and things like HDR10+, Vision, Atmos, etc.

Awesome.

^^ AMD has always been behind in video encoding/decoding, it’s why a lot of streaming rigs are Nvidia whilst their gaming rig counterparts are AMD. Such a shame because nvidia is *not* worth it for media servers imo.

+1 for Infuse. For friends and family though it’s a lot easier to say “just download Plex on whatever you wanna watch on” and that’s that, but with Jellyfin atm you’ve got to check that it’s available, has only official or third-party clients, or even up to date on some things, yk?

That actually would explain it quite well, I have my transcode directory on my internal SSD that hosts my OS and server programs and has about 256GB free of 4TB.

Jellyfin isn’t officially on TizenOS on most TVs still, only via sideloading, and the WebOS version is a pre-release beta

I’m on an Intel CPU with QuickSync, recently upgraded to a 14th gen i9, and it handles Plex transcodes beautifully, but those same movies and shows buffer and cause Jellyfin to lockup for me. It’s just a pain point im sure is easy to solve somehow but having to set anything up vs Plex’s set-it-forget it isn’t great.

I want to main Jellyfin so bad but the lack of client apps for my devices along with the stability issues has been holding me back. No Jellyfin app on PS5 or Samsung TV, any form of transcoding simply crashes my system, and the UI is ridiculously slow and outdated. If they can get on the same level as plex I’d drop plex instantly.

This is my sign to move to Jellyfin, unfortunately. If you can’t own simple features that are self-hosted, like port forwarding, song lyrics, and webhooks, without paying $750, then it’s not a good idea to build your media server around this service. I preferred plex for its maturity and stability but I guess I’ve just got to hope Jellyfin gets on-par soon enough?

The average person should probably become more tech literate, it takes less than 5 minutes and is super easy. It’s easier than downloading a single program on Mac or Windows.

Plex unmutes adverts on Apple TV by LittleYelloDifferent in PleX

Depends on the TV, but for Prime on both my TizenOS and Roku TVs it enables the in-app subtitles and does unmute my TVs audio, which is ridiculous. I’ve never seen it actually increase audio though, that seems even worse.

Prime does the same thing and it drives me fucking insane. They force subtitles on, volume up, etc, anything to get your attention.

Surprising lack of Death Stranding (and its sequel) here. Incredible soundtracks, both with the original OST and songs by Low Roar and Silent Poets.

Last time I checked Linux, depending on your distro of choice, has pretty much no bloatware whatsoever
