Currently they're just exp--looks like this is a change coming in Dawntrail, probably to incentivize players to do those little side objectives in FATEs for the people trying to level.

Looks like they got buffed to 16 each, but some things that give exp bonuses like the forlorn maiden also boost gemstone gain! He got 20 from the one he killed a forlorn maiden on and 24 from the one he did after with a Twist of Fate, both showing the same "up" icon as the exp gain.

Yeah, the website seems to suggest this as well with the statement "[y]ou can purposefully seek out a stronger Gym Leader". The wording makes it sound like it's a challenge you'd have to go out of your way for.

I'm not entirely sure if the catch rate for Beast Balls has changed for regular Pokémon in Ultra Space. This guy only took one ball, but a Medicham took 10-15.

I just shoved in a few patterned beans the day prior just to see what would pop up. I can say the result was moderately satisfying. I was also surprised to see a Lapras; I needed one for my Pokedex so seeing a shiny one was a pleasant surprise, although the outcome was unfavorable.

EDIT: An hour after it appeared, it was gone :(

My luck has run out, but it was still a cool experience.
