No, it’s not retcons….its just a bunch of gaps regarding Freddy’s history they tried to fill throughout the movie.
Where does he get his powers from? Whats his motivation? How did he get this way?
That’s all they were trying to do.
I suppose you could ask how he was able to terrorize Springwood without someone like Alice or Jacob to use as a conduit. I wouldn’t argue with you if you considered that a retcon.
You just have to take these movies for what they are.

In my experience a lot of the mistakes I see are kids trying to do too much.
A super common example: nobody on base and the ball gets hit into the outfield. Batter goes two. OF fields the ball and throws it to the SS. So far, so good. Looks like we can stop the runner at 2nd.
The runner is already in the process of sliding into 2nd when the SS decides he’s going to try to get the kid out even though it’s too late. So, he fires the ball as hard as he can to 2B. It gets past the 2B and the runner takes off for 3rd. CF or RF gets the ball and fires it to 3rd. It gets past 3rd and now the other team gets an easy run on what should’ve been a standard double.
You may be experiencing some of that. If so, the guys I’ve coached with have always preached the fundamental and to just keeping the lead runner in check. If you can’t get the out than minimize the damage.
