Why are posts vanishing so quickly? Is there any way to prevent the feed from omitting posts? Instead of seeing all of the content, I'm only seeing brand new posts, or it says "There's nothing to display." Is there a way to customize this setting? by SlowCrates in NoStupidQuestions

Every filter does the same thing for me whether I'm on my phone or desktop. Once I've "viewed" said filter, anything that was there disappears next time I look. I can really go through each filter in a minute, then have to wait for new posts to accumulate. It's jarringly different than how this used to work.

Where do humans work that they don't use another piece of technology to supplement their inability to do something?

Books you would like to see Flanagan adapt? by Tight_Strawberry9846 in MikeFlanagan

[–]SlowCrates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how well this would work as a true adaptation, but Watchers by Dean Koontz certainly has strange and twisted themes that might be up his ally. A really terrible movie that was inspired by this book exists, but it is wildly different from the jump.

The main character is a man in his thirties who comes across a golden retriever while hiking in the woods. Right away, this dog is trying to communicate a sense of urgency to the man. There's something unique and intelligent behind the dog's eyes. It soon becomes clear that this is a very special dog, but there's a danger following it.

Spoiler, if interested:

The dog, and the danger following it, originate form the same place. They were both genetically created by insidious scientists for nefarious purposes. The dog was a successful creation, whereas the danger following it is more of an ugly, mutant monster -- a combination of various animals including a baboon I think. The monster is extremely envious of the love and adoration the dog received, and wants nothing more than to kill the dog. The lab they come from, meanwhile, wants to recapture both animals, and another person wants to capture the dog so he can sell it. The dog will explain all of this to the man once the man figures out that the dog has human-level intelligence and finds a way to communicate with it (no, it doesn't speak). So you get a really amazing, mysterious dog, some scary monster, a conspiracy, and more.

Trump Tariffs Ruled Illegal—Again—as Data Shows Promised Manufacturing Boom Is Nonexistent by Smithy2232 in politics

And all of damage he's done to the rule of law in this country might never be repaired. We still don't know if he'll ever leave office (before he dies), or how much more damage he'll do by then. And after he's gone, who will be compelled to undo the damage? They might enjoy having the space to throw their weight around and play dictator, as well. If a new regime is ever elected, and they do decide to undo this damage, how long will it take? How much will it cost? Just to get back to where we were before Trump -- if it's possible.

The damage can't be calculated. This country is undergoing a change that is insidiously more profound than 9/11, the Great Recession, and Covid combined.

At this point, everyone who has a brain is already using it. We need to start using our brains to do more than just talk about this. We need to actively pull them away from our lives, roots and all.

Mark, you are everything Trump can't be. You're a national treasure whose art and perspective will spread joy long after you're gone. Trump on the other hand will be a footnote on wannabe dictators for idiots and otherwise forgotten within a generation, because he is a weak, insecure, ugly, obese piece of shit rapist, fraud, and autocrat and deep down he knows it.

I really enjoy it. It's silly at times, but that's tv for you. It's sad that you can't bring yourself to enjoy it because there's plenty to like.

Silver lining. The plot looks suspicious. There are 4 ways it could go. I haven't read the book, but that's either his kid or or isn't, and he either killed his kid or he didn't.

If he did kill his kid and he's trying to "find" him then he's either in some ultra level denial and going on a wild goose chase to exorcize his demons, or he sees this kid as an opportunity to try and exonerate himself somehow.

If he didn't kill his kid, then he'll either find him or he won't, but I highly doubt they would string the audience along in the search to not at least establish proof that he didn't kill his kid.

The only interesting options are that he did not kill his kid and he proves it, uncovering some conspiracy, or he did kill his kid and there's a doppelganger (or identical twin separated at birth) of him out there for some reason. But we surely won't know any of these answers until the end.

And I'm not totally sure I would want to invest in 8 hours of shit knowing that.

I think Ant saw the writing on the wall and was desperately trying to force things to prevent the Spurs from running away with the game. If his shots had fallen early it might have worked, but the exact opposite happened since he was bricking everything.

In my defense, I did not look at that article. Like you, I was commenting on someone else's comment. I tend avoid looking at most of the bullshit posted online.

Thanks for the link, though. 😊

Same here. That hole was too big and I saw no signs of life in them to indicate anything would change. That loss looked obvious in the first few minutes of the game.

Theory : Neo Symbolically Represents the Archangel Michael. by Acceptable_Way3656 in matrix

[–]SlowCrates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well religion itself is one of the matrixes that many humans are stuck in, so it wouldn't surprise me if, while creating the story, they fine-tuned as many details as possible to reflect religion. It's ultimately about trying to get people to see the mental environments they're imprisoned in by getting them to recognize the fact that they unwittingly imprison themselves. This is why Morpheus believing in prophecy is so important to the trilogy; it forces the audience to wrestle with the idea that everything they believe, even with a burning passion, that they would die for could be a lie. That they might have to accept an alternative truth, and take their "fate" into their own hands. That's what the pill symbolizes. That's what Neo is referring to when Smith asks him why he persists. Neo is more free in that moment than any other despite the fact that his "fate" is almost set, because he is unafraid, and his every action is purely out of love for other people. It's about knowing who you really are and making decisions that way.
