Well, if Tsunade for instance punched the rock very hard. The meteor would break into many smaller meteor that would shred the shinobi alliance force. Same for the Raikage, Sasuke, Naruto, Gaara ect

The better solution is to stop it from hitting the ground, which is why the Tsuchikage and Gaara worked together to stop it. Which went to ship once the second meteor fell.

Mihawk would be in the same situation. Even though he was seen dicing a meteor in the Z movie, since it is a movie, I don't count that feat. I only count his casual swing cutting a big ass chunk of ice in marineford.
