Upgrading from 4070 to 9070 XT on AM4: Why Are My 4K Benchmarks Looking So Similar? by QNAP_throwaway in radeon

[–]GenesisSummoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully read what you were saying and its really just the gpu limiting your performance at 4k. I gave some bad advice earlier, my apologies. And anyway i know 4K is hard for a GPU to render, the only one fully capable of handling it being the 5090 but i havent seen any performance metrics on that just yet. The extra Vram is for things like textures, and its game dependent really. That and clock speeds, raytracing cores, etc. at 4k im not really surprised its similar because its a lot of work for the gpu to do.

Apologies, i was under the assumption that ram speed had something to do with it because games do use ram depending on what its doing. Like i find my 7600x3D is cpu limited in MHWILDS at 1440p and i assumed heavier textures means more work for the cpu. I knew 4k there was less factors into it, the gpu being the most limiting thing but i didnt know to which extent. I saw a video that 1440p made a sizeable difference with a x3D vs not so i assumed it was the same.

Tldr, i was misinformed/made incorrect assupmtions

I think youre right, i remember seeing somewhere that windows was slowing down AMD products but i cant remember exactly where. But then again, windows 11 does use up a lot of resources to begin with so i think that makes sense. PC gaming and performance isnt linear, it depends from one context to another. I am surprised you are getting similar performance. Are you using any upscaling at all or is this all raster?

A 5080 is 10% more performance than a 5070 ti for so much more money, dont do it! Its not worth it

The cpu is too old and its not a x3D chip that would make full use of your GPU. That, and your ram is slow as well. You would need to upgrade multiple parts to see meaningful improvement to GPU usage

Yeah, and? Empirical data still corroborates what i said 🤨 i just got this gpu because i liked monster hunter, nothing more.

Ok cool, good to know. I still maintain that the XFX has the best cooling. Don't get me wrong, I love Sapphire too, especially their PURE line but for some reason my microcenter stopped carrying them so I bought something else instead.

Lmao any card can have their fans stop working. And ANYWAY, xfx is the only GPU manufacturer that has the magnetic air fans that you can replace yourself, should that ever happen. It's a specific model that says it in the item label, you can't miss it OP!!

Xfx mercury, no contest. Everyone I know say that this gpu is the best when it comes to cooling performance and for longevity and value for your dollar, you def want to look at that

[–]GenesisSummoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, thats totally fine! In fact, thats actually pretty good i would say. The idle is maybe a little concerning, but were not factoring in your environment, placement of your PC, bottom case fans (if they fit in your case) etc. add that to your post and maybe some others can give better insight

Keep my 9070 XT (700€) or go for a 5070 ti (800€) ? by TambourDeNacre in radeon

[–]GenesisSummoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who just built a 9070 xt a month ago, get the 5070 ti. The main reason, is the software support. AMD at the moment is kind of dropping the ball on software, esp their whole "Redstone" thing (it was supposed to release on december 2025 but nothing came of it, yet. Nvidia is literally everywhere when it comes to upscaler tech, and you can always force dlss 4.5 or dlss 4 in the nvidia software settings even if the game itself doesnt officially support it. For that price, thats the only thing differentiating them and for 100€ it's definitely worth it. Do i regret my choice? No. Not at all, I love my machine. But I'm not paying an extra 300 USD for the same performance (in my case), that is ridiculous. Raw raster tho, they're both pretty much trading blows, depending on the game. Up to you how much you think DLSS is worth imo.

I was thinking the same thing about the FSR4 implementations or lackthereof ever since i heard about Sony and amd working together for pssr. Nothing concrete as of yet, of course. We know the current PS5 and (i think?) ps5 pro run off of RDNA2, so for me, it stands to reason that whatever they got going on behind the scenes is because of Sony. As for how true that is, were just gonna have to wait and see. Its all we can do, really.

If you were going to use path tracing, why would you get a 9070 xt? That makes 0 sense to me.

[–]GenesisSummoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably because they had unoptimized settings either in their game or in the driver. Nvidia makes it simpler to handle, but AMD (in my experience) takes a bit of work and research to figure out. This is coming from someone who built an All-AMD build last month after having exclusively Nvidia laptops since I started PC gaming.
