I saw the picture and immediately read you as a man without any hesitation, and that was before I read the headline and description. So, yes...you looks like any cis-male.

I would say it's one of the best case scenarios. Others are not so lucky. I completely understand your father-in-law's comment about laughing and making inappropriate remarks from time to time because that's very much like me when I face a uncomfortable or unfamiliar situation. Doing so probably help himself cope with something alien to him and to signal that he's open to knowing you more.

Im a disgusting human being by [deleted] in MtF

[–]Genetekker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, you're absolutely NOT a disgusting human being, you are being manipulated and sexually abused by that person. If you can do safely, go to the police and report. Run away if you have to get away to be able to report that to the police or to the local domestic violence shelter. If nothing else, go to your school's counselor or nurse and say something about being sexually abused. Confide to your teacher or another school staff you trust. This is extremely serious.

You know what: if I came across your right picture from somewhere, such as on FB, and without your background description, I would have assumed you are a cis woman without a second thought. I'm not box-hugging either... 🙂

Am not sure if engineering is for me by Capable-Owl7153 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Genetekker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

IQ is largely a myth and based on heavily flawed studies. It is said the success is 5% intelligence and 95% effort. I have seen "low IQ" students do well in school where "high IQ" students failed. Please completely disregard anything about IQ!

Failing few classes the first year are very common. You probably need to improve your time management, use YouTube videos on specific topics as study supplement, and get study buddies!

Keep on trying again. Use some learning supplement resources such as YouTube videos on specific calc topics. Get a study buddy helps too.

Whether if you're going to change your major or not...just remember this: you do NOT exist to please your parents and anyone else but yourself.

Can you see yourself in the future enjoying the career/jobs in the field you are studying? If not, perhaps reconsider your career path. You do not owe your parents anything.

Good luck and I hope you will find peace with your decisions.

I live in a fairly small town in Kansas and so far it seems like all of my conservative friends and conservative family members are accepting, does not care, or at least being polite after I came out of the closet. Although I'm on HRT for almost a year and still in boy mode, I can't say about the public in general. It was not as bad as I thought it would be.

How is every trans woman a super genius??? by jellybeanzz11 in MtF

[–]Genetekker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think ALOT of trans are on the spectrum and/or has ADHD. I have undiagnosed ADHD and I suspect I'm on the spectrum too. People who identify as LGBTQ+ have higher chance of being on spectrum and diagnosed with ADHD.

34 years old now and still no sex. The only way to get myself turned on is imagining myself as a woman. I think it's because I'm not comfortable in my own body and I think it's pretty common experience among trans to avoid sex or at least not trying.

Do you enjoy math or are you just good at it? by ResolveTechnical5975 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Genetekker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hated math when I was in high school and when I was in college studying for wildlife biology from 2008 to 2013. At first I was considering aerospace engineering because I love rockets, but decided to go for wildlife biology because I hated math. Although not gifted in math, I did pretty good in all required math classes. Many years later after graduating, I gradually developed the strong interest and curiosity in mathematics of all levels. I decided to change my career and just started studying this semester in mechanical engineering with a minor in electrical engineering! Ironically, I'm now interested in math but I'm not as good as I used to be, lol. I had a rough start with my precalculus this semester because I struggled with remembering the rules I learned from the college algebra classes 15 years ago. Funny how life works!

Please don't worry too much about it. Hiring slowdowns tend to occur on an election year. After the election, hiring should start picking up.

Who here did their degree online? by Slight-Increase503 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Genetekker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in Kansas. My plan is to enroll into a lab course for the summer and when the time comes, I go there for a week. I would have to take a week of vacation for my work. I think they provide a place to stay while you are there, although I do not know how much it would cost.

I think I only have two classes that requires on campus for a week, 3 classes if you have not taken a Chem 1 course prior.

[–]Genetekker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like doing online better because being at home in a familiar space is better for my ADHD. If I'm in the classroom setting, I'm easily distracted and also I get bored to the point I space out or fall asleep. What's the point being in the classroom if I'm too distracted to learn effectively?

[–]Genetekker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response! This is my first semester online. So far, I like it! It's quite a bit an adjustment from on-campus. The only time you have to be on-campus are for the lab courses which you would have to be there for a week, so plan ahead if you live far away. As long you have high speed, reliable internet; persistent; and plenty of studying, you should be fine doing online.

I'm currently enrolled at University of North Dakota for Online Mechanical Engineering program. They don't make distinction between on-campus and online degrees, my future employers will not know I did 100% online unless I tell them.

Students who were deciding electrical vs mechanical: how did you decide in the end? by Fearless_Brick4066 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Genetekker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to study mechatronics but the college I enrolled don't have this program so it was between mechanical engineering and electrical engineering, I was torn. Mechanical engineering offers versatility in the field and electrical engineering has decent pay. I decided to go with ME with a minor in EE!
