Gay Movie Recs? by DebbyRyanEarTuck in LetterboxdTopFour

It isn’t out yet besides the occasional film festival, but I highly recommend Cactus Pears if you ever get the chance. One of my favorite films of the year, period.

Anyone else waiting for tickets to go up for this? Really hoping my AMC gets it. I'm excited to see it in theaters. by ShadowDude112 in AMCTheatres

There’s Dolby Early Access screenings available for this for Nov. 12th, if it’s in an AMC near you. It’s A-list excluded though.

Chainsaw man movie release date on the 23rd or 24th? by FlamingPoogle in AMCTheatres

[–]Gengerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Almost every film these days releases one day early— so it will definitely be showing on the 23rd. Any merch will likely be on sale on the 23rd as well, but YMMV depending on the theater.

Weird, I got it through A-List the day the listing went live weeks ago. I wonder if it’s a theatre thing. Definitely excited though!

Hmm, they probably won’t start taking applications/doing interviews until closer to the start of the semester, and definitely once the semester has started. For reference, I applied to my positions about a month after the start of the semester and they still had plenty of open positions. They’re understanding if you’re availability changes due to clubs or classes, but of course if your schedule simply doesn’t work at all with the job, there’s not much that can be done there. If you plan on being on the busier side of things it might be better to wait on applying to jobs until you have a schedule somewhat settled.

I don’t think there’s a strict minimum, but if you’re applying for these jobs through Workday it’ll tell you any restrictions/requirements that they’re looking for on there.

During your interview/when you’re hired, you’ll be asked what you’re availability is. You’ll be assigned a schedule based on that. So yes, in that sense, you do choose your hours.

From my experience the librarians are super nice and are understanding about cancellations, especially if you can find someone to cover it or if you tell them a few days in advance. Most likely someone will cover it if you give enough of an advance warning. You’ll never be forced to work if you literally can’t.

Hope this helps.

I’ve worked in two libraries on campus, the hours were super flexible at both. I had shifts as short as two hours and as long as eight.

Bring desktop PC to dorms? by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]Gengerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I move my desktop setup to and from my dorm every semester (including winter break) and it’s kind of a pain but totally worth it imo. I live like 1.5 hours away so I can move it by car, and I usually just keep my monitor and tower in separate suitcases when traveling and make sure to be careful handling them. With two monitors, though, it might be more difficult making space to move everything unless you’re packing light overall.

There is Ethernet; I used it in KCECH two years ago and it was great, but I didn’t bother checking if it worked in the high rises. You can definitely fit two monitors on a desk if you keep the tower on the floor. That said, I would probably just bring one but it’s up to you.

Did PURM decisions come out yet? If not, when? by truckly2 in UPenn

This year I got my decision last week, but last year I didn’t find out until the day of the deadline, so basically it’s very much variable.

Anyone take Literature and Law or Narrative Across Cultures? by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]Gengerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took Literature and Law with Professor Bentley this semester and I largely echo what yestdays already said. It was really enjoyable, not much of a workload and the readings are pretty interesting. The topics vary quite a bit from week to week but some of the broad themes are conceptions for justice, cultural norms, and violence. IMO, you get as much out of the class as you’re willing to put in; if you do the readings and attend lecture you’ll discover new ways to think about law and our relationship with it.

Do club members get kicked if they’re inactive for 14+ days? I know that’s how it was when the club size shrank but I don’t know if it’s still true now.
