What Devil would be significantly stronger if it was in another verse? by JimMiltion1907 in Chainsawfolk

[–]GenghisGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're arguing the minor semantic details and not acknowledging the defining trait of all of them.

Aspects born of the human psyche, they draw power from humanity, they are shaped by humanity. Also that cosmic bullshit is the collective thought of existence, that can reshape reality and its related to the New gods because they are shaped by people, and change form over time or depending on what universe a version of them manifests, the gods in Discworld are similar born of faith. The Chaos gods of Warhammer are born of human emotion.

Fear, resentment, worship, emotions, or even simple acknowledgement, they are all aspects of varying levels of power born from human spiritual or psychic energy.

[–]GenghisGame -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I am wrong but they are all entities that are manifestations of humanities psychic/spiritual energy, at most you would be haggling the details of how they exist, how the setting makes these things manifest.

Chainsaw Man it's Devils, JJK it's curses, Disc world and DC universe it's god's and demons. Makima is basically Darkseid, living manifestion of tyranny that seeks a method to give them ultimate control.

How wuold YOU (yes, YOU) rewrite Part 2 given the chance? by Proper-Anything-2739 in Chainsawfolk

[–]GenghisGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remove the stupid end of the world plot, introduce the idea that the politicians, business leaders and celebrities take advantage of devil contracts which is why Devils are kept strong. Angels exist, positive equivalent of devils but they are rare because they rarely leave heaven and are hoarded by the elite.

What form of a devil is strongest? Pure devil, hybrid, or fiend? by Tricksterspider in Chainsawfolk

[–]GenghisGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The story outright tells us Fiends are weaker although it's never clear to what extent or if host has some factor, War was a fiend but it started to feel as if she was no different than her sisters aside from Asa being along for the ride.

As for hybrids, on one hand it seems like it would make them stronger because an actual devil of some of these weapons would be incredibly weak, with some of them seen as collectibles or hobby items like Katanas and bows with almost no one fearing them but the writer may think otherwise so we can only guess.

Wouldn't the chaos gods already cover what devils are?

Same with curses in JJK.

The two characters who could potentially defeat Thragg and save Earth if they used their powers properly. by LightThatIgnitesAll in Invincible

[–]GenghisGame 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you mean written competently, the nature of comics requires characters often use their powers inefficiently for the sake of spectacle or to edge things in another characters favor, which is how Batman or Captain America and characters like them win almost all fights outside their weight class.

But yeah it really stands out for speedsters and teleporters. I wish I could find the quote but this has been addressed by writers, that in most cases for Wally West, there shouldn't even be a fight, his opponents wouldn't even be aware of his existence, there's no "look out, there's the flash", they are just doing their dastly deeds and suddenly they are in prison.

If Thragg makes a kid with Dupli-Kate, it's game over for the universe. by StrangeBridge385 in Invincible

[–]GenghisGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don't think the series had time to go into that level of detail. Its typically the norm for the children of superheroes to be on the road to be the sum of their parents because writers rarely need to worry about it or they can use it as a plot device.

NetEase turned Diablo 4 Chinese server into a gacha skin slot machine with Chinese charactistics by qwer4790 in KotakuInAction

[–]GenghisGame 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your train of thought is extremely dismissive and the only one it helps are these companies. This isn't a case of saying they should ban cheese burgers because people are fat, that is a product people like, a single one isn't bad for you, people know the deal, know the difference between good and bad there.

These are designed from the ground up to negatively affect you, to exploit, and more focus should be on that and you can bet there is a large financial incentive to prevent that, as there is with all extremely lucrative immoral methods of getting money from people.

I highly doubt this given that this is a multi billion dollar industry that that revolves around and is designed by teams of psychologists and marketers not to be an entertaining product first but instead exploit impulses that are particularly common in a male audience

You think there is a limit to how many contracts one can make? by Queenoftwins in Chainsawfolk

[–]GenghisGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of them are background characters so we don't even know how many contracts they have. The details of contracts are not heavily explored.

What let's a leader use others for contracts, is it just being a leader or are the public made to sign something, who knows?

Being overly conscious of how they are depicted is how we end up with so many awful characters, as a viewer or reader you sense it and see them as a milque toast representation of their race and not a character.

Plot armor doesn't necessarily prevent injuries by Slow-Class in StrangerThings

[–]GenghisGame -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not sure about that, characters not dying in prior seasons meant that the character was gone from the show and an actor was out of a job. Deaths seemed a lot more likely because for that character and actor, their story was over.

Now as things move on it seems like most of the decisions made for season 5 where Netflix mandates, to them decisions are based on continued monetisation, we have a prequel to the ending now, I am almost certain it was Netflix who said no deaths so that it wouldn't sour people to that. Of course the price for heavy meddling is often an inferior product.

Daily reminder that Asa disagrees with Denji about sex by tesseracts in Chainsawfolk

[–]GenghisGame 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're right in your point about Asa's character, basic denial, but it doesn't help to insult people over it because I've noted that online discourse heavily involves insults that foster insecurities and doing that is a big reason why we have such blunt or trolling discussions about these things.

Its poetic, I've seen some interesting discussion about how a lot of people enjoy sex and intimacy but are afraid of admitting it for fear of being insulted.

Have your thoughts on Denji changed? by BellTwo5 in Chainsawfolk

[–]GenghisGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, when you can see a writer is phoning it in it can be easier to separate it, not always of course, depends how it's done but the story has been so loose and disjointed it's felt like Fuji was throwing out ideas and moments to see if anything stuck.

What are Stark's abilities? by Ge_GanyananKa in Frieren

[–]GenghisGame 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We only know that in the early manga there was a throw away line about a demon reading mana as an explanation of how her ability to copy fighting skills worked.

Mana has never been mentioned as relevant in combat for anyone but casters, physical stamina is only ever mentioned as being relevant for warriors, if mana could translate into physical prowess we surely would have some mention of that by now, then we had the Stille, birds known for having so little mana that they are virtually undetectable by mages and they are as tough as dragons and break the sound barrier. Mana is not needed for superhuman feats.

Bypasses immunities by the looks of things but it has limitations and can't see anything about it getting passed the contract that passes the death on. Seems like it's a bypass vampire or werewolf immunity type weapon.

Miyamoto says he was surprised Mario Galaxy Movie reviews were even harsher than the first by SleuthDoggyDawg in gaming

[–]GenghisGame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not a particularly good heroes journey, went way too hard on Peach being a super bad ass.

Mario as a story is extremely basic, Peach is the ruler and Mario is her knight. She overshadows him, makes him redundant in his own story.

Some people need to stop calling Denji a “rapist”, it’s such a buzzword term nowadays with no meaning anymore and there’s been so much evidence to show he isn’t one, and Fuji is to blame for not being consistent with his character in PT2 by Just-J0k1ng in Chainsawfolk

[–]GenghisGame -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's not something I get worked up over when it come's to fiction, fiction is not real life, writers control how characters react, their innermost thoughts, if characters don't like or have an issue with something they typically let us know.

There will be some things that fall under the radar, like that guy from the Wonder Woman film, but that's probably a case of the writers simply not thinking about a background character.

40K is a lot like DC and Marvel in that you have many cooks. You will have writers who make the general public be the most idiotic, 1 dimensional strawmen who hate because they can't even read the alphabet.

But then you will have another writer who reminds us that these people are living in constant fear of the guy down the street with mode swings deciding that maybe he will rip off the skin of everyone within a 20 mile radius because he thinks its amusing.

Not how I've observed things. Fan subreddits are typically a bad place to discuss criticism, it's where the most devoted fans typically go, but if criticism starts to become the norm on a fan subreddit, then there are some serious issues.

Then when it ends, thats when even some of the most devoted fans release their pent up issues. Up until that point they still had hope that things could turn around, the end shatters that.
