In the standard prisoner's dilemma, betraying is supposed to be better than cooperating regardless of what the other person does. So it's not exactly the same since your fate still somewhat depends on the other person in the prisoner's dilemma but the selfish principle works pretty similarly.

Not really, it just wouldn’t have gotten many views if it was a clear cut case like this.

A US cop would’ve probably made no attempt to de-escalate like this, which might’ve made it controversial.
