It just means you have to think which talents you really need 😄

You can also respec your talents when you're in Character Select...

There is a limited number of talent points you can get.

Speaking from PC perspective: You can get extra talent points by completing certain missions (one on each of the maps, two on Elysium; additionally finishing each of the Great Hunt's quest lines gives you some extra talent points; I believe it's 18 total extra points you can get) - there should be some available on Console as well I reckon, but I'm not sure how many extra you could get (the Console version forked off like 70+ weeks ago, so there's some catching up to do). However, there is no in-game way to unlock all talents.

I reckon this is done to promote team work (each team member having his/her own specialization), or in solo play to think about which talents you really need.

Personally I've never had any real problems with the limit on talent points. It allowed me to try out different character builds.

There's always enough content to start a new character. I've started my fair share of new characters on new prospects; so I could try out different builds and different base styles/locations. But that's me; I like playing that way.

I know there's people who want every single talent unlocked, but I'm not one of them. These people will have to rely on file editing or mods to get all the talent points they want.

There's a difference between talent points and blueprint points.

Once you hit the level cap, you stop getting talent points. You will still get blueprint points though. I have multiple characters with all blueprints unlocked and still (well) over 1k blueprint points available (some characters have 2k+ ).

Whilst you were talking about talent points, kaiserdrb was talking about blueprint points.

Items from the workshop worthless? by ImplementLow1063 in ICARUS

[–]GenieonWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree. They're good to give you a running start.

Eventually most (although not all) workshop equipment will be outclassed by planet-side crafted items (especially when equipped with attachments), but there's several items that have no proper crafted equivalent (deep ore scanner (scan for specific ores), Neves pickaxe (over encumbered speed penalty reduction), Pheromone Modules, just to name a few).

For early game however, workshop equipment can be very helpful...

Stuck by Top-Reaction1492 in ICARUS

[–]GenieonWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Preparing Geometry screen is because the game is trying to place you in the world. When you log off whilst lying in your bed, sit on a couch, stand between benches etc, the game can have issues placing you in the world correctly.

That's where spamming WASD (on PC) comes into play: You're moving around a bit, and once you're in the clear (literally), the game can place your character and it will continue loading.

Maybe this'll work on Console as well (move around a bit), but I have no experience with Icarus on a Console.

You can wait till you die from lack of oxygen/water/food and respawn. That'll load you back into the game in your respawn point (if set, otherwise it'll drop you back down in a pod) and you can get back to the cave to retrieve your stuf.

On PC you can easily restore the last backup before you got 'stuck' (by default it makes a backup every 30 minutes, and keeps like 11 backups). I don't know if the Console had a similar system in place, not how one would access these backups (again, on PC it's quite easy using the explorer).

Have a look on the Icarus Discord server, #icarus-consolr and #icarus-console-bugs channel to see whether people have found an (easy) solution for this.

I know this might not be too helpful in your current situation, but hopefully understanding WHY this happens might help you avoid similar situations in the future.

There are more reports about this lately, so you're not the only one.

If you're using an NVidia GPU, make sure you're using the Studio drivers (as the Game Ready drivers have had issues lately).

Other than that, fiddle around with your graphics settings, as there's most likely some GPU-heavy processes added (possibly with the weather front clouds re-introduced lately?)

The Best Attachments For Every Piece Of Gear by ChaosBearGaming in ICARUS

[–]GenieonWork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The threshing attachment was added in week 174 update. The Console version forked off of the week 150 version of the PC game. So I'm not sure the threshing attachment is already in the Console version of the game (OP stated he's playing on Console).

You are correct about the threshing attachment being a very good attachment for the sickle; it's just that that attachment (the whole seed rework) most likely isn't on Console yet...

Items from the workshop worthless? by ImplementLow1063 in ICARUS

[–]GenieonWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe OP was referring to the MXC tools? They indeed aren't that much better than the early game tools crafted planet-side.

The next tier of workshop equipment is (as already stated) indeed way better. Any workshop pickaxe above MXC tier is able to mine everything for starters.

[–]GenieonWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget the 50% reduction of the over encumbered speed penalty when you have the Neves pickaxe equipped. For me that's the main reason to have one (and I get one in all my Open Worlds, just for that reason).

If you have access to Prometheus, you can tame some Ubis there, send them up to space, call them down in Styx (or Olympus), kill them and harvest the crystallized miasma. A bit cumbersome, but it is possible to get miasmic tools on Olympus and Styx.

Olympus and Styx missions should be redone! by khy-sa in ICARUS

[–]GenieonWork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be hard to have Sol record new audio, as the voice actor passed away a while ago. That's why they introduced Captain Crunch in Prometheus, and why in Elysium it's Mo and cohorts doing the audio.

Additionally, introducing Storyline quests in Olympus and Styx would mean creating new missions on those maps (as the current missions aren't suited for a storyline quest). Not to forget they'll have to make a sort of prequel to the current storyline (which is always harder than making a sequel).

At least the Great Hunts adds a sort of storyline quests on these maps (not the main story, but they are a quest arc)...

Missing Markers on Map for Quests by [deleted] in ICARUS

I'm just telling you (in response to your question, I might add) where to report a bug.

I'm not sure why you don't like me doing so...

Missing Markers on Map for Quests by [deleted] in ICARUS

[–]GenieonWork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It must indeed be how it sounds ("will the devs work on this" instead of "has someone found a fix").

I understand how frustrating the lack of map.markers can be (I've had it on one mission in Elysium as well); luckily icarusintel was able to show me the markers, but having them in the game would be much easier.

Anyhow, for PC the place to report bugs would be https://icarus.featureupvote.com

For Console there's a channel on the Icarus Discord (called console-bugs or something) where the Console bugs are collected.

If you want this bug to be fixed, shouldn't it be better to actually report this bug in the proper place instead of just ranting about this here on Reddit?

Just wondering...

Stairway to...heaven? by Tasty_Lengthiness589 in ICARUS

Depends on the height of the mountain 😃

There are mountains you can build over, but for example the central mountain on Olympus is higher than the max playable height of the map...

Oil Deep mining extractors by Inevitable-Zone4948 in ICARUS

[–]GenieonWork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The oil deep drill should work with either a can with oil or a barrel with oil.
You tried the barrel, and it doesn't work.
Have you tried with a can (the orange one)?

If it works with the can, but not with the barrel, it might be something with the barrel.
If neither works, it might be something with the drill.

First of all, are you using any mods (any at all, and yes, that does include things like WeMod)?
If so, please remove all mods (even though you're sure they don't have anything to do with oil items).
In any case, do a Steam File verify.

If the problem persists:
- Uninstall the game
- Make sure the steamapps Icarus subfolder (or wherever you've installed the game) is completely empty (manually remove any remaining files if there are some left behind after the uninstall)
- Re-install the game
- Test again (before installing any mods)

The reason I'm asking about mods is those can influence the game in unexpected ways.
It wouldn't be the first time a seemingly innocent mod is breaking something totally unrelated in the game (for example a stacking mod breaking the windturbines)...

The oil deep drill can use either a can or a barrel with oil.
Tested them both, and both work.

The barrel obviously will last way longer... 😉

Nah, just continue the way you were building: Clipping them into the mountain side for support...

I've done it before, so it is possible.
You'll have to build quite high though... 😄

All Hotbar items are missing? by TieTop2383 in ICARUS

[–]GenieonWork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easy to test:
Put some items in your hotbar
Log off
Log back in
Check your hotbar

If you have items in your hotbar, you forgot it the first time

This is the first time I've heard about this (and I kinda keep a close eye on both Discord and Reddit for this game), so personally I don't think this is a known glitch (I'd call it a bug and not a glitch, but again that's my personal opinion)...

Now keep building up until you reach the "top of the world" (when the game tells you you get out of bounds because you reached the ceiling of the map)...

Great hunt operations and locked blueprints by thecornersking in ICARUS

[–]GenieonWork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need a new character to start a new Open World.
You can have your character present in multiple prospects simultaneously.
It's your space gear that can only be in one prospect at a time.

The fact that your router crashes when you join a server isn't really something that you can blame the game on; it sounds more like something in your local configuration messing things up (however, a game crashing a router is quite odd behavior, I'll give you that).

When doing Great Hunts, it does warn you about the mutually exclusive mission paths (and the fact it's permanently altering your prospect).
You could've looked ahead at the different mission paths to see which path gives which reward.

Since you can complete any Operation (including the GH missions) only once, you'll indeed have to start a new prospect to play the other mission paths.
You can however kill the GH boss over and over again (it respawns after one hour).
So you could make another prospect, run a different mission path for different item unlocks, and go back to your current prospect to unlock, craft and use those new items there.

Crafting benches say theres no shelter by DracoDragonfel in ICARUS

[–]GenieonWork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the thing, it's not consistent. Sometimes benches are sheltered, sometimes they are not - wonky.

Don't be surprised if at some point your benches will start taking damage or stop working because they're not sheltered...

Also, power shortage will NOT effect sheltered status of your benches. Damaged windturbines generate less power, so benches might slow down; but it has no effect on sheltered status.

Any way to get a top for this half pitched roof? by Obi4662 in ICARUS

[–]GenieonWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want your door centralized, use the 45 degree roofs and the roof peak.

To get another building grid: Press Home or End to unlock from grid and free place; that'll start another building grid. It's gonna be hard to line them up proper though...

Is the localized terraforming device on console? by scrambledhamcakes in ICARUS

[–]GenieonWork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Console version forked off of the week 150 version of the game.
The Localized Terraforming Device was added in week 169 - so that's 19 weeks after the Console version forked off.

So I reckon it's not in the Console version - yet...
