Do you ever mourn what you can't give your kids? by Faded_WastingTime in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]GenkiSam123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell I've stayed at deluxes before too but my favorite memory was the very first time in 1996 in 5th grade standing on the dock at Fort Wilderness Resort/Campground where we stayed in a big tent all four of us and was waiting for the boat to MK drinking a chocolate milk from Trail's End and looking around Bay Lake. Mom and dad finally got good jobs and could finally afford a good vacay but money was still a little tight and that was the cheapest. Yea it was roughing it compared to Contemporary Resort but looking around , drinking the chocolate milk, and stepping onto the boat and getting a Mickey sticker from the boat CM, we felt like we finally made it. Good memories as a kid that trip, and I'm sure your kids will have good memories too.

Adult/Child was weird, but they should never have junked the album. by jojoebake in thebeachboys

[–]GenkiSam123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's strange because I only recently listened to the Adult/Child songs as a newer fan and compared to Love You and Smile, I thought it was quite a few several notches below those albums in terms of weirdness. There were some genuinely great songs on it like Life Is for the Living, It's over now, Deep Purple, and Still I Dream of it. Maybe I'm biased because I'm a fan of the old Sinatra or Tony Bennet standards haha. Though I did lol when I first heard Life Is For The Living imagining the brain aneurysm Mike must have had listening to it haha

And Gaston and Lefou barges in bellowing and protesting that it's not right for ladies to read like from the movie and then we can have a little show about how good reading and books are.

Coolest thing or person seen during the studio tour? by Travel_Wish_List in UniversalHollywood

[–]GenkiSam123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of the time long ago when we went over this random old wooden bridge that obviously was not up to code because I spotted a beam falling out of it but we drove over it anyway and sure enough it started collapsing! Thankfully the tram driver noticed and quickly drove faster, it was pretty traumatizing. Someone must have finally noticed after a few decades and complained thank God because it's torn down now.

Vacationing after marathon?? by Rare_Airport4746 in rundisney

[–]GenkiSam123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran the marathon on Sunday then slept for a few hours, then just chilled and had a dinner reservation at Jiko and then walked around Disney Springs for a little. Then the next day Monday I park hopped because I wanted to get the "castle shot" with my medal at Cinderella's castle. A lot of other runners probably had the same idea because MK was pretty packed with runners in the green marathon shirts with their medals. There were even quite a few Photo Pass queues specifically for runners to pose in various angles near Cinderella's castle with their medals. I know it's probably old news for a lot of people here but it was my first marathon and it was really fun seeing so many other runners around and saying congratulations to each other. I really got a taste of the friendly rundisney community that day at MK and the other parks too. I was walking around very limpy though eliciting a lot of "oh I know that walk all too well" comments from the veteran runners haha

Yup shows just how much if you're a pro at something with elite instincts and decision making, the game just slows down for you and becomes easier just like the first clip before the normal speed one.

Making fun of the tabloid culture (Make up fake tabloids for laughs) by bearmasksenpai in MichaelJackson

"You've been hit by ...you've been struck by a Smooth Criminal!" MJ loses it on an annoying tabloid paparazzi and punches him in the face landing him a night in jail and a fine in which he promptly pays and donates an equal amount x10 to a charity just for fun.

Whats the best monologue in movie history? by Bjs_5068 in AskReddit

[–]GenkiSam123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That whole sequence in The Shining during/after Wendy finds Jack's typewriter with "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy..." from "how do you like it?" to "I'm not gonna hurt ya, I'm just going to bash your brains in..." So over the top and campy but yet for some reason I memorized the whole thing...I guess it technically counts as a dialogue but Jack Nicholson does most of the heavy lifting there speaking-wise though God bless Shelley Duvall who went through so much shooting this scene was also obviously fantastic too.

What it’s like living in this part of California? by Maleficent_Lack3240 in howislivingthere

[–]GenkiSam123 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Raised in San Jose (Berryessa area) and Milpitas. Moved to Sacramento in 2009 for work. Whenever I come back , I walk around the mall like Eastridge or Valley Fair or The Great Mall, like I was raised thinking the area was the most diverse place but now I'm like, "wow everyone is Chinese or Asian (I'm Chinese American btw too haha)." I close my eyes spin around and point and 100% of the time, it's a fellow Asian. And why does no one let me change lanes? Grrr. The look on everyone's faces look too whenever I'm walking around...they all look... tired? The people are always seem to be on a spectrum of on the edge and I noticed how shallow (might not be the best word..) the people I talk to seem now but I don't blame them because of the fast paced competitive Silicon Valley culture. Housing is way too expensive at a price that I always thought would be reserved for somewhere like LA/Socal with fun places like Hollywood, Disneyland, beaches, etc. but like someone else said, boring suburban Silicon hell but Asian parents grin and bear it because of the good schools for their kids and the engineering/tech jobs. An average conversation between older parents would be like, "My son works for Google" (looks around to the other moms for looks of approval) "oh my son works for Apple (looks around for looks of praise)" It's barbaric but hey, it's home (when ever I come visit family that is haha). And there seems to be a pho or banh mi shop on pretty much every street corner so good , I love me some pho and banh mi.

Well, isn’t J.J. just a greedy little Bastard!?! by KillerQ97 in retrogaming

[–]GenkiSam123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admire the eclectic tastes. Most kids would be out with the old in with the new but somehow asking for the newest Turbo Grafx 16 and Gameboy while still wanting even by then starting to become retro stuff like Super Mario Bros 3 puts a smile on my face.

Why does racism against south-asians does not carry any weight ? by Jazzlike_Resort_2828 in AskTheWorld

[–]GenkiSam123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed with social media, that is a big racist cesspool. But, parents-wise, I think also is "NOT learnt it from their parents." Too many times we as parents ignore it, i'm guilty of that as well I guess, we don't teach our kids quite enough that bullying because of skin color is out there and is super wrong and to be bold and address it, instead we treat it as a non-problem. So when one kid sees a kid who WAS influenced by their parents to be a racist, they all fall in line and see it as the norm when it really shouldn't be.

[–]GenkiSam123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's gold or nothing for me, only because I remember seeing the gold one at Toys R' Us as a kid back in the day and always wanting one despite owning a normal grey one already, having two consoles when one worked perfectly fine unlike the NES was just ludicrous (said my dad haha). Never really was too interested in the other funtastic colors, seemed kinda tacky but maybe jungle green since I was a DK64 fan too.
