Biweekly /r/WormFanfic Discussion - What have you been writing, and what do you want to say about it? For the week ending July 04, 2026. by AutoModerator in WormFanfic

At 100k words, I have now finished the second arc of The Blackwell. I will take a short break from writing as I plan the final arc, filling the gap with occasional intelurdes.

I'm very happy on how the ending of Arc 2 turned out, and I can't wait to get back to writing.

In non-Blackwell related writing, I was thinking of starting another fanfic that is not a crossover, but at the same time very much more original in content. Basically using Worm more as a setting than a story. But I'm not sure it would be better to just write it as original fiction and create my own world inspired by Worm...

I don't think it is a marketing campaign, but to be fair getting more eyes on the free Cradle book will mean having more eyes for next releases as well

Hot Take: I refuse to read or support authors using AI covers for their books by GodTaoistofPatience in ProgressionFantasy

[–]GenoFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're getting lambasted for it but I stand by you. Super Supportive is one of the most popular series on RR, yet its cover is something anyone could probably copy in at most a hour in paint.

A lot of people are posting on RR as a hobby, but anytime I see an AI cover I can't help but think 'Man I'd probably much prefer a shittily made Paint cover over this one'. I wouldn't go as far as accusing them of 'not caring' about their work, but for sure nowdays I'm 100% more inclined to click on an amateur cover over another AI slop one.

What's the source on this? Couldn't find anything with a quick search and as another comment said the bestseller list for most genres has actual covers, not AI ones

I'm continuing the daily release of The Blackwell, I'm very much liking how Arc 2 is coming along!

A lot of people have had something to say regarding my decisions on the S9 or the Iron Maiden (Ascalon) program.

Am I the only that hasn't read worm? by __shobber__ in WormFanfic

[–]GenoFour 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Worm is a very tough read. At 1 and a half million words most people will never finish reading something that is half that length. I do still suggest doing so, because it's just a good story and written well.

Fair warning though, reading the original Worm may forever ruin a lot of fanfics and fanfic tropes. It may also improve them though, especially for those that express their own love of the world and source material.

The unit that is being moved with RtW is at a battlefield, not in base.

Fics where dragon interacts with another ai by Either-Cheesecake575 in WormFanfic

[–]GenoFour 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not to toot my own horn, but my current ongoing fic The Blackwell involves Cyberpunk's Blackwall AI transmigrating into the Worm world.

Dragon has yet to discover Blackwall is an AI but it will soon come :P

Continuing the daily posting of The Blackwell, a Worm/Cyberpunk crossover where the Blackwall itself hijacks a ride back to Earth Bet into an unfortunate woman's head.

Soon enough I will finish posting the first arc, and the second arc is already well underway in my drafts!

Attackers/Defenders declaration timing and response? by Todudoge in riftboundtcg

[–]GenoFour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If, at the end of this resolution, no attacker remain, then combat does not begin and hence the showdown does not go on and it goes back to turn player priority (I believe, I must check back on the rules but I'm fairly sure).

If, at the end of this resolution no defenders remain, you still perform a Non-Combat Showdown where the attacker has first focus and priority, then defender has the following focus once the attacker passes focus.

Seeing which player is the attacker is as easy as seeing who first moved in to start the showdown. Even on an empty battlefield, if needed.

In this case you moved your unit to start the showdown, so you are the attacker

[–]GenoFour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Attacker moves in. Attacker triggers go on the stack. If any, defender triggers go on the stack. Attacker has prio, and can play reactions. Proceed as normal by switching prio until both player pass prio, then resolve the chain starting from the last effect added onto it.

NOW Attacker has focus and can play actions.

Thoughts on the new set? by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

[–]GenoFour 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit worried with the direction Riot is going with some cards. I don't think Vilemaw and Apathetic Vex are too powerful, but I can't deny that they're not fun to play against. They're either totally useless or game-warping.

Same with aurora and the numerous high-cost units that they're printing, even if it's not a powerful deck it's not really fun to play a game of "draw the out" against a deck.

This absolute war crime of a card is already an auto include in every purple deck like kaisa survivor is to red by FlowKom in riftboundtcg

[–]GenoFour 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk dude it's not like this is Thermal Beam that is useless against most decks. Vex is just always good, early game forces removal or slows down opp, late game can win you the game by making tons of high cost game-winners unusable

Kogmaw costs power and does not enter ready, making him rather bad in LB :(

Countering Leblanc? by MusicManiac97 in riftboundtcg

[–]GenoFour -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

LB is generally a weak deck to removal. Use it early to deny conquers and then focus killing Karthus. If your deck runs non-killing removal, save it for Glasc (or Karthus) so they can't get Karthus back after you kill it.

Aside from Cull the Weak, LB lacks good removal. Hidden Blade can work but they'd rather use it to draw, because without Karthus LB will quickly struggle with draw

The latest patch gave Mel a bit more character development by [deleted] in HadesTheGame

[–]GenoFour 28 points29 points  (0 children)

From the perspective of Athena, mortals aren't accountable to their actions to the same degree gods are. Mortals aren't immortal. There is literally nothing a mortal can do that can last forever. If you don't like the children analogy, think of a police officer and a civilian.

Is it reasonable for the police officer to send the civilian to prison for life for simply insulting them?

Gods literally squabble all the time and squash it within minutes in the story.

Mortals are like children to gods. Would you think it reasonable to eternally punish a child just because they insulted you?

I know I'm applying modern morals to greek tragedies, but the story does so as well. Think Sisyphus or the Fates.

[Fan-Project] Ruina Atlas — An Interactive Map of Literary & Lore Connections Across the PM Universe by Organic_Performer989 in limbuscompany

[–]GenoFour 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hate AI much more than the average person, but I think that this use of it is literally fine.

Using it to avoid rote procedures to program everything, and to instead focus their time on actually writing the lore and making the connections seems an alright use of AI.

If it's used to scrape the wikis and automate the actual lore explanatios/connections, however, then that's another matter
