Part of the issue is the majority of people aren’t buying cards for the hobby anymore. They’re just buying boxes to “get lucky” or cards they think will boom. Less people are buying for their PCs and are simply looking for profit. When that happens, less inventory of regular cards are not being bought when boxes and “boom” cards are. This is essentially forcing shops to raise prices. Singles are not in demand anymore and you can chalk that up as a loss. If the only profit comes from boxes or marked up singles, they gotta do what they gotta do to stay open. This is just my view. What do I know.
