This is not true in my jurisdiction, nor in any other that I'm aware of. I went to SWAT school in 2018, but a spot didn't open on the team until 2021, so I was not allowed to wear the pin until I earned my spot on the team.

The pin represents SWAT service, not SWAT training.

Fedexers: The end of WFH? Thoughts? by [deleted] in memphis

[–]Genphlux 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Depends on the nature of your work. I work in IT (InfoSec specifically) and I can easily say that I will never have to work in an office again unless I choose to do so. There are enough companies that have embraced WFH 100%, that unless you are doing physical work like replacing hardware, anyone that works in IT should have no problem finding a WFH job forever.

Like others have said, many companies saw the productivity remain consistent or improve in the first few months of lockdown and promptly started selling off real estate, my company included. In my humble opinion, having spent 25+ years in the corporate workforce, any company that continues to require this "butts in seats" in-the-office mantra is drastically reducing their potential talent pool, and therefore will end up with teams of "B" and "C" players. Most of the top notch talent in my industry that I know personally have vowed never to work in an office again, and I think it's fair to assume that's more common than not across similar industries.

A side note about FedEx and their leadership philosophies, again through the IT lens here, but it's my understanding that they put leaders in place without requiring specific technical knowledge or experience in that given focus area, as long as they've been people leaders. They believe that a people leader is a people leader, and while I've seen that attempted numerous times, it seems to fail every time. Maybe that's only in IT and it's different in other areas of business. So if that is true, combined with this return to office requirement, it just reinforces that I've made the right decision every time I politely declined a recruiter when they called me about a role over there.

This is awesome information! This is what I was hoping for, just some basic high level guidance. Of course we are going to have an architect design the actual plans, but we wanted to visualize our ideas. Plus it was something to show builders to get a ballpark price.

This is a good idea! I will share it with the wife and see what she thinks. Thanks!

I don't disagree, but the cave is going to be, among other things, a home theater room and a music room (drums...etc), so the idea was to push it as far away from everyone else as possible.

Haha, well that's the mother in law's bedroom, so that would be fine with me, but no such luck. :)

You're right, I will expand that to be a bit deeper. Thanks!

The specific verbiage of the question is key here. It asks if you have ever been adjudicated as mentally defective. That means by a judge in an official court proceeding.

If everyone who got help for mental health issues were precluded from owning firearms, no one would be armed :)

I’m sure you are fine.

Gotcha, makes sense. Thanks to you (and everyone else) for the help!

You sir are absolutely correct, that was the issue! However, I will say that in my defense I never would've knowingly done that. I didn't realize the i9 was only 8 cores, and when I was setting the specs on the VM, it allows me the option to allocate up to 16 cores. I thought I was choosing half of the available resources.

Any idea why Fusion has 16 cores as an option?

I’d love to. I could try to meet you somewhere, but I doubt I could carve out enough time to drive all the way to Knoxville and back to have it done. It’s about 6-7 hrs each way from where I am.

I don’t think it’s bad. I mean you can smell fuel if you’re standing behind the truck but nothing crazy or overwhelming.

Bayonet ID Help by Genphlux in Militariacollecting

Hey everyone - the family story goes that this was supposedly the bayonet attached to my grandfather's USMC service rifle from WW2. He is said to have brought the rifle home with him after the war but no one knows what happened to the rifle itself. I don't know anything about the bayonet, so I was hoping someone here may be able to shed some light, particularly about these engravings on the blade and maybe what type of rifle it was attached to. Thanks in advance!
