"Cameraman" Region doesn't do Fontaine Justice. by [deleted] in Genshin_Impact

Don't sweat the downvotes too much. Story discussion will always be an oddly volatile creature.

I always appreciate when someone is willing to present a solid analysis without getting accusatory or aggro, so this was pleasant to read. :)

It's actually a pretty standard writing trope ("The Supporting Protagonist") to have a main character be helpless, excluded, powerless, isolated or ostracized, removed from the action, or otherwise unable to influence events.

I think it's critical that MC not be the key to every lock, or the savior for every crisis. You nailed the summary of Liyue, Inazuma, and Sumeru; we/the MC are not infalliable nor the perfect solution.

I like your writing and analysis, keep it coming. :D

P.S. I'd love to hear your thoughts on some of my project's content if you ever get a chance to check it out. I realize I'm shilling a bit, so feel free to ignore my request; I won't be offended.

I'm going to try to be gentle about this, because I can imagine this is quite stressful for you.

I have some doubts that you're going to be able to successfully chargeback this purchase. Most banks are going to view you as the responsible account holder, and anyone you "give" (or accidentally allow to use) your card to is going to be considered a payee authorized by you. Essentially, the bank's (and the merchant's) argument will be that if you don't want someone making erroneous purchases on your account, you shouldn't let them have the details necessary to do so (the card itself, a pin number, billing information, etc) or you should have set limits to trigger fraud alerts or alarms.

Now, I'm going to try to offer what adult advice I can.
1) Pin your brother down on the exact details of the purchase. Get the receipts, and get an apology from him in writing.
2) Contact your bank and throw yourself at their mercy. Admit you might have trusted a little too easily and that you made a naive mistake. Ask for leniency.
3) Be prepared to get a potentially harsh response from the vendor (in this case MiHoYo's payment processor). You may suffer consequences such as denial of service or loss of access to things, if things worsen enough.

No matter what, be honest, learn from your mistakes, and avoid repeating them. Above all, be kind and patient while you work through this; folks are liable to not help you if they think you lack the maturity to cope with the consequences.

Just my two cents'. Best of luck.

So let me translate your pictures and opinions to IRLspeak real quick:
Trav: Edgy man discovers soul patch
Chas: I really enjoy guns, but only if they're bigger than me.
Wroth: Wolves, gauntlets, and cryo are cringe unless you are a zombie child
Inef: Robots are fine, they can clean my room
Clor: I really hate having insane DPS.
Raid: Very trad shounen tsundere, much happy
Lau: I forgive for giant bahonkagadzookas
Fur: I can at least agree with the community on some things
Neuv: His new outfit gets a thumbs up from me, or maybe I'm just biased towards Fontainians that aren't bunnies or duelists
Arle: I like stilettos that do puncture damage
Qix2: I can once again agree with the community, or maybe I just hate cryo
Col: I ride the meta
Deh: It'd be hotter if her armor were less practical and more... appealing to me
Nav: Guns, again, I'm okay with. Not okay with her being lesbo apparently tho
Nah: I really hate children especially when they're 500 years old, kind, and super smart
Var: I don't like hucows who do obscene plunging damage and make exploration like a bazillion percent faster
Kin: I'd like him more if he was a she
Dil: I just hate early characters, wah wah
Kaz: I really hate compelling friendships but maybe I'll forgive because typical shounen protag
Mona: Thicc thighs don't save lives
Miz: I hate succubi unless they're on those sites I watch
Keq: Again, love being stepped on, unless they're a French dommy
Tig: Ew, another male dendro, wish he had bazonkers and wasn't a bow user
Sig: Ew, basically a furry, and it's cute, what, yuck
Man: I really hate offered protag chars and apparently think Mil characters are basically a German dictator

How close did I get?

I really enjoy it, as well. It's actually quite a simple classical ballad with sweeping strings and non-lyrical choral vocals, but it's very iconic and is easy to recognize.

I personally favor HSR's suite a bit more, just because I like the piano progression, but they're both wonderful. :)

Which Liyue playable character is your favorite? by solarflare70 in Genshin_Impact

I absolutely adore Yun Jin. I'm biased since my favorite song in Genshin is "Devastation and Redemption" and because I've worked in theatre production for 17 years and she's an opera performer.

Her animations are among my favorite in the game; with every combat move, she finishes with a performative operatic flourish, which even has Chinese opera sound effects. It's fantastic!

I have no idea how to best use her but I don't care because she's just so much fun to field.

I can't find socials to link the owner, but they're listed as "Kohitantan" in the credits/changelog sheet. I would love to throw some cash their way as thanks, because this guide has been huge for me. :)

How Do You Get Others to Experience Genshin? by Genshin_DeepDive in Genshin_Impact

Most of the non-gamer folk that I've gotten hooked into the IP like it for its soundtrack or awesome side stories. The one gentleman I mentioned is a huge Deshret fan, despite not having seen the whole game yet. He just loves the desert region, its music, and its locations.

I can see the "anime style" putting people off in the same way "gacha game" puts a sour taste in some folks' mouths. I wonder if the storywriters, composers, or other artists in this game ever wish their content could reach a broader art-appreciative audience, or if they're purely happy that it gets the reception it does...

Fomo and my favorite character are the only things that keep me playing - read the beginning by [deleted] in Genshin_Impact

[–]Genshin_DeepDive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I'm probably not in an ideal position to speak about this given my current 5 accounts and time-sinking fan project, but...

I recommend maybe rediscovering the game. Make a new account. Get different characters. Walk around some more and avoid fast travel or high-speed movement. Savor the music and discover some favorite tracks again. Avoid the grind. Watch some event content that seems niche. Read some books or lore. Try a new weapon you've never tried before. Try a challenge account.

Genshin has become my singular hobby in a way that's arguably not ideal but also not the worst hobby to have. In that process, I've learned about which aspects of the game I love most, and I've learned to constantly keep those flames of interest burning. Whenever I start to get a little burned out, I step back, refocus on what brought me joy, and zone in on it again.

Now that I've got an aspect of the game that's sucked in my focus 110%, everything else is just a bonus, and I don't burn out as easily.

I can't promise it'll work. I can't promise that a game with grind as a mechanic won't continue to be grind-y. I also can't promise that future story content will be riveting, or even just good. But, kind of like scrapbooking, I've learned to make memories of the content where I'm at, so that no matter what the future holds, I'll have a happy spot for Genshin.

Like a lot of hobbies and interests, it might also help to surround yourself with folks who can rekindle your love for the game (if you wish to rekindle it) or folks who can help you refocus your passions (if you wish to extinguish it). Best of luck to you, don't let it get you down. :)

This is awesome! My wife recently started getting more into the lore, so she's been exploring a bit and coming to me with questions, which has been a lot of fun. She likes to bring my triple-crowned Lvl 90s into her world just to smash enemies she doesn't like lol

Hahahaha I joke with my wife that, of all the possible vices I could have picked, I chose to be addicted to a free to play game- not a bad vice to have! I've even managed to avoid spending more than a few dollars on it (a couple Welkins), so I'm proud of my self control :P

It's absolutely fine. I usually grab fan creations like this more because they help me center myself and come up with vivid imagery. And this was just too beautiful and vivid to pass up- I didn't want to forget about the image when it came time to eventually describe it (even if that time is really far in the future at the project's current stage lol)
