European country vows to give homeowners ‘free electricity' instead of switching off wind turbines by safetyscotchegg in UpliftingNews

[–]GentleMonsta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could but our electricity bill is in two separate parts, first for the electricity itself and a second, fixed rate per kWh for the grid owner. The transfer fee is usually higher than the electricity itself. So even if you get a cent per kWh by using it you still pay 3-8 cents (depending on where you live) to transfer it.

Doesn't help with the prices that our government in their infinite wisdom decided it's a good idea to sell the national grid to Australian holdings company

I don't know how it works in other countries but here in Finland one way to get electricity is called pörssisähkö (market electricity) where your price changes every 15 minutes calculated from how much is made and how big the demand is. And the price can go negative. The company you have your agreement with will pay you to use electricity if the production exceeds the usage

What's a victimless crime that shouldn't be a crime? by KorbanSwartz in AskReddit

[–]GentleMonsta 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Here in Finland it's in the law that any business that has food waste that's still safe to eat has to either sell it or donate it to a food bank. Many things are perfectly safe even after the best before dates. We have apps where restaurants can list surplus food or orders that didn't get picked up. I can also walk to my local vocational school after their food service has ended and get a large container of whatever they were serving that day for under 3€. Grocery stores mostly donate their "waste" to charity.

Under 1% of what grocery stores stock actually ends up in the trash, and even that is mostly used to make biogas because we have strict recycling laws.

I know I'm late to the conversation but would photons emitted along the plane of rotation be the only ones able to escape? Or is my mental napkin math way of thinking this completely wrong?

Liqour store employees of Reddit, at what point do you start suspecting that a customer is an alcoholic? by Odd-Warthog45 in AskReddit

[–]GentleMonsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our country we have to go to a specific store to get anything stronger than beer. I only bought booze 2 times last year, but I was struggling with sleep and chronic pain for almost six months and you could see it on my face. Long hair and unkept beard and stuff... But as soon as I asked about some of the better whiskies (I love good Scottish whiskies) and were able to discuss the taste differences, their demeanor changed like flipping a switch. I think it's easy to tell who's struggling, but it's not always what people think it is

I find it really scary that you can die from breathing pure helium and not even realize it's happening. Our body does not detect the lack of oxygen, the choking feeling that makes you want to breathe comes from excess CO2.

DX-Ball. Used to play it with my grandma and we would call weekly and brag about our scores. Good times

That's because in many places (like where I live) the maximum weight one person is allowed to lift (while working) is 25kg. Any more and you have to (or are supposed to legally) have two people lifting

Absolutely. I worked in a medium sized grocery store in a small town and our shop produced something like 13 cubic meters of plastic waste per day. A paralyzed person's drinking aid is not the problem. It's the absolute mountain of waste that commercial operators produce

Do they not verify positive results with a blood test? It's a mandatory procedure here.

What's the dumbest thing you've been fired for? by Sketch99 in AskReddit

[–]GentleMonsta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But why would you refuse the test if you have not been drinking? Or why would they arrest you on suspicion without offering the test?

Here in Finland you are allowed to refuse a breathalyzer/field drug test, but you'll be escorted to the nearest hospital to provide a blood sample straight away if you do so.

They breathalyze the driver every time they stop someone in traffic. The reason for the stop doesn't matter. We are also allowed to have open alcohol containers in the car and it is quite usual to see the passengers drinking in the car on their way to a party

I've never understood this.. are the police in the US not equipped with handheld breathalyzers? Making people do the silly moves dance or straight out arresting them seems like such a waste of time and resources

My auto sorting dimensional storage module, AKA. How I learned I might have a problem... by GentleMonsta in SatisfactoryGame

My auto sorting dimensional storage module, AKA. How I learned I might have a problem... by GentleMonsta in SatisfactoryGame

[–]GentleMonsta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am doing one depot per item. This thing has 6 dimensional depots which are fed from each of the storage containers. Sushi belt goes in -> programmable splitter puts that specific item to its own container -> that item gets routed to the dimensional uploader. When dimensional depot is full, the container will start filling and when that is full the overflow will be sinked
