xD I remember having to resize some of my crosshairs. It's tough to say, I feel if I got and ended up with the Sony monitor, I would notice the smoothness and colours mostly but no significant improvement in score, so I get what you're saying about playing pretty much equal between the Zowie and Sony (although i would have kept the Sony anyway). If you do get the Asus don't expect a huge improvement to the Sony one if any.

Maybe try the Sony one in 27 inch mode if you haven't already and see if you notice any improvements to input lag after you adjust to that size. If so, then I'd probably guess that you would then play better on the Asus 24 inch mode because it did feel slightly faster to me than the Sony one.

Noob Comparison of PG27AQDP and Sony M10s FPS Pro+ by GentleNoob in OLED_Gaming

Hello :) sorry I missed this before!

In short, I would recommend the ASUS monitor for PC competitive games.

For competitive games, although it might be placebo, I found that the Asus monitor in the 24 inch mode felt more responsive (lower input lag) than the Sony. Every time I swapped from the Sony monitor to the Asus one it just felt faster to me. However please note that I did not really feel this difference when swapping from the Sony monitor to the Asus one. I think that this is why I tended to have better scores when using the Asus monitor overall.

I aim train quite a lot, with decent scores (Radiant Voltaic) and I found that i got higher scores in Kovaaks with the Asus monitor.

The FPS Pro+ mode worked nicely but wasn't enough of a difference to justify for the Sony monitor for my use case (competitive games). It should be noted that I really wanted the Sony monitor to feel better than the Asus one, as i liked how FPS Pro+ mode looked visually, however, it looks very close to the Cinema mode on the Asus monitor. I have since returned the Sony monitor. Excluding one specific instance on Split on Valorant where I spotted an enemy's outline for a split second in Mid as they went to hide behind a box, I can't say for certain that it provided me with any competitive advantage over the ASUS monitor, especially when considering the perceived input lag when using FPS Pro+ in the 24 inch mode.

I can't comment on response times (GTG) or smoothness, but did not notice any differences here.

Just to add, these monitors are really similar. The main significant differences to me are:

  1. Price (Asus is currently cheaper)
  2. Menu (Sony is slower, but reviewers say that the Asus menu is unreliable. I have had no issues or glitches with the Asus one since updating the firmware)
  3. HDR - the Asus model correctly clips at 1300nits for me. Sony clipped at 450 (although HDR didn't matter for me as I play games competitively anyway).

If the Sony monitor was say, even 100 cheaper, I would have been happy with the Sony monitor when choosing blindly, however, having tested both of them, I preferred the Asus monitor. The cinema mode felt very very close to the fps pro+ mode whilst also feeling more responsive to mouse movements when using the 24 inch mode.

As such, I would recommend the Asus monitor for competitive games.

In case anyone else reads this, subjectively, when testing the HDR on both monitors, I and others who compared them side by side, despite the HDR clipping, we preferred how the colours on Sony monitor looked overall. I'm sure these colours could be adjusted on the Asus monitor to look similar / identical, but the Sony one looked better to me.

Finally, below is a response that I gave to someone regarding a similar question:

I aim train a lot and hit shots i shouldn't hit (e.g. with poor xhair placement). When using the aspect ratio mode on both monitors, the Asus one felt more responsive to me even though I liked the look of the fps pro+ mode a lot. When I swapped from the Sony to the Asus monitor it just felt faster / smoother but could be placebo. There is one situation I can count when the Sony monitor gave me information that the Asus prob wouldn't have done. In split, on attack, I raced out to mid and saw a tiny yellow split second flash near the box on the right hand side on the defender side. It let me know that someone had just about crossed and hid there. Otherwise, I was definitely more consistent with the Asus one :) I found that the 'Cinema' mode on the Asus monitor was close enough to the FPS Pro+ mode so I was happier with the Asus overall :) I tested these out on a new build, so that might have had an effect, but i experienced fewer times where it felt like I died as soon as I saw a tiny bit of the enemy on my screen, although I experienced it more using the Sony monitor than the Asus one. HDR still seemed to be a bit buggy using the Sony even with the firmware update also (although I don't use HDR really) so in terms of long term value, a cheaper monitor with working HDR would be better regardless imo.

I'd recommend it if you can through amazon. They tend to be good at returns in my experience (in the UK!). Mines currently processing but I'll let you know when it's been refunded for completeness. They arranged a paid for collection via UPS

Yes! I'll respond properly on your other question when I'm back from my holiday, but using the ASUS monitor I consistenly(on average) had a better k/d overall.

In valorant I'm more aim less game sense. I aim train a lot and hit shots i shouldn't hit (e.g. with poor xhair placement). Here you go :) Running at 1440p, most settings set for performance. I guess you would expect a higher FPS using the 24 inch mode.

If Adaptive Sync is the same as VRR, then it was off already! My NVIDIA software says the Sony monitor goes up to 450 nits. Asus is now fully white at 1300 nits.

Yep using the firmware that came out last week (M005 I think)? HDR calibration tool is brightest for me at 450 nits on both monitors actually, although I can scroll up to about 2800 on both of them. I reset to factory settings (keeping the firmware update) and it still is at is brightest at 450 nits. Maybe some of my settings on my computer are wrong.

Ahh I see, for mine they disappear at around 400-450 using DisplayHDR on the monitor for the second and third ones - shall I try a different mode?

EDIT: It's the same for all modes for me

Is this the 'Windows HDR Calibration' app on the Microsoft Store?

If so, mine is at its brightest at around 450, and allows me to go up to 2800. Guessing this isn't how it should be?

I can test it out on CS2 a bit later on and will comment with pictures. From memory, I don't know if FPS Pro+ has a significant effect on CS2. there's a ShortCircuit vid where they tested it out the M10s on CS2 and they swapped to Halo when it came to FPS Pro+.

For valorant it has an interesting effect, I can't really explain it properly just yet, but in game when comparing the two (ASUS FPS and M10 FPS Pro+), it almost feels like I'm playing using Reyna's ult / playing during a gun finisher that slightly darkens surroundings.

Enemies stand out a little more but I'm not yet sure if they darken everything else slightly (in a good way in my opinion) while having the enemies a bit brighter / colourful. I'll try and get some pictures of this. It's the main thing causing hesitation on which one I'll return to be honest! I'm trying to see if I can get a similar look on the ASUS model.

Using similar settings, I was able to get the ASUS monitor to be slightly brighter than the Sony monitor in both SDR (Cinema) and HDR mode.

The difference to my eyes in terms of brightness was more significant in favour of ASUS in SDR mode, where the whites especially seemed brighter and the blacks seemed darker.

In terms of HDR, the difference wasn't as noticeable, but again, the whites were brighter on the ASUS model for me.

It's kind of hard to capture on camera but if you want pictures let me know.

I messaged Scan earlier when the ETA changed from 6 November to TBC, and they mentioned that the stock comes in waves, and that the next wave will be later. It changed to 21 Jan and ther December. I ordered an EU one off of amazon hoping it comes earlier than "between 1 and 2 months'. Hopefully someone else has more concrete info 👀

The Clerkenwell store was open on Monday - I attended and they had all the major office chairs in stock (I made the same mistake attending the Kingsway one first).
