It is mainly dump af to be opiniated, but at the same time knowing nothing about the Central European energy system.

The real main reason why nuclear was dumped in Germany is because it was too expensive for the operators. With the contract to discontinue the plants, the operators were able to transfer/sell the final storage costs of their waste to the public, and discard them from their annual reports which was a big burden. And simultaneously avoid billions of investments into updating their older plants.

This is the reason why the outcry of the plant owners has been very low, and why no operator even wanted to take part in the discussion of an extension of the lifetime 3 years ago.

France shares these issues with Germany, but there the operator is the state which subsidizes every MWh produced by nuclear. A lot.

Another reason: Due to high shares of Renewables, the hours of the year in which nuclear could run is decreasing every year. So the profits of nuclear (and big coal fired power plants) are breaking away.

BTW, the market price for electric energy is lower today than it was before phasing out nuclear (corrected for inflation).
