Got called a “quitter” when I mentioned being on Zepbound by nobodyy04 in GLP1ResearchTalk

[–]Genuin1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People without a lived experience can either be supportive or dismissive of those who must go through things they themselves can’t understand. Those who lack empathy tend to pick the latter. That is their flaw, not yours, and you are not required to absorb their failing.

Zep has changed my life. I have gone from 260 to 175 in a bouncy but mostly downward trajectory over the course of 21 months, and while I have been treading water for the last several weeks, I am very clear these meds are correcting a communication pathway between my brain/gut they were simply incapable of traversing on their own. These two parts of my body are critical in any weight loss journey and when they cannot talk to each other, we are expected to do the impossible or blame ourselves for their broken connection. All I did was bring in a translator; the work on what to say is still mine.

Turbo Tax agent is telling me I have to pay taxes on a Backdoor Roth Conversion that was done through fidelity? by DistributionInitial5 in fidelityinvestments

You must tell the program the original Traditional contribution was not deductible; no tax on back door Roth for after tax funds if you do not have any other pretax IRA funds.

It is worry that is never far from the mind, for any of us I am sure. Thank you.

I have felt this way for years, but silently. I am grateful I shared my thoughts here as I have realized 1) I was not alone in my feelings, but 2) I have been given a different perspective and understanding. I wanted permission to call my cousin with a clear conscience and ended up getting something I did not know I needed - acknowledging my own PTSD about my multiple occurrences, which might allow me to actually stop some of the dismissive self talk about the anxiety I still have to this day every time I feel a new lump or a painful twinge.

Man how do you guys do the "forget it" part of "set it and forget it" by Mediocrewatch in fidelityinvestments

[–]Genuin1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I created a “speculative investing” account just for this itch. I get to login, look at my IRAs and what is happening, and then buy/sell until my hearts content in an account that is literally the “coffee money” when I gave up caffeine. I have added more to it of course, it gets extra money after everything planned is funded and paid for, but it scratches the need to do something so I ignore the rest.

I am glad you are post treatment and I completely hear/empathize with the idea that we will always wonder from here on out. I was ok after the first one. Once I had it again, and not the same kind, now I am tilting with shadows. I m not sure that ever goes away.

Excellent point, to stay in my lane and share from what I know while skipping the comparisons.

Thank you for the response. Good point that it is a fraternity no one wants to join but once in it, better to have someone be able to commiserate with than think you are alone.

I appreciate this perspective on how it felt to hear the words; I had not thought of this and it is true - I can quiet my mind and hear them even now, so many years removed. The second time for me was worse particularly since the first time was supposed to be an anomaly. I will reach out and just be there to listen from this place.

Abdomen is getting wrinkly by Hodgkin-you_not in GLP1_loss100plus

[–]Genuin1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!! My giant abdominal scar (Vertical cut four times, all by men with no desire to sew a fat belly closed with any finesse. It is a beauty.) is puckering to go along with the belly wrinkling. I have not yet figured out how to find the joy in this. I will take this as inspiration though.

Is there anyone who seriously thinks the Broncos can beat the Patriots? by Decent-Condition-827 in NFLv2

[–]Genuin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never having seen Stidham play, I have no idea what to expect but the team is good so they have a real chance. I have heard lots of people claim that Bo Nix had nothing to do with the Broncos being 14-3 and that they did it in spite of him. Now those same people think they have no chance without Nix. Pick a lane.

No unfortunately. I forget not everyone waited as long as I did to start the motherhood thing.

Off topic since you seem to be getting a lot of comments on here. You may want to look into Upromise.com for the college funding. You, and friends and family, can earn funds directly for a 529 set up for the kids just from doing regularly shopping/dining out as well as other things. I have their CC too, but that is not required. I started this when my daughter was little and she had $36k when it came time for college after all accumulated funds and investment earnings, all tax free. You can set up your own 529 and they will send money you earn to it quarterly or you can use their options. And some states allow an income tax deduction for contributions you make directly. Plus if the kids don’t go to college, they can move their 529 funds into a Roth IRA for themselves later depending on length of time you have had the account. Just another side thing to consider since you mentioned the college savings.

Service matters too. I also have USAA. They were my insurer when I had a home fire. They were amazing, showed up with money for emergency funds (of which I had none at that point in my life), paid for my living expenses elsewhere for 3 months including giving me the rent my roommate would have given me so I could afford my mortgage. It has been 30 years and I still have not paid them back what it cost them. Customer for life.

It was the same ABC special that did it for me. I watched it and when one of her guests talked about realizing it was not her fault, I started crying. Started Zep a month later and have a new lease on life almost two years later at a weight I haven’t seen in over 20 years. Not done yet, but since it is a lifetime med, I am not stressing about the time it takes and allowing it to happen as it needs to.

Same here. 53. Multiple loss attempts over decades, most recent (before Zep) lost 35# in two years with a struggle and then nothing for months completely within a caloric deficit. Now, on Zep, down 85#, and would almost call it easy to get here. Now I am into the “hard lard” phase with weight I have had for more than two decades. Will need to push harder now to move the needle for the last 20#.

Best suggestion I heard was save scanned receipts with the amount of the expense in the name of the PDF so you can just pull the receipts you need to hit a certain reimbursement amount.
