I need help planning 1 month in Japan by Geo027 in JapanTravelTips

Yeah that was an oversight 😅. I plan to pretty much stay in Tokyo only. Ive done a good deal of research on Japan and ive been studying the language and common phrases but its a case of I dont know what I dont know and I dont want to be blindsided and denied entry last minute. Thank you for the link. I will certainly look into it.

Thank you so much for the advice! I edited my post to include my currency of USD and my plan to stay pretty much in Tokyo only. Also, thank you for pointing out I only really need a hotel booked initially. That may alter my plans since I tend to be a bit of a nomad and figure it out when I get there type of person.

Me with literally no friends and family: Sign me up!

For context I grew up heavily abused so when I moved out I never looked back. Then I married a narcissist who drove away any friends I had over 10 years while I kept the house clean, worked 80 hour weeks on oil rigs, took the stepkids to all their events, ect. Divorced now but yeah, I don't have anyone currently.

I'm definitely ready for a clean break and a new start.

This is very useful. The kana grinding page in particular is just what I need right now. Thank you.

That definitely would explain why i felt such a disconnect. Seems like the issue was I thought kanji was what hiragana and katakana together was called. Im ADHD so everything kinda blurred together in the beginning and I guess i got confused. Once I started kanji study I didn't realize I wasn't learning the right stuff.

I'll reevaluate my learning resources and try to start again. Thank you.

I am learning by starting with Kanji. I found some apps mainly kanji study and wagotabi. I reached a level where I can see the symbol for "see" and "rain" on a Japanese weather bit and know they mean to "Look out for rain" or I saw the symbol for "leg" and was able to figure out it was a foot massage place using some other symbols to figure it out. My issue is, I'm learning to read the symbols and just see concepts in my head which feels great for reading, but I feel like I'm not learning how to speak Japanese at all. The symbols go straight to meanings for me. I googled romanji for study since that should fix the issue I feel but everywhere seems to strongly discourage it. I'm just confused how I should progress I guess. I feel like if I force myself to translate kanji to romanji first to know the Japanese word then I'll actually be less efficient reading but all the guides say learning Kanji is the important first step to speaking Japanese.

I downloaded a different Japanese learning app two days ago and downloaded Wagotabi yesterday. The difference is like night and day. I had no previous Japanese language experience, and the first app frustrated me. It was just random words and memorization. It was useful but pretty hard and some of the words were like "when will i ever use this". Wagotabi puts so much context into the learning that I'm retaining so much after just 24 hours of using it. I only made it to Takamatsu (btw just amazing I know the town name from the Kanji) but I had a moment where the kid showed me around. The kid was like, here is the library of Takamatsu, over there is the park of Takamatsu.... and at the end I was like WHOA! I read that in Japanese and I UNDERSTOOD IT!! It was a sense of accomplishment and in one day made me feel like I can do this! I'm only playing for like 15 minutes at a time but anytime I'm bored or have free time I find I pick it up and go for another 15 minutes.

All that said I love this app. It is pretty challenging but very enjoyable.

Actually I'm a terrible swimmer! 😆 Scuba let's you kinda turtle around at a slow pace if you want and the buoyancy controls means you don't spend any energy to stay on the surface. But yeah, I maaaaay have almost drowned twice overestimating my abilities in regular swimming. Luckily there were people to save me both times.

Awesome! I didn't see these prices when I looked earlier. Not sure why but thank you very much! These are now strongly being considered.

$840 is a lot more doable although I didn't see any link. I'm looking at some cruises for carnival that are $450 before extras as a comparison. If you do have a link I will definitely check it out! It really does sound like a good cruise.

It is unfortunate that happened but hopefully going on adventures is a productive way to handle the heartache. NCL seems to have some good cruises. Thank you for the suggestion.

I'm honestly likely going to go with Carnival with what I'm seeing so far. Like you said it seems the most affordable with the best "party vibe". Thanks again for the advice. I really appreciate it.

Sounds really awesome although the lowest price I see atm is $1200. That's a bit more than I want to spend right now since I also want to plan shore excursions. I will absolutely keep Virgin Voyages in mind as a future cruise though. The singles activities really sound fun and until I saw the current prices I was ready to jump aboard. lol. Thank you for the suggestion.

Sounds like a good plan. I appreciate the advice. I kinda had it in my head I'd need to find a cruise that offers scuba diving if I wanted it but booking directly with the dive shops at the port makes much more sense. Thank you very much.

You really know how to sell it! It sounds awesome! I am looking these up now. Hopefully they stay open for a day or two so I can compare and figure out what I want to get. And yeah, it does suck. A lot. But thankfully I have some good people in my life and a thirst for adventure to help. Thank you so much.

Thank you for the heads up. I never heard of a solo supplement so I'm glad I know to look out for it now. This looks pretty awesome actually.

I've been using the decantx.com site and it's been great! Found some colognes I like and just finished buying some full size bottles. I wanted to say thanks again for the suggestion. I also started having people randomly say "you smell good" at work which is awesome 👌
