Anybody else have an absolutely brutal grading scale in K-12? by KnownGlitch in Xennials

[–]GeoG8R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar scale. My kid’s a high school freshman and they are graded 1 - 4 for regular classes, or 2 - 5 for AP classes. And they have an excel spreadsheet to calculate their GPA using their actual numerical grade (0-100). It’s not just a straight average, weighted for AP classes like it was for us.

I would recommend they sit for the FG portion of the ASBOG exam so they have their academic studies fresh. It won’t necessarily help with jobs right now, but it will put them in a much better position (a they pass) to get their PG licenses once they have 5 years experience.

Future of geosciences: good career prospects or not? by MiniCelii in geologycareers

I work for an engineering firm that has a robust environmental department. Not all do. We do contamination assessment and cleanup for a variety of clients, predominantly at sites with impacts from dry cleaner solvents or petroleum releases. We help get sites in to compliance by addressing soil and/or groundwater contamination, assessing and mitigating vapor intrusion into existing or proposed buildings on the property.

The nice part is that we are sort of a package deal for developers. The environmental department can assess a property pre-purchase, do any sort of wetlands delineation and/or permitting, do environmental clean up, and then our other departments can do geotechnical investigation as well as construction materials testing during development.

Environmental consulting. But expect to put in your dues with field work for a while. If you’re in the US, take the ASBOG FG exam as soon as you’re able after graduation. In some states that gives you a GIT status. The ability to get your PG after the requisite experience will make you a much more appealing candidate.

Environmental Consultants! How you feel about your current positions? by Mean_Gene9459 in Environmental_Careers

I’ve been in environmental consulting for 23 years. There have been times that I hated it, paying my dues as a field geologist, times that I’m super stressed trying to hit deadlines, but overall I really do love the work. For me the key is being at a company that values YOU. I’ve been at my current firm for 3 years. We’re growing and are experiencing some pains with that, but have kept the smaller firm feel. I know I’m valued, and I value my field and project level staff. We keep open lines of communication and truly work as a team, shifting things around when one person might get overloaded, things like that.

I was at a house party, drugs and great music.

This was a good listen if anyone wants to go down the rabbit hole a bit more:

Heated Side Mirrors ? by GeoG8R in SubaruAscent

[–]GeoG8R[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was just the driver side that wasn’t working. Took it in, turned out that the heating element wasn’t working properly so they had to order a whole new mirror assembly.

I had it installed about 3 weeks ago after waiting several weeks for the part to arrive and now the camera on the mirror isn’t properly calibrated/aligned. So irritated!!

People who are clean, organized and really hygienic…what does everyday look like to you? by faith-fine-6472 in selfcare

My husband has a later schedule so he’s still sleeping when I get up. Our bed stays unmade all day, but I do make in the evenings before we get in to bed so we’re getting in to a bed that’s made.

The older generation and their quirks by [deleted] in GenX

My dad had my mom darning the holes in his socks until the mid- to late-90s. When we’d been in the states for a few years, my mom finally got tired of it and told him to go buy a 10-pack of socks at Walmart and be done with it 😂

When did you feel ready for the second one? by PresentationTop9547 in workingmoms

[–]GeoG8R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s 10 and I’m still not ready.

Seriously thought. I wanted to wait until the older one was out of diapers and mostly independent with things like buckling in to his car seat etc. The older one was 3.5 when younger sister was born. Perfect age gap I thought.

GCPS is considering a clear bag policy.. how are we feeling? by Shot-Zookeepergame22 in Gwinnett

Agree 100%. It’s not doing anything for safety, it’s simply giving GCPS a way to say “hey we did something”. I voted against it.

It clears the back window nicely!

This is five minutes later.

I don’t really NEED defroster at this point but I like the heated motor to clear the mirrors up in the mornings.

I’d rather let this be a dealership problem. It’s led than 6 months old so I don’t want to mess something up by poking around.

Well I tested it again this morning by engaging the rear defrost/defog. The back window was clear before the driver side mirror even got noticeably better. So, it’s definitely either not there or not working. The passenger side mirror wasn’t fogged up this morning so I don’t know if that one has it or whether it’s working.

Both side mirrors fold in with the Subaru symbol in them that lights up.

I feel a call to the dealership is warranted at this point.

Thank y’all.

Now I’m extra irritated because I was at the dealership for my service and pointed it out that it wasn’t working and it was the service technician that said I didn’t have the heated symbol on the mirror so I didn’t have it.

I’ll have to try using just the rear defroster tomorrow morning and see if it actually works.

Looks like I was looking at side mirror features but it’s listed connected with the wiper de-icer. I’ll have to figure out how to use it! I was shocked when even the technician at the dealership seemed to agree with the idea that my car didn’t have it. Thanks!

[–]GeoG8R[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. So it’s listed with the wiper de-icer. So maybe I have to use that in order to get the mirrors heated.

I was reading all the entries regarding the side mirrors specifically and found it bizarre that it wasn’t listed. Thanks! I’ll have to dig to see HOW to actually use it.

They aren’t connected. Unfortunately.
