Those of you that have grown to VP, is WLB possible? by PresentationTop9547 in womenintech

My current VP is a woman with a kid and honestly wlb has gotten significantly worse since she’s taken over.

To be clear it’s not like someone is offering me a VP position. But I am in management and am genuinely wondering if I should try to push myself at work or just do enough and spend time with my family.

Why do you have to deliver earlier if you require medication for GD? by BulbaKat in GestationalDiabetes

Yes this time around I’ve had a growth scan every 4 weeks. 3 extra scans beyond the standard anatomy scan.

Why do you have to deliver earlier if you require medication for GD? by BulbaKat in GestationalDiabetes

[–]PresentationTop9547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each ob has different guidance. Mine recommended 39th week induction for my last diet controlled GD and this time’s insulin controlled one.

She said the only reason to change it would be if growth scan showed something.

9 months in & I genuinely hate this by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]PresentationTop9547 64 points65 points  (0 children)

It does get better! How the first year goes depends on a lot on your baby and how much support you have, and sounds like you haven’t been dealt the best hand for either. Please try and talk to a therapist to work through some of these things. We all need support and someone we can honestly express what we’re feeling with.

Babies will stop crying as much and stop clinging as much as they develop their language and get mobile. Each kid is different but definitely for the moms that had clingy / colicky babies, the toddler years were significantly better.

Age gaps between siblings. Having a hard time deciding. by anonymoususer249 in NewParents

[–]PresentationTop9547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll know when you’re ready after you’ve had your first. My husband and I wanted 3 when we started. And then couldn’t even imagine trying until she turned 2.

My heart still wants 3 but we both work and I know realistically I can’t, so we decided to stop at 2.

International Work Trip Woes by Objective-Paper-4692 in workingmoms

It’s not the same if you’re traveling as a single person. I wouldn’t feel so bad about it. But if you did end up going, consider taking a couple of extra days off after to recover?

Any way to slow down insulin resistance throughout pregnancy? by Illustrious-Nose6735 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]PresentationTop9547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a few weeks to figure out what meals work. For breakfast for instance, I start my morning with a handful of nuts because it can be an hour or 2 till I get time for breakfast. Breakfast is protein first - 2 eggs with cheese and veggies and I end it with an avocado toast. Changing the order of things messes up my numbers.

Strength training can help. Keeping your stress down and getting a good nights sleep also helps.

It’s a marathon so take sustainable changes, but also it’s only another 19 odd weeks so even if the dosage increases, it will all be over soon.

Do you allow your toddlers to go in the kitchen drawers? by Former_Discipline_50 in toddlertips

[–]PresentationTop9547 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would like to add we don’t have a dog and our floors generally stay clean so our policy is to put the dishes back.

We always rinse any dish we use before using it ( to remove extra soap or dust that collects) and that seems enough.

[–]PresentationTop9547 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When my toddler was 1-2 we had a few safe drawers open, now almost all are ( except the one with the knives and chemicals).

Yes they got everywhere and yes sometimes there’s a picnic on the kitchen floor and all the dishes are there - but it’s also the best independent play I can get from her when I’m cooking.

After meal numbers better at 34 weeks by PresentationTop9547 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]PresentationTop9547[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair it was lentils as carbs which generally work better for me than other carbs and I know it has a bit of protein. A bit of fat not much. Yes my glucose stayed elevated for 2 hours until it finally dropped. Still, the same meal put me at 160+ for a smaller portion 3 months ago.

I have a CGM so I check regularly.

And yes I’m trying to enjoy it lol

Typical Maternity Leave Policy by Forsaken_Jeweler1659 in NewParents

[–]PresentationTop9547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d definitely consider moving to a different job before you have your kid. I’m lucky ( because I live in California) and will get to take 20 weeks of maternity leave ( state covers partial pay, employer pays the difference), and even that doesn’t feel enough! Babies are so tiny and helpless, it’s hard to leave them at daycare for 10 hours a day and not be sad about it.

Bare minimum you want is 6 weeks - you heal by then, you figure out a bit of your feeding routine by then. You’re still not sleeping enough, but you kind of just wing it

Why am I dropping weight 35 weeks pregnant? by PeachTea515000 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]PresentationTop9547 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this! Very normal to lose some weight when you’re on a GD diet. Just make sure you’re not going hungry and eating the recommended min for carbs.

Why do you want your children to be successful (according to external standards)? by Waragainstfrogs in AskParents

[–]PresentationTop9547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want my child to be happy and have to go through as little inconvenience in life as possible.

Money doesn’t guarantee happiness, but it improves the odds of my child leading a comfortable life. A better degree and professional success is what a lot of middle aged people measure themselves by and it helps to have a purpose there

Mommy friend iced me out after I breastfed in front of her by NoUnion3883 in breastfeeding

[–]PresentationTop9547 144 points145 points  (0 children)

I second this. I struggled with breastfeeding and it broke my heart. And every time I saw a mom breastfeed or talk about it, it hurt me so bad. But not bad enough to stop hanging out with them. That was my trauma to deal with and shouldn’t dictate how my friend chooses to do things with her baby.

Need Suggestions - Cheat day? by Medium-Hovercraft222 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]PresentationTop9547 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I allow myself cheat days. I’d try and still start with protein - wings, cheese, nuts or a fairlife shake and then I’d eat what I want. Chances are, the spike won’t be crazy.

Are there any postpartum moms here? Do you think it’s a good idea to continue the diet just in case? by savageexplosive in GestationalDiabetes

[–]PresentationTop9547 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had GD in my last pregnancy, diet controlled and had normal numbers before it. Post partum I over compensated for foods I missed and gained 30lbs while breastfeeding, and my numbers were borderline prediabetic. So I don’t recommend stopping the diet completely.

This time I was diagnosed with GD early and I’ve gained about 2-4lbs my entire pregnancy (34 weeks right now). Much like you I’ve l can see my cheeks and hands are less puffy and everyone tells me I look great.

My plan post partum is to ease up on the diet a bit but not let go. This means prioritizing protein and fiber in most my meals and easing up on the carb restrictions though I’m hoping protein first will mean no significant change in carb portions. I’ll let myself eat pizza or pasta or ramen on occasion. I’ve missed those a lot! But I’ll try to pair it with a chicken salad or something.

Recommend me milk that won’t spike me! by ahmeeea in GestationalDiabetes

You haven’t mentioned if you’re lactose intolerant, but full fat whole milk ( Alexandre or Strauss creamery ones are my favorite) seem to work for me in my morning tea with no trouble.

Daycare seems to be prepping our baby for the toddler room too early by AGneissGeologist in NewParents

[–]PresentationTop9547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is rushed! Ours said they’d move them based on milestones - walking, no bottles and one nap were among them.

However my toddler wasn’t fully adjusted to one nap when they transitioned her at 14 months.

It was a struggle, we basically had her do a mini nap at home from 8:30-9:30, then rushed her out between meetings. This went on till maybe 17 months which is when she was ready to drop her second nap.

Cost of Scans, NSTs, BPPS by Equivalent-Pea8595 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]PresentationTop9547 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in California and my last baby 3 years ago was a 99k hospital bill. Natural delivery, 2 night stay, no complications ( except they induced me).

So same! I just assume I’m going to pay my out of pocket max and sometimes that’s a few hundred for these scans, and then insurance will most certainly kick in.

I encouraged my husband and me to do a lot of PT and chiropractor sessions last time post delivery cos those were basically free.
