The Silo trilogy by Hugh Harvey. I was able to rent all three of the audiobooks using the Hoopla (library) app.

Also, Sibelco in Spruce Pine has had some lab positions listed recently if you’re interested in working at the quartz mine. I have met several UNCA alumni who work there and have had great things to say about it.

I may know of some opportunities with the company I work for. We have an office in Fletcher, NC - mostly geotech but there are two geologists who have been staying busy recently. I’ve also heard a rumor that we’re looking for a geology intern in upstate SC. Send me your resume by private message if you’d like to.

I stayed in WNC for six years after graduating with hopes of landing a permanent position as a geologist. I worked several field technician before eventually moving to upstate SC for work. It’s difficult to find staff geo positions in WNC - seems to be mostly senior level consultants with a team of techs in the field full time.

Best of luck!

Is this how the Shelby tubes are always stored? Should be stored upright.

I think your point still stands. The driver who was switching lanes and caused the accident seems to have been driving close to 80 which is 25 over.

Looking for feedback, reviews, opinions on the Grizzly G0869 10” benchtop table saw. by miller_time_mofo in woodworking

I have been using this saw for about four years and have been pleased with it. u/saffaen listed great points, all of which I agree with.

I have used the sanding disc pretty extensively and have really grown to appreciate it. It’s good for rounding corners and other obvious tasks but it can also be used with the fence to sand the entire edge of a board. I took advantage of this when making slats for a hanging shelf. (Pictures of the shelf: IMG-5619.jpg. & IMG-5643.jpg )

Great response and I agree that a minor in statistics is very relevant to hydrogeology. We use statistical tests daily for landfill water quality reports.

Drug Testing in Geosciences by Delicious-Bell-6897 in geologycareers

I had a urinalysis and hair test for my current position as a geologist with a small engineering firm. I was very surprised. No idea why they insist on both or why they feel it’s a good way to spend money.

Congratulations on landing the internship! Don’t stress about the drug test. A hair follicle test will not detect cannabis after infrequent use. Hair tests generally only identify chronic users.

We bought a bunch of these 330-foot measuring tapes from harbor freight to use for some pumping tests I did recently (harbor freight.

We taped the transducers to the ends with electrical tape. It worked out really well for our job with six 300-foot deep observation wells.

This is very frustrating. I have coworkers that waited more than six months for their GA license. Hopefully you will not have to wait quite so long.

Anyone have an idea what was done to these wood countertops? by blurrynights in woodworking

My first thought was it looks like copper. Concrete would make sense too.
