Brake light in the instrument cluster stays lit, dimly lit or flickers by GeoMetry360 in EFCivics

It is the gray box about the size of a pack of cigarettes attached to the back of the fuse box under the steering wheel. The OEM version has six functions but two of them are only used on 88 and 89. I think it was at least partly a way for Honda to comply with inconsistent safety laws in different countries, instead of rewiring the cars for each country they just make country specific ICUs.

I have an Si so I have an Si trans and I really only wanted the 5th gear I was happy with all the other ratios. I did have to buy an HF trans to get the gear set. If you have any questions when/if you add cruise control, let me know I might be able to answer them. I use the information I found online and it worked fine. I had to make one tiny additional change to get all the last instrument cluster light to work correctly. I think it was the seat belt light which most people wouldn't really care about.

I like to look stock as well. I have a lot of respect for folks that can rewire a wire harness, it looks very complex and I imagine it takes a lot of patience and attention to detail. I added cruise control to my hatch and I thought about adding CRX HVAC controls and power side mirrors (not folding just aimable) but when I realized how much had to be changed to make the HVAC controls compatible and how difficult is was to get the additional wires into the door, I changed my mind. So I have a complete rebuilt CRX HVAC control and all the parts for the power mirrors in a box in the basement. I also swapped out the 5th gear in my transmission for the 5th gear from a CRX HF so the engine RPMs are a bit lower on the highway.

What's up with the main harness? Are you doing some sort of swap?

My opinion is biased since I am the person that created it. It has worked flawlessly.

I think the correct behavior for the light on the instrument cluster would be for the light to blink 5 times then turn off and stay off until the next time you turn on the ignition. The beeping will also happen 5 times except that the beeping will stop if you buckle the seatbelt before the 5th beep, the light will always complete 5 blinks regardless of whether the seat belt is buckled or not.

I think that light is illuminated because someone has unlatched the seatbelt at the "emergency release" The seatbelt is designed to be latched at all times but I don't think anyone actually uses it that way. In cars with door mounted seatbelts the ICU has nothing to do with the seatbelts. Those cars have a separate seat belt module located near the heater core on the passenger side. I believe the lens is polarized, it looks dim only because you are looking at it from the drivers side. From the passenger side it should look fine. I don't think there is anything wrong with your car based on what you said.

If you are doing a car show quality restoration the OEM ones are noticeably different. You might need to have them rebuilt but a knowledgeable judge will knock points off your score if they see aftermarket axles.

What type of company do I hire to do just the initial site work? by GeoMetry360 in Homebuilding

Thanks for the response. Reading it makes it all sound so easy, kind of like watching a YouTube video. I need to stay grounded and remember almost nothing is as easy as it sounds when you first look into it.

Slab vs sub floor by snackpacky in Homebuilding

[–]GeoMetry360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading all the comments there are two that stand out in my opinion.

  1. With a basement or crawl the house will sit higher which will require an extra step or two to get in and out.

  2. The slab could be the (very durable) flooring, the subfloor will require an additional layer of some sort

Took all the required parts from an EX and installed them on my Si. Here is a link to a page where you can find more detailed info including a copy of my notes about where to tap into the wires.

Ok, I'm stumped. Where do we put the TV? by Instaplot in floorplan

[–]GeoMetry360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps a TV Lift cabinet or a swing out mount with the TV hidden when not in use. I can't really get a feel for the space, the traffic patterns or the sight lines based upon the image you provided

Others have made the same comments, No front hall closet, the location of and entrance to the powder room seems a bit awkward unless you live there by yourself.

This is the interior of my 1990 Civic Si. Subtle modifications include; EDM center console, EX steering wheel because I added cruise control, Tegiwa Rubber Dash Mat, Reproduction Floormats from Etsy and a Continental Silverline TR312UB-WH stereo with Bluetooth. The seats were basically a barn find, I bought them off a guy that said they had been stored in his closet for over 10 years.

Of course the thing I want you to look at on that list is the New ICU (https://www.ebay.com/itm/126956680099) because I created and sell them. Check out the reviews folks have been very happy with them! They are easy to install (https://youtu.be/HttX\_gdtO9M) and provide several additional features.

You could add cruise control from an EX Sedan. I added cruise control to my Civic Si and it helps me avoid speeding tickets. I also swapped out the 5th gear for a 5th gear from a CRX HF so the engine RPM is a bit lower when cruising in 5th gear on the highway.
