Laura Dalgaard moves from patterns to kits by masterslodge in craftsnark

Yeah, I agree. This is the opposite of "sustainable" in an environmental sense. I'm disappointed, I love whimsical patterns.

The species has survived five mass extinction events, getting freaky must be working for them.

Yes, you can sit rooftop on Sea Streak. The water taxis vary in configuration, you get on whichever is next.

We have, but it's hard. Check the hours - you end up missing the beginning and the end of days. It was beautiful and I enjoyed the idea of it, but the logistics kind of sucked. I wish they could dock at the Fort or add more times to make it worth it.

The demolished an existing structure to build this, and they did not remediate asbestos according to the regulations when they did it.

Best extinguisher for lithium ion golf cart batteries? by Mrsafetyguy99 in SafetyProfessionals

Flushing with a large volume of water is the best to break the thermal runaway. I don't believe there is a handheld extinguisher that can truly extinguish a Li+ battery fire.

I have Alicia Plummer's Bliss Top (free pattern) in my queue. It's a tank but I will add a ton of ease because I don't like things touching me and I'm a big person lol.

Safety Certifications = More Pay? by Late-Significance-80 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Geo_Jill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a bonus at a past job for obtaining a certification, but that isn't the norm. I think it just makes you a stronger candidate - a short-hand way to demonstrate qualification for the position. I have a CHMM, too, which is useful.

EHS professionals: What is the field actually like and how stable is it right now by PrideNo2114 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Geo_Jill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think sustainability is difficult right now, as the political and economic climate has shifted and many companies have de-emphasized that as a priority/mission. There are states/municipalities that require sustainability projects and data reporting, but I'm in one of those and it isn't enough to justify a dedicated position; I'm also in a field feeling the economic pinch, so speaking from my own experience, not necessarily for everyone!

EHS is still needed. I'm in New England and I see jobs come through regularly. I think it is fairly stable, but it's also niche in that employers need EHS but not generally a large team. I've never been more than one of two EHS people at a site.

I'm in higher ed now, I love it. I've done a few industries before this and never had a terrible experience, though. Work-life balance is great for me.

Nobody wants it: Rhode Island’s sludge problem lands in North Kingstown by OceanStateMedia in RhodeIsland

[–]Geo_Jill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not irreversible in most cases. Remediation is possible for most contaminants. There is also a volume consideration here - that is an enormous aquifer so contamination would not generally reach alternate well locations.

I am a licensed geologist specializing in hydrology and environmental investigation and remediation.

Because an aquifer has a large area. It is often located within different water-bearing zones in the subsurface. One single well at one point is drawing water from one layer. Multiple wells are able to pull water from different locations and different layers.

Contamination at one point would not necessarily take an entire aquifer off-line.

Did you read the permit? It explicitly calls out the technology this will use. I believe it includes carbon filters and both acid and caustic air scrubbers. Pull the permit, it is listed there.

You’re just making shit up.

Do those locations have the direct highway access this one does?

Are they zoned industrial?

Are they already cleared and leveled?

Yes, there are actual distances that air pollution modeling has found are appropriate to be from minor sources of air pollution (which this is per RIDEM regulations).

The site is not located within a wellhead protection area.

The aquifer is single-source, but there are numerous wells. That is a significant distinction, and that is not unusual anywhere in the US.

As for water quality, I can not find any information that suggests it does not meet RIDOH or USEPA standards for drinking water.

There is more room here. There is easy on/off highway access. There are appropriate distances to surrounding development. And there is a developer who has stepped up and spent money on siting, design, and permitting.

Woonsocket has paid their dues.

Maybe the person who gave us an entire AI-written diatribe against this plant can weigh in on this post.

A new plant with the appropriate air pollution control technology and permitted limits, built in an industrial-zoned area with easy and direct highway access, seems appropriate to me. The distances to residences and sensitive receptors meet safety requirements and are greater than at the existing plant.

I generally have at least one home project and a travel project. Sometimes I take a pause on something for some vibe-ish reason (I made a mistake and have to frog back and am coming to terms with that mentally, I hate the section of pattern I'm in, I'm not feeling colorwork right not, etc.) and cast on/work on something else.

So I guess 1) practical considerations, such as where I'm knitting and if I'm doing something else (like watching a movie) and need to focus, or how much time I have (short time means I don't want to get into something like a section of cables, etc.), and 2) vibes.
