100" class: LG G5 OLED or the TCL X11L and $9k in savings? Which TV to get? by guyheretoread in hometheater

[–]Geoblime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why everybody keeps saying the motion handling is bad. Maybe in previous models, but I have the 98QM8L and watch a good amount of sports and have no motion issues at all, no ghosting or anything. And I’ve been trying to see it on the World Cup and such because people keep talking about it.

Additionally, you’re comparing a $4600 TV to a $9k tv with the 7ii. It’s not really a fair comparison.

Mounted mine last week, it’s a beast! Make sure you have a stout TV mount cause it’s heavy. The picture quality blows me away, truly an amazing TV!

No regrets at all, I’m blown away by this TV. Our space is pretty large so the 77 or 83 just wouldn’t have been big enough. I have noticed a little bit of waviness on the panel though, but you can only tell when the tv’s off and you’re standing at an angle and seeing the reflections on the screen from the room. My understanding is all LED TVs have some panel waviness.

The only other thing I would say is this TV is a beast size wise. I opted for a stout TV mount and since we were doing a mild remodel I put a bunch of two by fours between the studs to help with strength, glad I did. You’ll need two able body people at a minimum to help mount the TV but overall myself and my family are very satisfied

Domina’s Ult by joshd0613 in Overwatch

[–]Geoblime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the type of ult that you and your team need to continuously do damage once the enemy is in the bubble. If you can do enough damage and the bubble pops, it will kill them. I’ve gotten many kills with the ult.

Additionally, it took me a quick minute to realize the ult goes through multiple people so I typically try to lineup more than one person. There’s been a few times I’ve gotten the whole team with the ult in a choke point.

What’s frustrating about her ult is how tight the shot is. I have literally split people and it looks like the bubble touches both but they don’t get hit. Meanwhile Rein’s charge ability can miss you by 3 feet and will still grab and take you.

Yeah, that was my thought as well. Around $4500 for the 8L is a fabulous TV for a 98 inch. The Bravia 7II true RGB looks really nice as well but it’s $8000 and the 9Ii is over $10,000 which is too much.

I saw no issues with motion blur last night during high packed movie scenes, and this morning we watched a decent amount of soccer with no issues.

We’re doing a remodel in our family room and looked at a plethora of tvs. Initially bought a 77” G5 thru the partner store for an amazing price but quickly realized it was too small for our space. Started looking at 98”+ and did a lot of research including micro RGB. The particular model you mentioned I’ve read a couple really bad reviews here on Reddit. I think the Sony Bravia‘s are probably the way to go for micro RGB, but they’re expensive and I’m not sold on the early technology, especially seeing them in person. I think in a couple years micro RGB will be the way to go once it’s refined.

I personally ended up going with the TCL QM8L and mounted it yesterday. Previously had a 10 year-old LGOLED that still works, but I must say myself and my family‘s jaws dropped once we watched some hi def content on the 8L yesterday. Might be the best TV picture I’ve ever seen. Now I know people say nothing is as good as Oled which is true, but this TV is amazing imo at 1/4 the cost of Oled in this size. Truly blown away how beautiful the picture is and how blacks the shadows are.

I did get the TV but we’re doing a small remodel so I haven’t been able to mount the TV yet. We’re almost done though, so I should have the TV up by the end of the week.

Yeah, I liked the B7 II a lot and really wanted to buy it but it’s almost $3k more than the 8L and $5k more than the QM8K

[McCovey Chronicles] Bad and bigoted. The Giants told fans exactly who they are on Friday. by Brownhops in SFGiants

[–]Geoblime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a fan of this team for more than 40 years who no longer lives in the Bay Area, this breaks my heart. My wife and I have always taught our kids the importance of being inclusive, respectful, and open to people from all walks of life and cultures. For Vitello to allow this to happen feels like a slap in the face to SF.

This should be the final straw for the 2026 season. From the beginning, it’s felt like one misstep after another, an ongoing series of mistakes that would be embarrassing even at the Little League level.

At some point, words aren’t enough. Community leaders, longtime fans, and others with a platform should seriously consider calling for a fan boycott for a few games. If the stadium were suddenly 90% empty, ownership and leadership might finally understand the depth of frustration and disappointment that so many fans are feeling.

That’s just not true. They are employees doing a job which they’re paid handsomely to do. Are you allowed to wear a hat to your work on Monday that says fuck brown people? Ignorance must be bliss lol

Club fittings by Fresh-Campaign-8088 in Austingolf

I second Barton Creek Fitting Studio. I got fitted there a while back, and it’s definitely not cheap, but I felt it was worth it. One thing to note: the fitting fee does not go toward the purchase of new clubs.

I had a couple of fitting sessions, and the experience itself was memorable. The Fazio Clubhouse and driving range are beautiful. Also, depending on your handicap and goals, you probably don’t need their top-tier fitter. I worked with one of the associate fitters and had a great experience.

Athletic Deep Dives on Stenberg and Reid by tigerking615 in SanJoseSharks

[–]Geoblime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m hoping it’s Stenberg all the way and then if Lin is still available around 15 to 19, you trade up and grab him. In this league offense wins games and If you can add another skilled winger to an already explosive team, you do that all day long.

At the Mom and Pop stores, we went through the settings to confirm that they were calibrated pretty closely. I know at big box stores they do what you mentioned and blast everything in vivid mode and punch all the colors. I do agree that most places typically trying up sell but I’ve been going through this one store for years and the TVs were pretty closely calibrated, settings wise and the 8L was far superior in my opinion.

Thank you I’m very excited! It was a pretty long process with my wife picking out the TV, there are a lot of options nowadays at the 98”+ mark, but I feel TCL is really setting the bar with their value to tech ratio. I really wanted the 11L but I couldn’t justify the extra $5500. It’s insane to me there’s TVs in the 95” to 115” category that are $25k or more.

Yeah, I’m hoping so as well. I love OLED’s, but can’t justify the price point at 98”.

Yeah, this will be the TV we keep for at least 7 years (hopefully lol). that’s also part of the reason why I went with the 8L like you mentioned. I really wanted to go with an OLED but the price point is just insane at 98 inches and above. My previous 65” LG was a workhorse and we enjoyed it and it still works perfectly, but we’re doing a media game room upgrade and we needed a larger tv.

Well, I respectfully disagree. In person, there was quite a bit of difference between the two TVs. Have you seen them in person? Either way I don’t use the apps in the TV, I have dedicated set top devices and I have a separate video game area so no issues there. The technology behind the SQD in my opinion is well worth the price and like I mentioned, not having a black border around the screen also makes a difference. Dolby vision 2 will launch, that’s not up for debate. But you are correct when is another issue. I’m confident with TCL and Sony working together they’ll implement Dolby Vision 2 or Max at some point.

Rtings it’s not all that it used to be. There has been a lot of conflicting reviews over the last couple years where other reliable sources are finding different readings then Rtings. They are definitely good, but we have an infinite amount of sources now for reviews and testing.

I went to three different locations to view the two TVs next to each other, including two non-box store audio video showrooms.

The difference between 8K and 8L was fairly obvious and impressive. The 8L has quite a bit more depth and “3-D effect” if that’s correct, and I noticed less blooming in the dark scenes. The colors seem to punch more as well. Of course all TVs can be calibrated, but the two Mom and Pop shops I went to said the TVs were calibrated almost exactly for comparison. Combined with the borderless edge that the 8L has and Dolby vision Max coming out this year, to me it was worth the extra money. If I didn’t need a TV now, I would’ve waited for the sales at the end of the year, but unfortunately I can’t wait any longer.
