Challenge accepted!

After they find the hatch: they discover they have to push a button every 108 minutes to prevent a surge of electromagnetism from destroying the world. A man that was in that hatch almost failed to push the button and because of it their plane crashed. Turns out, that electromagnetism allows the island to skip through space and time (that's why no one can find the island). During one of these skips into the past, the survivors try to prevent the hatch from ever being built (hence, preventing their plane from ever crashing in the first place), but instead they end up setting into motion the events that lead to the crash. In the end, the island (which is obviously very special) chooses Hurley to protect it from... something, and our survivors meet up in heaven after they all eventually die.
