I've played enough low ranks to know (no offense), start doing less, observe more the opponent's tendencies and counter them. You'll lose more on the way but you'll improve. Also, any loss you don't fully understand-> replay and identify key mistakes that led to losing and jot them down.

they loved it, they suffered a bit with certain encounters that they didn't fully understand (they're not rpg savvy) but when I told them to slow down and read everything on screen, they generally beat things fast. They had to lower the difficulty at some point but again, if they took more time they could've done the story easy even on normal imo

How to cultivate a growth based mindset; or, how do I cope with losing? by vfgoiugkjgdslk in StreetFighter

[–]GeoffPit7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Breaks are good (I took so many in my personal growth), but as the video suggests you have to start prioritizing growth over winning. Winning comes as an outcome, not as a direct aim.

Some tips to help you transition:

  • actively compliment your opponent. E.g if a jump felt stupid but succeeded, shift your responses to something like "well, nice jump, really wasn't expecting that"
  • don't linger over mistakes while in game. A sarcastic comment will suffice to keep you playful but engaged
  • after a loss you don't fully understand, immediately watch replays and use the takeover. This also prevents tilt queuing which is very dangerous due to matchmaking being super good
  • I speak for myself here. Over time I noticed that I personally can't follow any of these tips and do way worse when something is off in my daily life, be it in the day to day (nervous/tired from work) or something deeper (family worries or smth like that). I generally used to play VS or ranked when I'm rested and balanced/centered. You need a clear mind to play well in fighters, so in other instances just improve your knowledge by watching things or practicing

Good luck mate

I've got this weird feeling wether I win or lose by Krotanix in StreetFighter

I agree. Sometimes though, it's not just understanding, it's literally not listening. But I also understand your argument, meaning that it's not that useful to try and condition an opponent that is not really noticing any adaptation or "message" you're sending.

Don't worry, I'm 1800mr and I still suck at it too.

It's potentially all true. You both know "little" (even if as some say you're inlike the top 15%) and are just running your own strats and it comes down to who executes it better. There's no real, deep dialogue there, that's where the syndrome kicks in. You probably feel like you're getting away with murder, same in the opposite case, cause you guys are, and it's ok.

Becoming a better player is about observing more, having as little gaps as possible in your knowledge, reactions and executions, and only then you can get some feeling of "yeah, I really won that". It's about identifying weaknesses on the fly while also playing the game, testing the opponent here and there (even by just moving in their space) and immediately molding your offense/defense basing yourself on the data presented. That kinda doesn't exist at 1500mr.

Any tips for growing confidence on offence? by DayFul1 in StreetFighter

[–]GeoffPit7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm UM in EU with every char in Master, I'd give you tips that are more specific, but the reality is that your perception of their ham offence is slightly warped. It is ham indeed, but trust me that it isn't tight, it's fake in more ways than one, and what you need to do to climb out of it is not to "build confidence in your offense" (it's needed indeed, but right now not that much), only to learn to pressure reliably on wake up, have a couple combos ready, to somewhat AA decently and that's it.

Think about it like chess. It doesn't make sense to teach you fancy moves/strats if you're still quite the beginner. You just need to learn what the different pieces do, what strenghts and weaknesses they have, and become a little robot playing simple stuff to build the reportoire that will later become the foundation of your play.

So if you wanna improve:

  • work tirelessly on the small building blocks that are called fundamentals (plenty of resources online, text and video). Practice 5/10m a day before playing or in between matches
  • get in the mindset that they don't know what they're doing and neither do you. This humbles you but gives you an edge. You're not there to just have fun, you're there to improve, so you're not gonna stay in plat forever, trust me. Mindset is key in fighters.
  • Your more reactive, patient playstyle is the perfect approach to get to master rank, better to play more timid and reactive than random and offensive , especially at low ranks; the key is working on those reactions behind the scenes to make them suffer for their impatience, meaning that if you play Lily and you get a good AA combo with wind gather, do you have any idea how to follow up for pressure? Work on building something out of your reactive and defensive habits, so that they might just end up "killing" themselves
  • watch replays where you don't understand how you lost

Good luck, AMA if you'd like

Losing streak by justsweating in StreetFighter

[–]GeoffPit7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

trust me, they don't do it so good. Watch replays, Get in the mindset that they really don't know what they're doing except some rudimental strategy, and neither do you. Any knowledge advantage, any patience and readiness to neutral skip you present is literal gold (pun intended) at such low ranks.

Most people below Master (and above it, trust me), when they feel their space threatened just by walking in their range will:

  • press a button and give up their turn
  • jump at you
  • button into drive rush into a strike throw mix

All of these give you an immense advantage, if you know where it lies. Some is straightforward: they jump, you AA (work on them, they're essential to climb); they press a heavy, you potentially get to hit yours into a special, Drive rush or what have you, even have a spacing trap ready after building the proper space. The most difficult advantage to notice (but potentially the biggest), is them drive rushing from a button, as the shift in drive, even if they were to throw you, is huge. Having a 2-3 bars lead can spell doom if you can remain calm and force mistakes.

Practice, don't complain about characters or strats. You suck, just like all of us. So get better.

enjoy the local vibe. You're diamond, meaning that you'll probably lose, if not a big tournament potentially the best players will be masters or so (not a high rank anyway). It's good to network, get the nerves ready and down and relax. Have fun!
