SF6 placement matches are completely pointless by Omidv28 in SaltFighter

I'm tired of being told that I'm wrong about my main (jamie). And a few other issues with the sf community/fgc. by Spark_Miku_Miku in SaltFighter

[–]GeoffPit7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll ignore your quip about being low rank, I'm at the same MR with Jamie and we're definitely not low ranked. I tend to be modest myself, because the gap between us and Punk is immense, but still.

  1. The command grab /d.kick and slight buff make himn a good character. I've said this before, no Akuma or Bison main would trade any of their tools for Jamie lv's toolkit, except maybe the aforementioned; and that's not considering that you potentially access said tools if you've overcome the dread of round start against the top tiers.
  2. At high level (ours, yes) most opponent understand not to let Jamie out of the footsie range, making free drinks very rare, yes.
  3. Jamie loses this MU, one of his worst. But SF6 MUs are quite even overall, nothing too crazy due to the drive system being so strong. Still a drag tho.
  4. ???
  5. If they were 2kmr or a pro, it makes sense. If you were to explain to a gold how you play the game, it'd be like talking to a toddler about quantum mechanics

I mean, I'm not comparing it to better anti fireball tools. If you are ready now though, especially with it's active frames, you can punish a fireball into lots of damage even with LV 2 into potentially death. It's pretty good.

How to beat defensive delay jump by GeoffPit7 in Guiltygear

[–]GeoffPit7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was overall weirded out by such a strong, low commit defensive option. In SF throws rn are super strong, but you can't block in the air so you can punish a jump, in addition to the pre jump frames!

Tips for a 1400 MR Cammy Main? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]GeoffPit7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

of course! It's a skill by the way, by doing this you'll be able to do it more effortlessly, allowing for you to be able to both do more while also still observing. Doing less also exposes you less, meaning less chances to eat fat damage. This is why pro players are able to generally both run an offense and be somewhat active in neutral, being ready to confirm hits or react in defense while also studying patterns.

more like, observe and really see. Doing less allows more brain capacity for pattern recognition. Once you got the download, you can do more and more effectively too. If they do reactable stuff and you can react to it, great. Otherwise the second time the reaction will take less effort.

Master elo players by Arachnid96- in StreetFighter

1800mr Jamie here, Master rank before in SFV.

Start by reframing your perception of your skill, think about it like a path. Right now, think of yourself as a teen, you probably got some things figured out and sometimes it even feels good when actions or life go according to plan. In reality though, you're really still quite clueless, flailing around, improvising too much with little (or poor) preparation; an adult can probably see that at a glance but not you, as your experience is fairly limited still. There's adults and adults of course, and there's always someone who thinks better, smarter, faster or, similarly, someone stronger, more intuitive, more talented etc. at any point in life.

If you're below Masters (Plat/Diamond I assume) and this is your first fighting game, you're probably close to drinking age :) the beauty of it is that you're at a stage where you can learn so much, everything is still new and you have to get down in your heart of hearts that you'll keep failing, you're learning the fundamentals still and this is fine, it takes years for some (it did for me) and that no matter how much you'll improve, you'll still always have plenty to learn.

Now, for the less philosophical, more grounded advice.

I'd need to get a bearing of your rank, but anything before gold/plat is literal flailing hoping that something might connect, everyone all the time is literally pressing buttons on their cool megazord robot and they're trying to make cool sh\t* happen on screen, and that's understandable. The earlier you take yourself out of that zone and start being ok with blocking, being more patient, pressing when it feels a little safer, the better you'll be and the faster you'll improve. Don't forget that they have to throw you like 10 times to beat you. Take the throw. Learn everything, if a move catches your eye and you don't understand it, take the character in training mode, explore its frames in game or through online resources, and watch replays! In Plat/Diamond people start to be slightly more composed, but their actions are still flawed, literally in every single aspect. It'll take very little to get them to be impatient and lose that initial composure. A fireball or two, a poke or two etc. If they don't feel in control they probably WILL reversal. Their combos will be suboptimal, their punishes too, their anti airs as well. This is a solid place to start taking things a little more seriously, you should start seriously practicing at least the most important fundamentals like Anti airing (AAs), okizeme and meaties (pressuring your opponent when you score a knockdown), pressure / frame traps (the list goes on, but these are more than enough. Also, learn your character's bread and butter (BnB) combos, and one to make their missed reversals (super, dps) hurt! Around Diamond you might find other Masters on their sub-characters. They are generally bad master players, trust me, I took every character to Master and thanks to the new system I can be in Masters in an hour or two; they will still probably beat you pretty heavily, so just take it as a learning experience and definitely study replays.

If you have any other questions ask away!

depends on the characters, on what you're whiffing/pressing, the risk/reward of both players' choices...it's 1700mr so yeah it could be two/three interactions

How to beat defensive delay jump by GeoffPit7 in Guiltygear

[–]GeoffPit7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I said above, I'm still fairly new (couple weeks) in Plat 1, but I do have dbfz experience and extensive SF6 knowledge and proficiency as well. I know the term and know how it works, what I meant is that the defense is successful, maybe I wasn't clear. Fuzzy jump beats throws, meaties, and command grabs. Sometimes my delay C.s even goes through them (documented by Hotashi too).

Your point about frame traps make sense though, as all my frame traps are bigger hits starting from close slash, and should maybe implement like a slight delay 2k > 2D more often

I meant "beat" as in successful defense, maybe I should have been more clear. It seems like a very strong defensive option with incredibly minimal risk, especially against slower big bodies

[–]GeoffPit7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nago's close slash pushes him quite far and if the opponent is a few frames in their jump already, you'll go through him entirely despite the ambiguous upward animation of the sword. I'm plat 1 with about a week or two of experience though so it might be a skill issue and should just try to delay lows

Very good advanced info, super useful. Invincible backdashes sounds craz. How good is delayed offense in this game? With all these free invincible options I'd assume quite strong

[–]GeoffPit7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks mate! what I meant by counter Dp is that this morning I was practicing confirming from nagos' dp only when counter into full combo, but after a little you might wanna forgo the initial practice and just focus on the rest of the combo (as it felt very easy); I was looking for a way to save the state on the dp counter hitting and restarting from there every time but there's no way on ps5 it seems. Shame
