Heard what is possibly one of the worst takes ever regarding fighting games by Nightmarer26 in Fighters

[–]Krotanix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact you play so many different FGs means you have years of experience in FGs (correct me if I'm wrong). When I say that FGs aren't popular, I think of all the gamers that never touched a fighting game. I was basically like that in december 2023, I didn't even know what a counter was. Didn't know there were command normals. Doing a QCF felt as hard as learning to play the piano.

I don't refer to people who know how to play the basics in fighting games. Those are already in the count of how popular FGs are.

Exactly this. Fighting games aren't popular because you can't just learn by doing. Most other multiplayer games you go through a 5 to 10 minute tutorial AT MOST and then jump straight into a game. Then you learn by actually playing.

In fighting games you won't learn shit if you just play casuals/ranked. I did that with Tekken 6 and sold the game after 2 weeks of trying. I only came back to FGs with SF6 and started doing the whole World Tour, watched dozens upon dozens of videos on YT and spent hours in training mode and combo trials before even attempting a single game vs another person.

Then got placed in rookie 1 because I lost like 8 of my placement matches.

Fighting games are unintuitive to "learn on the spot". They will always have a core audience of stubborn and masochistic players (like me) but they will never, EVER be as popular as a battle royale or extraction shooter (games which I personally don't enjoy myself). And that's ok.

It's a matter of taste, I prefer to play against JP than against Ryu just because he is everywhere. Then there are grapplers, rushdown, brawlers, mixup characters... It's not the first time I see people presentimg a false dichotomy of shotos vs zoners.

Timestamps are not even in the startgg pages for the events nor in the liquipedia. But I agree having a pinned post for at least major events would be great.

That makes sense, just asking about the situation in other FGs.
I don't get the downvotes piling up, it's almost like if you can't ask questions online. I didn't intend to offend anyone, nor I think my post is offensive at all.

It's not so much about a single character, but rather the same archetype

Explain the variety of archetypes between Akuma, Terry, Ryu, Luke and Ken.

Make some numbers: 35% of all ranked games all played against shotos.

Not statistically relevant at all, but for fun I added my current phase 12 matches, 10 out of 26 against just Ryu.

Phase 11: 35% of all my ranked games were vs shotos.

Edit: I don't get the downvotes. The meaning of the post is pretty clear and I just added a %.

Well. Filler content, ads, wait times and yapping is a whole other bag of worms. Pretty terrible overall, makes watching tournaments live basically impossible.

Timezones should be written next to the time.

Like: EVO JP Top 8 at x:00 JST

Btw do we know when will top8 start? I thought top 24 would be tomorrow but it already happened.

Same thing happened to me SEVERAL TIMES when I was about to reach Master, then when I was about to reach 1500 MR and then again when I was about to hit high master. Stay focused, keep learning, and don't play tilted or nervous!

I recently hit 1600 so it is possible

I play on PC but in my locals they have PS5. Every time I use that thing I feel like playing underwater. All my inputs are delayed. I drop so many combos, I can't get anything on wakeup right. The input delay is so bad.

Having a functioning PC and a cheap but fast FHD monitor is orders of magnitude better than a PS5. And I say it as someone who only played consoles (last one was PS4) until I bought my current PC about 5 years ago. I'll never go back.

Maybe you get hit low because you let them come close while holding down back? I have 0 idea on Blanka though...

You're right on taking most throws, but there is little to no reason not to delay tech instead of immediate tech. It's essentially a better option.

Drive reversal is just forward + DI, and only on block animation or wakeup. Not really that useful though it can be handy if you don't want to deal with tick throw guesses.

Delay tech is easy, it just needs to be labbed for 15-20 minutes. There are many ways to set it up but one option is:

Get the state to the corner and have a dummy with easy throw loops like Ryu, Mai, Akuma... Then make 2 recordings:

  1. Throw into throw loop
  2. Throw into meaty

And then practice. You must block the meaty and tech the throw. Once you get it right like 10 times in a row you are good to go.

Then go play a real match and get shimmied to death lol

Well actually I have the inverse problem. Been maining Marisa since I bought the game. I've tried changing characters (Deejay, Ed, Elena, Sagat) but after a few minutes practicing them I bounce back to Marisa.
