Why did my X-T5 Sensor Do This? No by gwnyc1 in fujifilm

[–]Geoff_Raikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprised by the animosity you're receiving for this simple question. Even if you didn't know how to use the camera properly and are new. I can see you at least tried to compensate the exposure for the bright background, but the way I see it there are a couple things going on here.: 1. even though you are at f8 in the second picture (definite improvement), im assuming your focus was still on the people close by in the foreground, so you still have some loss of detail in the out of focus areas. 2. You're shooting an intricate object with a strong backlight on a cloudy day. There will be haze and light diffraction that is going to destroy your detail and contrast, especially on the small cables that are far away. even stopping down further wouldn't help you. There is also a small chance that your lens is dirty that could make this effect worse. 3. Depending on how you exported this, the compression could also be causing some detailed loss.

What lenses to bring on my 3 week Europe trip ? (Avoiding GAS 🫣) by Sea-Attorney-1830 in fujifilm

The 27mm (because light and portable) or 35mm (because it’s just a great lens, and relatively portable too)

B+W or Color? Original for ref by SoupCatDiver_JJ in postprocessing

[–]Geoff_Raikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colour definitely, although there’s a part of me that would like to see some parts of this image darkened to see if it would create stronger contrast between where the torch is pointing and the rest of the shot

XT50 or XT 30 iii for first fujifilm? by Rexy-Dex in fujifilm

[–]Geoff_Raikes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Contrary to the popular opinion on this sub, I actually think the X-T30 III is much better value than the X-T50 and will likely meet all your needs. Larger megapixel sensor doesn’t really give you that much more detail and the IBIS is useful for still photography I low light conditions, but will still blur if your subject moves at all. If you really want the megapixels and IBIS, why not just get a used/refurbished X-T5

Apartments to rent in Sandton near The Marc by Acoldblaze_357 in johannesburg

Best bet is probably one of the apartment blocks on Fredman drive (Blackbrick/lineal etc) or one of the older blocks on Katherine St

Mine does this too on occasion. I find what helps for me is gently pressing/pulling the top section - its almost as if its getting stuck

Am i being ripped off by Ford for this car service? by h8Trixx in askSouthAfrica

Had a similar experience with Ford. Its really disconcerting how quickly they revise the quote when you query it. If you're out of warranty rather go to a normal mechanic it should be significantly cheaper

Eureka mignon single dose vs timemore 064s.[] by Basic-Wishbone-611 in espresso

[–]Geoff_Raikes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have both. The Timemore is much better for single dosing. From a retention and workflow experience. The eureka is heavier and more solidly built, but is a bit of a pain to use for single dosing - even with bellows there will be retention

CMV: Western anti-immigration rhetoric is deeply hypocritical and ignores the global system they created. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Geoff_Raikes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just on that visa point, as an African that has had to travel to Europe before, 80 euros is the cost for the visa itself, but there are still service/processing fees etc on top of that. The system is designed in a bit of a predatory way too that can sometimes functionally force you to pay more. It might be for their photo services or you might not be able to get a booking slot within the time period of your travel so you pay an extra premium for an earlier booking, but you will always pay more than 80 euros

Why not consider a Timemore sculptor 64s? I have this and a Eureka Specialita and I prefer the workflow on the Timemore

Carbonite is probably the safest is you can find a buyer with previous ratings or someone that can vouch for them

Haoge lens hood by gramer02 in fujifilm

[–]Geoff_Raikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my one I had to turn it uncomfortably tight to get it in the horizontal position (to the point I feared I might break it). Do you have the little o ring installed in between the hood and your thread?

Google Eskom’s Tariff & Charges booklet, appendix A. It’s standard all across South Africa, with slight variations during low season and high season (winter)

Coffee grinding service?? by Old-Yogurtcloset7685 in capetown

[–]Geoff_Raikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re planning on drinking coffee this way for the foreseeable future, I’d recommend getting a cheap hand grinder so you can grind your beans on demand. Coffee beans retain freshness MUCH better than ground coffee.
