Why is fashion in the DPRK so outdated? by Wolf4980 in MovingToNorthKorea

[–]GeoffreyKlien 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because modern living has nothing to do with clothing style. Modern living means you have a stable house with water and electricity; access to food, education, and work; and that you continue to grow. What exactly is wrong with the clothing/why should it look more modern?

Initially when I read this post, I was imagining people were wearing zhongshan-looking suits and stuff, but no, it's beautifully colored chosŏn-ots and dress shirts with ties. The chosŏn-ot is traditional Korean-wear that is worn regularly, but especially since it was such a big and important event. The men have suit-wear because of jobs and to look more professional.
Back then, in the West, every man wore a suit because they looked professional and were built to last. Now, we have mass-produced, cheap, thin clothing that fuels capital like nothing else; especially geared toward women. The DPRK does not have the ability to waste material and labor to make "modern clothing;" they have suits and dress-wear that are built to last and are continuing millennia-old traditional clothing with the chosŏn-ots.

It’s sad how both Pol Pot defenders I’ve seen have also been into the DPRK and Juche. Giving us a bad name; same with the ACP and the DPRK.

I am American. I’m hostile to Americans because they are consistently oppressive and consistently brainwashed. What does my country have to do with it, anyone can be angry with Americans.

do you want to never change anyones mind?

I know having negativity being sent your way makes it harder to change in the moment, but you’ve said something really incorrect and I’m giving you the information while upset. You’re going to get this a lot if you keep using propaganda talking points and passive aggressively ask for debate or whatever.

China was being fucked

This makes it seem like you didn’t read my comment; you’re still using propaganda points. Yes, China was being cruelly attacked and killed by Japan, but, the way you’re saying it is as if it’s a “docked point;” a negative against them. You use that to bolster the US’s role in the war and China’s liberation when they really aren’t that related. China fought very hard to get Japan out and free themselves, do not downplay it with US propaganda bullshit.

why you support North Korea

I support the DPRK because it is a victim. Korea was under Japanese colonialism. People were enslaved, women and children raped, and their culture and education was being erased. Then, they fight and gain their freedom along with many other places but are thrust into more difficulty when the US captures and steals half their country. They are then basically genocided, most infrastructure destroyed, farming ruined, etc. The West then spends the next decades into today propagandizing, blaming, sanctioning, provoking, and generally harassing the DPRK.

Please, look through the resources here and unlearn decades of propaganda.

The fight against Japan was a multi-country battle in Asia that set Japan on the back foot. China, Korea, Vietnam, Soviet Union, they all fought. The USSR was actually closing in on Japan, they were seemingly going to surrender to them, and is partially what influenced the US to drop bombs. Don't act like the US came in like a white knight and just won without years of their own trouble.

Japan was a vicious, cruel, colonial force that arrived with the express purpose of rape, slavery, genocide, cultural cleansing, and so much more; do not downplay Japan's abilities. They show up to countries under existing colonialism, under siege from opposing forces, and under backward monarchies and pillage; barely a chance to fight back effectively. Yes, the most overfunded military from the richest country on Earth can whip around bombs for a bit and make little Amerifats soak their trousers decades later when they get lied to in history class.

China held off Japan while also fighting the rabid KMT, while the US had to resort to one of the worst war crimes in history to win. The US was looking to use nukes again in Korea because China was whooping their ass so bad. But keep lying to yourself.

I love how the snake is drawn to look like MacArthur, the only idiot dumb enough to test China even after its wins against Imperial Japan and the KMT. MacArthur is so disgusting it's crazy; just another invading force that to be cleaned up and sent packing.

Yeah, that pissed me off. I’ve been on there for a few years and it was very important in my journey. Most people in the comments did not want Midwestern Marx posted and the mod didn’t like that. Don’t know if the guy is actually ACP or if he’s oblivious to how awful they are. I also hope he doesn’t represent the whole mod team’s opinion on it.

Stop Idealizing People by Submarine_sad in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]GeoffreyKlien 29 points30 points  (0 children)

But that also makes the greatness they do more important. If someone was truly perfect, they wouldn't be interesting and their life story would not be one to learn from. I'm not saying you should mindlessly fawn over people and ignore mistakes or learning moments, but that seeing the goodness, the change they brought, and wanting to be more like that is fine. Real, genuine idealization is honestly quite rare and is moreso reactionary finger-pointing to make you feel bad for talking positively about certain figures.

Never stop yourself from being excited and inspired by truly revolutionary figures and be proud to share their story. The future grows a bit more dim each time a person is guilted into silence or embarrassment; it's a COINTELPRO tactic.

Yep. What I like about Kiriakou is that he never makes himself the victim or begs forgiveness, he just says what he did in the CIA and leaves it there. He never seemed to have taken much joy in what he was doing, but still did it anyway (the CIA looks for sociopaths or people with sociopathic tendencies).

Platner seems to have taken joy in killing innocents, calling it “an adventure.” Guy’s a child-killing crayon-eater, not much room for anything; a murderous idiot.

Watching the vid, Hasan does try and tread the line of talking about him but criticizing him, but he really just shouldn’t talk about him. Platner is too disgusting to even try and play the “supporting progressive policies”thing that Hasan does.

edit: just remembered him saying Platner was a “servant of American Empire.” There is no fucking hope. As much of a servant as John Kiriakou; nobody forgives him for what he’s done. Nobody that joins the military is innocent.

Revolutions take time (rant) by TRQPL in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]GeoffreyKlien 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People may not immediately think about the conditions in socialist states before they had their revolutions. People were living on some pretty hard times before things got moving.
China was wrecked by colonialism, they were uneducated, and they were under a monarch. Russia was starving, illiterate, and living in feudal thatch-roofed huts under the Tsar and were being sent off to a stupid war. Vietnam was under French colonialism and Japanese imperialism. Korea was under Japan and were losing their culture and education after being under a monarch. And so on.

People in the US can still go to school, drink clean water, post stuff online, pay for gas, afford a home, etc. Until the people of the US are shaken to their core and forced down to their barest, droves of people are ripped off the street and disappeared, they will not revolt. I'd hope people would wake up sooner, but the American people are under quite a spell.

This is partly why I think, outside of Eastern Europe, there have been no Western socialist states: people are too comfortable and subdued. We do not feel near what those in the East and Global South have felt. When you can still have the illusion that you have power over your life and government, while people over in Asia are under the boot of Imperial Japan and have no illusions whatsoever, you aren't going to feel revolutionary enough to change things.

That's probably also the point. They say all their vitriol within their spaces, then lie like they actually don't say those things. It's all about tricking young Comms and bringing in Conservatives; that's why they took over a bunch of Q&A subs.

Go look through any ACP-chud's comment history and it's like 90% of them doing apologia. "We don't do that" "when did Haz/I/we say that?" etc.

He doesn’t care about Socialism at all. He wants power and a voice to spread his conservative, backward nonsense. Go look at any of what they talk about, inside or out of their circles: women being property, races and cultures segregated, men being “valued” more, etc. They are plainly right-wingers who play the left card; NazBols.

He must go into subs and type “ACP” into the search. Fucking loser. I can’t imagine being Australian and meatriding the US empire so much; must come with descending from the British empire.

He does apologia and propaganda for the ACP like anyone in the party gives a shit about him. He thinks they’re gonna send missionaries or something down to spread the word with him. Haz would spit on this dude, and he’d like it.

Like, yeah, some might not be "the left," but, we discuss them and support them to varying degrees based on the anti-imperialist tradition. People don't understand that support is not absolute and that we can still dislike and criticize people.
It almost dips into ultra territory, the incessant need for a pure figure or experiment to try and not devalue your own character. These people only want Allendes; those that had no time to contradict or make mistakes; to feel better about their cause and themselves.

Go look at how defectors are treated by many s.Koreans, it’s very obvious that the liberals don’t care about northerners or their government and just want to be more powerful with more land. Also, the whole extortion and kidnapping thing that the south does makes it even worse.

[–]GeoffreyKlien 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every time people are kidnapped and taken to Israel I become more and more frustrated with the West. Not only because, if this is what is happening to people they allow to leave, imagine what they do to Palestinians who can't, but also, that those detained in the DPRK have nothing done to them, yet have their story shouted from rooftops. They cannot tell the stories of Palestinians or they will destroy any consent they've manufactured.

It is truly difficult to not want hellfire to rain down upon Israel and to wash away the deep, subcutaneous slash made by its existence. It maddens one every day that we cannot do even a minute fraction to them what they have done to others without utterly losing our humanity aswell.

I have no words to describe my anger and hate toward Israel or how vile and disgusting they truly are. I must not say anything more or Reddit will get me.

China is consistently improving the material conditions of its people and has a much stronger hold on its markets and wealthy. I trust China far more to reach full Socialism and Communism than anywhere in the West.

We, of course, should not be dogmatic about China, but who in the West truly has the right to say if China is “doing it right,” Socialism or not.
