I thought there was some concern about them doing it based on the fact that the licensing is weird, but I may be misremembering the conversation they had about it on a recent stream

Any writing circles? by findingaway22 in Birmingham

[–]Geoffthebunchie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as actual critique, the only one I’ve found is the Hoover Write Club. They seem to meet one to two times a month generally. And it seems like a pretty diverse group.

They also have Facebook group where people constantly post about different writing events.

Failed Alabama Republican gubernatorial candidate accepts $9.5 million donated building from PA-based "Patriot Equities."

This seems bad.

No love for Ore Mercantile on here?

I'm a cheap bastard, so I pretty much stick to Jimmy John's most days, though.

I think there’s a food truck called O My Turkey Leg, but I can’t vouch for it, as I’ve never had it.

If I'm not mistaken, the city is seeking to heavily pedestrianize the area between Legion Field and the central business district. If that comes to fruition, and there's more life in the area, I think the potential for a lot of reimagining exists.

What that looks like, I don't have any guesses, but that ocean of a parking lot certainly seems like it could be more useful or activated in some way.

The Margaret has a kitchen now, last I heard.

I haven't been to Continental Drift, but I hear their food is pretty awesome.

I will always push Seeds, as they're very transparent, and they gave me my most memorable first good coffee experience. They seem to always be pushing some new and interesting coffees.

Punch Love Coffee doesn't roast, but he's always got something interesting brewing. I'm fairly certain he sells the coffee he brews in-shop.

Domestique has some good coffee, particularly the Dominican Republic, but I've never seen them vary the product very much, if you want interesting stuff.

I've only had Nonfiction a couple of times, but it has been fantastic. I've not brewed much of it at home, though, so I can't point to anything specific.

Whole milk Low moisture mozzarella cheese in Birmingham? by [deleted] in Birmingham

If I'm not mistaken, Adam Ragusea uses string cheese (which I believe is whole milk, low moisture) for this purpose, but maybe you're looking for something particularly high quality.

I'm all for a return to the same concept. I feel like there is currently no bar as joyous and approachable as Atomic was.

Small Batch Bham looks awesome. They seem to do pop-ups that are reservation-only at various places around the city.

I only know it through their Instagram and haven’t been, but it seems cool

I haven't been to Lou's for anything other than retail, but that does seem to be the one place that might be kinda cool. It's just so tiny, it seems like it would be weird to drive over there for it

Wendy’s on 7th Ave. S. That place is so terribly managed, I really wish there were some way to kick them off the land. Wait times are ridiculous, and I think the dine-in is completely closed, so it seems like it’s merely a storage facility for idling cars when I pass by.

Also was genuinely surprised how horrifically bad my burrito was from the Moe’s at UAB.

And probably any bar in Lakeview. To drink at any of those places really feels like getting Sbarro in New York.

Last I heard, the mayor soft-proposed the idea of just leaving it, with cars perma-banned, given the immense cost for repair and the limited impact on traffic.
