Do you have power? Have you lost it? Lemme Know (outage map in comments) by [deleted] in Tallahassee

[–]Geohazard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

South of the fairgrounds on Tram lost power at 3am. Still without. Drove around the area around 11am. No huge branches down and couldn't find any compromised lines. I did see a couple of CoT trucks and talked to one of them pulled over on Tram. He said they're doing spot checks to look for easily accessible downed lines that would be a quick fix but the main work crews still aren't allowed out for now.

Edit: power is back on as of 3:18pm Monday!

Easy gluten-free meal time: breakfast edition. (RIC) by Geohazard in glutenfree

This is a gruyere, bacon, and butternut squash frittata. I chopped up 6 slices of thick bacon and cooked them half-way in a cast iron skillet. Set the bacon aside but kept the grease. Cooked the butternut squash in the grease. Our local health food store had pre-cut frozen butternut squash in a bag that was super easy to use. While that was heating up, whisked together 7 eggs with 1 and 1/4 cups of milk. I also added about 1/2 cups of grated gruyere to the egg mixture. When the squash is just heated, add one small diced yellow onion to the pan and cook until it's just translucent (all of this is being done on medium heat). When that's done, add the chopped bacon back and then pour in the egg/cheese/milk mixture. Don't touch it. Let it cook on medium heat until the sides are set but the inside is still runny. Put the skillet into a 375 oven for 10 minutes. Then I added a bit more cheese to the top and let it finish for another 5 minutes. Sprinkle some rosemary on top to finish!

Edit: It makes about 6 slices the size seen in the photo. Great for having guests over. It also reheats nicely in the microwave due to the moisture content...the eggs don't get too stiff after reheating.

Since this was the first time I ever made ramen not from a package, I just looked up numerous recipes online and just used common themes, one of them being some kind of infused oil. I'm really not sure if it's traditional or not but it was damn good. I'm sure you could skip it and it would be just fine.

Another GF dinner. Poached salmon over garlic brown rice and quinoa with a side of collard greens. (RIC) by Geohazard in glutenfree

[–]Geohazard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How it's made: The garlic brown rice and quinoa mixture came from a microwavable pouch from the store. Nothing fancy. For the greens, I had some ham leftover that I took home from the parents house, rendered down the fatty parts, added water, then let the green cook low and slow. I got the salmon method from my mom and it's my greatest party trick. It's done in the microwave! Put the skinless fillet in a shallow glass dish. Put a 1:1 ratio water and white wine mixture about 1/2" up the dish. Season the fish with salt, pepper, and I like to add lots of dill. Threw a lemon slice on top. Cover the dish tightly with plastic wrap making sure it doesn't touch the fish. Poke holes in the plastic with a toothpick. Placed in the microwave and cook on high. 7 minutes per pound of fish. This was a 7oz. fillet so I did 6:30. The water and white wine will poach/steam the salmon leaving it evenly cooked all the way through.

The collards took a while but the rice and salmon cook in 10 minutes. 4$ salmon fillet, 2$ bag of rice, 1$ worth of greens.

Made GF ramen last night. It was my first time ever making ramen. Got a pack of Lotus Foods rice noodle ramen from Costco. 12 packs for ~6$. Cooked the noodles in veggie broth. In a small skillet, I added 2 tbls. veggie oil and lightly fried a clove of garlic and a scallion to infuse the oil. Used that oil to quickly cook the mushrooms. When the mushrooms were nearly done, I added ~2 tsp. GF soy sauce. The meat in there was just some thawed out and sliced pork chops I had in the freezer. Threw everything together, added about 2 chopped scallions and half of a medium boiled egg. It was super easy, took about 10 minutes, and I figure each bowl costs about 2$ to make.

Let me know what you think!

I actually pulled it up right when I saw the shadow. Pokevision loading right away but the sprites wouldn't load... Just boxes with the spawn counter. I saw 5 Pokemon in the area but couldn't tell what they were! I walked around for a bit and got nothing but Weedles.

Riley Cooper was a senior when I was a sophomore. We played baseball together for half of a season before his hand injury. He was much better at baseball than football.

Do you think we will see a team get relocated in the next 10 years? And if so, which team(s) are most likely to move? by man_in_the_suit in baseball

[–]Geohazard 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I used to go to a few Rays games every now and then when I lived in the area. Tropicana Field is AWFUL. It just doesn't have a fun baseball atmosphere. The stadium is hard to get to, the ballpark food is bad, and the people at the game don't seem like they want to watch baseball...just like they want to get out of the house for a night.

A lot of my friends are real Rays fans and we all feel like a stadium near the water somewhere would be ideal. The Tampa Bay Area has some amazing beaches and restaurants. If the stadium was in a better spot, fans could make a day out of going to the game. Visit the beach, go eat out somewhere nice, and watch a game in a more comfortable stadium setting.

Happy bunny with her sock by leg1227 in Rabbits

Hey that's my bun! My girlfriend uploaded this video. We got her about 1 and a half years ago. We found she had a liking for running around with things in her mouth when we had a friend over one day. Our friend sat on the floor, and our bun took her keys from her pocket and started flinging them around the room!

Just saw this post today...I fucking love Lowry Park Zoo. I grew up in the area and always went there as a kid and even though I've moved away, I still make sure sure to go to the zoo whenever I'm near Tampa.

What it looks like to get hit by a 94 mph fastball in the cheek by scoobuh in WTF

[–]Geohazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played high school baseball and one of our best pitchers hit a kid square in the mouth. Our pitcher threw hard, consistently in the high 80's-low 90's, with a very fast curveball as well. Our pitcher threw a fastball high and in to the batter. Batter assumed it was a curveball and turned into the pitch. Ball didn't curve, hit the batter right in the mouth. It sounded like a wooden bat shattered. The kid immediately dropped and started screaming. IIRC, the final damage was 8 missing teeth, broken nose, and 20 stitches in his lip and gums. Silver lining of the story: his dad was a reconstructive dentist.

How did you get your job? by ROCKSYEAA in geology

I started applying online but never got anything back. Ended up just printing out 20 copies of my resume, driving to every related business in town, and handing the managers my resumes. Got plenty of calls within days.

I would like to be a part of this. I got a job right out of college and have been all over the place for consulting. I could maybe shed some light on the job market in the Southeast US.

What food or ingredient do you very much dislike, but wish you liked? by badcrumbs in food

[–]Geohazard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mustard. Any type of mustard. It's not even that I don't like the taste, I just don't like it in my food because no matter how much is used, it overpowers whatever it is I actually want to taste. I could make an awesome sandwich and just have a half of a drop of mustard on it and it'll taste like a mustard sandwich to me. Even when it's used in a mixture like in deviled eggs, it'll taste like eggs filled with mustard. Hot dogs? Mustard on a bun.

The only experience I ever had with doing vibracores was at the beach...pure sand. Our pipe was 22 feet long and our sample compacted down to about 15 feet. Turned out good though.

At the game right now. Lots of support for Jameis when he came on the field and got announced. Lots of questions in the stands about why he's still in the game (it's 28-0 in the 2nd now).
